  1. Like the vid, it's a good promotion of your services. Continuing on the "not a downers", I normally raise the log at that stage, stopping all the time to move sawdust causes notches. The other thing is that you may be better of installing a remote throttle (I use an rubberised clamp but its not the safest...) as you seem to be leaning on your powerhead which lifts up the mill as in this screenshot. If you've a remote throttle you can apply pressure right where it's needed.
  2. Thanks, a bunch! I'm hundreds of miles away from my wife and there's nobody else here to test that theory.
  3. Our Martha decided she wanted to be a vegetarian when she'd just turned three. The same day at dinner time she was tucking in to sausages, when asked where she thought they came from she said: "from pigs of course!" "But you're a vegetarian now doesn't that clash?" "No, we only get the sausages the pigs lay extra, just like our hens' eggs..."
  4. Well, I like it!
  5. Good for you! But surely that means that situations such as you've described above must be not that uncommon? And even if that's never happened before, it seems like something that was bound to happen at some stage? Maybe just sit down with mr Abramovich when he's back for a bit and explain that without clear "orders" this is a possible outcome. Or... If you're happy with the way things are running apart from this, just forget about it and stop moaning (I genuinely mean that in the nicest possible way, but after a long day shearing sheep and a few pints cleverer than average I lack the eloquence to put it any better).
  6. So the you just do as you see fit? Free reign over what you reckon needs doing and he'll just pay up?
  7. Sounds to me like you went and did a job that you thought needed doing. Also sounds like you didn't consult the owner? In which case I'd say his/her displeasure is entirely justifiable.
  8. If you don't know how much 22tonnes is, why do you want to sell 22 tonnes? Would you not be better of on agreeing a volume, then there's less reason for doubt?
  9. Yeah, totally Tony! Or perhaps the man can have a favourite tree for a reason different to what you like? Perhaps it's got fond memories attached or it just feels like a really good place, the view from there is awesome or....?
  10. Rapeseed oil? Not in my experience. And "flushing" with "ordinary chain oil" could cause a few issues. In my experience, (stihl mineral) chain oil reacts with rapeseed oil to form a rubbery gunk. Don't mix the two, ever! I've just been to the shed to look at a saw ive not used since October (a stihl ms180, notorious for its fickle oiling system...). Half full tank of fuel and oil, and the oil is liquid as a liquid thing, fired her up and it oils like it should. The only thing is the bar and chain felt a bit sticky and stiff but a quick blip or two on the throttle freed them up nicely. Why not just try it? Just make sure to run the saw dry of oil, flush it with some petrol (I'd run it for a minute or so...) then empty of petrol and fill with rape, all sorted. And when you spill any on the customers precious patio, you can just lick it off to clean it up.
  11. Nope, I've used it down to -14C and its just as liquid as now at 18C. It does not thicken at all.
  12. I would say olive, as commercial rape of ancient olive groves is very trendy at the moment.
  13. I was taught: " if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. " So here goes: Dear people at Stihl, Regards, Daniel Bos.
  14. A friend if mine made his own when he found out he had cancer. Steam bent boards in a simple flat bottomed boat sort of shape. Then he made it stand on end, put some planks across and used it as bookshelves. Luckily this was over 15 years ago and he's still reading, but it's there ready and patiently waiting.
  15. Rubbish mate, there is no such thing as a notifiable weed. As far as having to report it, rubbish too. You can grow as much of it as you like on your own land. It is an offence to plant or cause it to grow in the wild though.
  16. It used to be grown as sheep fodder in my area. There are patches of it wherever there used to be a little homestead type hovel. Living history.
  17. Congrats mate! My brother Joshua thinks you've chosen the best name. Enjoy, Daniel
  18. Got out to find a thin covering of snow early this morning!
  19. If I'm reading it right, this machine failed beyond repair after just three years of service? Is that really the machine you want to restore and say: " hey look, we make awesome kit!" ? Not trying to be a parade-pissing sort, just seems odd to me.
  20. Alec, if you ever feel like a challenge I'll race your brushcutter against my scythe... Sparrow, Simon Fairlie is the man when it comes to scythes, his website is not great but he's very helpful and probably one of the most knowledgable people in Britain scythe-wise. http://www.thescytheshop.co.uk/
  21. 'Round 'ere WD40 tends to cost a fair bit more than fuel, even more than aspen!
  22. Hollowed out chunk of Alder, filled with (alder) charcoal. (At least that's what google told me)
  23. 028/ms280 is quite a different beastie. Made for domestic use, 24/26 are pro saws with many shared parts.
  24. 024/ms240 026/ms260 are very good saws, with all parts available afaik.
  25. Please mr Limit, will you pm me your address? I'll need it when I sue you for the consequences of me not having given someone advise which could have prevented an accident...
