As said above its bassicaly ok till something goes wrong and someone gets hurt and then someone will be in the shit,, one thing i will add is if you do go for the training and tickets do a ticket for a tracked chipper as that will cover every other chipper, if you did a ticket for a tow behind chipper it wont cover the tracked chipper, i know its a bit arsey but its not long since some lads up here where chucked of a railway job for using a hired in tracked chipper and only having the tow behind certificates,,

speak to rototec at shefield they would probably make you some if they didnt have em,, have a look on there website as last time i looked it did give you dimensions on there,,,

Yes maybe and guess what he wont be coming on any of out sites again , but most training lads i know are all the same and they teach there candidates to cut as low as possible in relation to what you said, wasted product,, when i was extracting the timber it was saw logs on out side up against bolsters and then i was hand balling short lengths in to middle of trailer, i think i asked this trainer if the EEC had changed the laws on bending down, hence i got a funny look of him,,

I all ways thought you had to take Es to listen to it, it never did owt for me either,,

There is a few things to think about here,, 1,, i would think you would need a felling licence in place first,, 2,,i would make sure that who ever goes in to your woodland, fully understands the process of thinning and what you want done, as i could just see it virtually ending up ruined ??, 3,,several years ago i let a trainer who provided training for a local council on to one of our sites, it was explained very clearly what was required and TBH it was a right shambles of a job, saw logs cut at 3.5,3.6,3.7& 3.8, stumps left 2ft high, timber lead at all angles, this probably cost me 2 extra days when extracting the timber, on off tractor measuring logs cutting logs etc 4,, what is happening to your timber ? will it be left in nature piles or will it be extracted, there is a bit to think about when letting some one who is young and keen with a chainsaw loose in your woodland, personally i would be there suppervising and labouring myself,,

First ones where at the yard 3 wk ago and only 3 of them and seen em every day, then last Saturday there was 5 and now there is about 20 of em, The pinkfooted geese have only just left this last wk and to think 8/10 days ago there was 10 - 12,000 feeding away 2 field,s behind my yard, geese are usualy nearly all gone by late march, then only so first brood of ducks about 10 days ago and thats late,,

yes i know how it works as spend half my life either in a auction or on a online auction, yes we do get some bargains and yes some items make much more than i am prepared to pay,, The point i was trying to make was that the big Co,s are willing, or was willing,, to pay over the odds to may be ensure a steady supply of timber into there yards,, i cant really comment on todays FC auctions but as in my original post i was stating what my past experience was,,

I tried this about 8/9 year ago, back then it would tell you winning bid price per tonne once auction had finished, and yes you guessed it the winning bid was all ways 50p 75p or a £1 a tonne more than i bid, i would sit there and look where the location of the timber was from me then work out haulage costs and come up with a final price per tonne, I never won a auction and last one i bid on i put a bid in at £5 a tonne over average cost and still got out bid, personally i think some of the big biomass co,s have it sawn up but you can all ways try, A harvesting co have done a smallish job (400 tonne) near me consisting of ash oak,beech sycamore birch etc all good processor sized firewood and its gone for chip at £42 a tonne, i would of gladly given £60 a tonne for it and as a firewood producer this is what we are up against,,

How many tonne of timber will the 4 of you get down in a day ?? the 1000 to 1200 sounds a bit o the steep side ??

TBH i would just pay a bit extra and buy a tipping trailer, i have had several trailers over the years and the one i have now a 10ft IW tipper saves so much time and effort, there is days when i think i could do with a bigger trailer but do manage very well with what i have, if you buy a tipper now you wont look back and be thinking i should of got a tipper, there will be times when its lashing it down and your all ready cold n wet and you think jesus i have to unload this now, tipper you just push a button and 2 mins you done,,

I have said it for many years now , that man will **************** this planet all together, and its getting nearer every day,,,,

Once towed it back to yard with pick up one day in late January when it was raining about 12 mile, kept stopping every mile or so for first 4 or 5 mile to check temp of tyres and no heat generating in em so just carried on steady away,,

there the same wheels n tyres i ended up with and TBH they have lasted well, i would go for tandem axel as apposed to single axle, it will travel better , much more stable and wont make any where near as much mess as a single axel, photos above are 1 is in its first chapter wjth the shit 6psi tyrs on it and designed to be used for behind a quad, the rest are as it is now, and one thing about building it yourself is you can build it as you want it, hope this helps you out ,,

Well from past experience i can point a few things out to you, depending on what weight you plan to carry ? bear in mind you will put more on than planed at times, personally i would forget the single wheels and go for tandem wheels set up on rocking beams, take note of the load rating on the tyres, some on ebay that are not worth bothering with as load rating is crap and they only run at 6psi, head board definatly as it will save on damage to digger, if i was to build another i would go for a ladder frame over a single spine as far more robust,, i will post some photos later on tonight and see if i can dig out what wheels n tyres i bought,,

God knows, i would of thought the Corsa would be cheap to tax but obviously not, the emissions group which each van falls in to will be stated on the V5 doc, i think the taxation class system is like a lot of other systems in this country, been messed about with to improve em until they are about ****************ed and beyond recovery, The post office tells us a lot ATM about the state we have got to with electronic systems in this country, its simple really if its not broken don,t fix it,,

Its basically based on emissions now a days, for me its time it was put back to what it was years ago when cars n small vans where all the same bigger vans a bit more then trucks went up in each weight category, i read a report last week that basically said our roads are about f - - - - -d and if nothing is done soon 80% of our road network will be virtually unusable with in 15yrs, personally i think the down fall started when taxation started to be based on emissions and not what was called a road fund licence or road tax that was in between the later 2,,

2 things i have done in years gone by that still bother me now n then are 1, 1981 a tiny hairline fracture on the ball joint on my left ankle that ended up with a pot on it for 6wks, this still bothers me now n then especially if its cold and its getting used a lot like when i am out picking up with dogs, 2,,1983 took all the skin and some flesh off my left fore finger with a lump hammer while knocking through a wall to put a soil pipe in on a barn conversion, did the usual thing on the day put a bit of bog roll round it and wrapped it with insulation tape job done, morning after it was off to doctors with a hand twice the size of normal and got it cleaned up properly and drained then back every morning for a wk to be re dressed and drained again ,this scare what,s left of it drives me mad some days especially if gloves are rubbing on it, it becomes very itchy and inflamed and occasionally it does swell up a bit and can last for several days, both these injuries are 40 plus years old but yes they still bother me a bit now n then, finger is by far the worst and very annoying,,

Been a bright sunny morning then cloud n sun and now its blowing thunder n lighting and absolutely hammering it down, as if we ain't had enough ☹️

So sorry to here this very sad ending ,i feel your pain, as you know i lost a young Lab to rat poison 10mth ago and it hurt me badly, 😒

Personally i think for a first attempt at carving, thats a 10 out of 10 from me,, i think you need to be doing a bit more of this TBH,
