  1. I've been burning softwood for a while now, it's all I use at home, heats the house, bright flame, clean burn. Can't fault it, dry as you as like softwood has to have a market. Sure it burns quicker, but it's good gear.
  2. What do I think? Errr jealous!
  3. Look good dry firewood though
  4. I'd say beech
  5. Did they not tell you what the wood was when you ordered it?
  6. Ok cheers
  7. Great. I guess you mean the controls were annoying but once one handed would be quicker? is the ram speed ok? Look forward to hearing what it's like on knotty stuff
  8. Keep us posted! Very close to buying one myself
  9. How's the new splitter?
  10. Agree with aesmith, buy some kiln dried to see out the cold weather and then store your own, it's very rewarding when you burn your own seasoned firewood and the glass is clear, the dogs in front if it and your house is toasty warm. Wish I could get away with only 2 cube a year though!
  11. I would have thought right now was the perfect time to lift whips, heel them in somewhere sheltered and plant in the spring.
  12. Hi how are you finding the splitter? I’m very tempted to buy one this week just wanted to know first hand what you think? Cheers
  13. When I called Oxdale a few years ago enquiringly about their road tow the chap essentially tried to put me off buying one, saying the stand alone was less likely to be stolen. Very strange. I think the oxdale splitters get quite good reviews though
  14. There's an English walnut at the yard, juglans regia, never a walnut left on the ground, as soon as they drop, gone! reckon it would take a massive intake of laburnum, juglone, laurel etc to make an impact on health. would like to be proved wrong ?
  15. Would be very keen to know how you get on with it. Did it have a table as an option?
  16. Looks tidy, but I find the lower stores a right pain to load!
  17. What did you go for in the end? Still keen to get any feedback as I'm still undecided myself.
  18. Used Colliers on a job last year, waste away, approx 200 tonnes of soil. They were brilliant. Lorries were waiting on the job at 7. Highly recommended.
  19. Hi, interested in pictures and prices please, thanks
  20. Don't take your eye of a hycrack or any screw splitter for one second. They can flip a wet heavy oak ring faster than you thing possible.
  21. Rest is the key. I was told to take ibrufofen for the rest of my days, but after approx 3 months the pain resided and now touch wood it's not too bad.
  22. I pile the logs in a barn in a huge pile but chuck pallets in as spacers every 3ft or so. Sides are all open and the wood dries very well
