  1. I bet the stove manufacturer will tell you you're running the stove too hot, this can sometimes be the case but baffle plates are notoriously flimsy nowadays.
  2. Looks like we all love our dogs, mine comes to work every day and loves the fire, eats, drinks and crashes out by stove. Takes about 5 minutes and she's dreaming, twitching and kicking away.
  3. that cat must be cooking!!
  4. I can hardly get near the damn thing to put another log on, but the flippen dog hadn't moved in about an hour. Hot face! How do they cope???
  5. Sounds like Concorde is in your liner!
  6. Hi, got any pictures of your kiln? Would be very interested to see your setup. Thanks
  7. It's definitely classed as a conny
  8. Do you mean Taxus?
  9. A pal of mine just sent me this. Reckons a lot of folk in New Zealand make a living out of selling softwood. I quite like the trailer....
  10. It's all down to storage. You deliver dry firewood, now it's down to the customer. So often they go into an almost air tight container where the remaining moisture just hangs. The idea of an info card is great, cheap, factual, covers your arse. Go for it. Moisture test a few in front of the customer, info card, paid and go.
  11. A little knowledge is very dangerous! Its very annoying. In my opinion it's all caused at the source, which I'm afraid to say is the stove sellers! Some know what they are talking about when it comes to burning timber, but to say softwood is dangerous to burn is ludicrous.
  12. I've got the Balfour saw bench. It's brilliant, don't bother with a chainsaw unless the bits are too big. Wish I'd gone for the conveyer as well!
  13. Agreed, an excellent firewood. Takes a bit to season but hard as nails when dry.
  14. I find that some softwoods like yew and cedar last nearly as long as hardwoods. It's all about stove control as well.
  15. Just got a text saying he'd like the mixed wood. Must have looked online and realised he was misinformed!
  16. Is that petrol driven?
  17. Was a lovely pile. Hardly surprising that went so quickly. They might expect you do ring all their wood from now on.,
  18. That's going to cause a crash!
  19. Makes you laugh doesn't it. You pick up the log, and nano seconds later you're burning it to death. Doesn't look right, my god whatever next
  20. Had a customer call yesterday. I'd already sold them some hardwood earlier in the season and they were ringing for more. I told him I only had mixed wood for sale, bone dry, lovely firewood. He actually said " my stove doesn't burn softwood" . I wanted to tell him to read this thread. It's going to be hard work to convince a lot of people. Starting with the installers who must have told him his stove mustn't burn softwood. I didn't get the sale. Some you win some you lose
  21. So the general opinion is yes, softwood when dried like any other firewood for sale, is perfectly acceptable. Only downside is it burns quicker, so give the customer a few more, charge the same but load em up!
  22. Any unseasoned wood will line the flu with tar.
  23. Makes me laugh, I use those facts all the time and it's as if I'm talking a different language!
  24. Mind you it's a Burley stove
  25. It's all down to perception. I've just had to move my swivel arm chair away from the fire cos it's too damn hot. Bloody conifer...
