  1. Ok, born off the back of a recent post.....how many people have broken a relatively healthy double braid rigging rope in the field? I'm not talking winching out the Land Rover with a Matbro bogged up to it's axles...but genuine 'relatively ' well thought out rigging scenarios that have pushed the calculations a smidge too far and resulted in a broken rigging rope *. * I repeat....a healthy double braid
  2. Hmmmm, I’ve imagined nay rigged a lot of lumps with quite a few Groundsman but never thought I was about to ‘break shit’ other than my legs if they didn’t let it run . Beech be heavy, Groundsman be dumb (mostly not) , rope be weak , but ultimately surely you work out all those variables into the risk factors .......well mostly . We all have those fingers crossed moments when all the variables are uncomputable and the job needs doing, but busting 16mm lowering rope ....I’m sorry , but you’re pushing your luck if you’re anywhere close to doing that in my opinion .
  3. That is a great bit of kit i've never ever heard of. Ordered . Thanks . So utilisable . Thanks Dazzy T
  4. woah woh woaaaaahhhhh......you broke a 16 mm double braid lowering rope?? Jesus, that takes a chunk. Have you considered knocking them out a smidge smaller ?? [emoji12]
  5. I had the same experience when I bought the carbon version some years ago. They came with those dreadful cranked over spikes installed. Swapped the spikes for euros.....so much better. Have you seen the Buckingham Gaff sharpening kit? I bought one a while back for around £25 and have found it invaluable for those odd occasions when you find you're gaffing out. It allows you to re-measure the angles of yours spikes and get them back to factory settings. I'm not in agreement that spikes don't have to be sharp personally, the sharper they are the easier the spike 'planes' into the wood fibres on the correct angle and the more secure your footing.
  6. How do you copy and forward the videos incidentally? I can only seem to copy the entire thread ? ?
  7. How is it you can use it on single line applications whereas you can't use a Zigzag on a single line?
  8. Sophora Japonica or Japanese Pagoda Tree. Worked on some in Turkey. Wood looks the same too . Weighs a bloody tonne !! Second guess would still be Varnish tree though, despite what Farmer Giles says. From my limited experience with Varnish trees, the sap tends to burn when allowed to sit under direct sunlight . It has also burnt through t shirts before now. Also has been known to cause respiratory failure of people chipping it as the sap vaporises almost .

Look at ‘Mouse Trap Monday’s’ on You Tube for a smorgasbord of various rat remodelling devices. It’ll get you riled up for pay back. I’m currently trapping our rats with fenn Mk 4’s with peanut butter . Had 4 in the last week but we’re not too overrun I don’t think.

  11. Ahhh yes, unfortunately in harder times I missed a few payments and ever since, I don’t seem to be on their Xmas card list . Now Halcyon days have returned it doesn’t seem to have stopped their computer saying ‘no’ Thank you though for the suggestion Ratters . It’s kind of you to take the time to offer a suggestion . 12. I'm sorry that this is dull but i'm struggling. I recently found out that my current insurer would only pay out the "standard Googled amount" for my recently restored 1993 130 tipper . Has anyone got any recommendations for insurers that will insure for what is on the vehicle in terms of upgrades and overall good repair and are of a good reputation? Hope you can help
  13. Haw Billhook, enviable bit of kit a 150 V8 (I've got its sister the 130).....unless its stuck guess!!! How is it though trucks know to get bogged in a) mostly at the end of the day b) when its dark c) when there's nothing to winch to ??
  14. I don’t think you’ll regret your ZZ decision. I was a stalwart user of the VT since it was first introduced to tree work (thank you Liam from Treevolution) and have tried so many different ‘alternatives’ since, but the Zigzag, whilst not perfect, gives you such a fantastic sense of reliability and 100% security compared to the oft fickle VT. PLUS, I love the fact you can push line down into it as you adjust your position when higher in the canopy . I’ve yet to find the lack of mid line attachment an issue . I’ve this lot on here to thank for my own purchase due to their recommendations plus I was lucky enough to borrow one.
  15. Sorry to see your trotter’s got mashed Mick, but I have to say, what a beautiful quarry tiled floor.....and those engraved panels .....[emoji7]
  16. You’ve spelt “wanker” wrong
  17. Is it Vespasia-anus’s local advert ?
  18. What the beejesus is that Buffzo ??? Where did you find that fine piece of merchandising ? [emoji23]? Maybe “Arial rescue” is a typo (See what I did there......)
  19. Isn’t Vespasian short for the Flavian Roman emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus ? Could we perhaps just shorten it to ‘Tit’ or ‘Anus’ ? Seems so terribly appropriate somehow .
  20. Hi Treestumptom, I also broke my back after a measly 15-20’ free fall after a pulley failure some 15 years ago and have also sought the advice of the learn’ed folk on this forum for a mechanical knot. I plumped for the Zig Zag after a) listening to their comments and b) I was lucky enough to get to try one for a few weeks. I’d say that whilst it’s not infallible, it does genuinely feel like a VT with a hitch climber on a good day but runs truer full time and the luxury of it ‘setting’ every time it’s released is a thing of reassuring beauty. Well done for getting back up there, I hope the jolty flash back demi-mares have long since abated . Gravity can be a cruel reminder of Newton’s theory when tested !!!
  21. I love your candour in showing your bloopers. I think in your defence a) you were in some pretty compromised launch positions at times (especially on that 2”(?) diameter dead looking stem second tree in and b) that contraption you are tossing looks generally born of Satan and designed to make the Pope turn the air blue. Great share/post and one I found very interesting and highly unlikely to ever want to try myself . I’m still banned from county boundaries around here from my throw bag based profanities ??
  22. I’d be interested to see how many people ever have to show their waste carriers licence who are small scale self employed concerns. Personally, I’ve been asked to show it once in 22 years at a landfill !!!! (I didn’t have it with me !!!! Oops !!)
  23. I found my Faltermeir and original throwline !!!! Hoorah. By then however I’d ordered the £12 Chinese model. It’s pretty good for the money . Unlike the super stretchy Marlow throwline which constantly pings your bag back out of the target branch due to its elasticity ?
  24. Bloody awful. The dreadful dis justice of a young man imparting the love of camping amongst the trees, only to have his life taken from him in doing so. Nature, our cruel mistress
