  1. dont stack unless they pay £20 extra... can deliver another 2 loads min in time it takes to stack a load
  2. £35-40 ton roadside
  3. pantronics for me.. the one with the microphone that curls round side of your face... gets rid of all back ground noise that way and about £60 off ebay compared with 90 in shop
  4. shame your not closaer to me!!!!
  5. +vat i'm afraid
  6. around 26 cubic metres... which i'm told by several who have processed a load that size will get you 50ish cubic metres split logs
  7. reason my customer likes that cord is he just cuts it to 900mm long with chainsaw and throws it in as is without splitting... estate where i buy lot fom have ash/alder exactly same diameter as on that load but in 3m lengths... cut in may. gonna buy 3 or 4 loads that for myself
  8. yeah... not that i want to.. 2.4's are bad enough... can load in half time at 3m
  9. have no idea tbh.. it moves around apparantly so one week its on first line then another its down a few... had 2 months trial before i signed and it worked thats all i can tell u
  10. that loads not good example to be honest. its all graded no bgger than 8inch.. few 12-14 inch lumps fill gaps nicely. just as an example that wood was cut 10 months.. 22 ton on that load.. picked exactly same timber up few weeks ago fresh felled.. over 26+ tons on..
  11. do you see any gaps on this load.... bought by the load and sold by load.. in fact he had over 15 loads like it... local brick works to fire his old fashioned kilns with.. he also had 6 loads bought by the ton and sold by the load... sme difference...???
  12. depends.. what length is cord and how many bays... 3x3.4m bays on mine is 26
  13. in 18 months that i been moving timber i've sold 4 loads by weight.. that was 3 to geoff [alycidion] and 1 to farmer ben both on here and they were fisrt 4 loads that i did.. i soon learnt this was no good for me being the haulier as well as the buyer and seller of timber... i buy some timber by the ton [ i have a staight of art weigher accurate to 50 kilos on trailer] but majority is bought by the load... and these by the load prices are always based on a 25 ton green weight... so they cut 100 ton put it in pile and theres 4 loads for me... that wood might sit there for over 6 months by which time theres no longer 100 ton, theres 93 ton.. like i've said before beech or oak will be cheaper to buy by the ton than ash, sycamore or birch.. so 99% of time ash or birch is sold by the cubic metre less air gaps or just by the load.. when ever i'm quoting someone for a "load" timber i tell them the species, how many bays on trailer and what length woods cut to.. and roughly what weight there will be.. although its never sold to them by the ton... i load every load to top of pins, and my pins are as long as you can get!! i give you an all in price for load cord delivered obviously including the haulage... now for those that might buy their cord from someone by the ton then get a price per load to haul it that fine.... but i dont put a penny on any cord i buy... i buy £1000's worth cord at time and pay up front for it just to get haulage work from it.. so i cant afford to put a good full load cord on to find its only weighing 23.75 tons which means if i'm selling by ton i'm gonna loose 1.25 tons off haulage.. now if i'm buying wood by the load for £1000 and delivering it for £1300 theres no way i can loose neary £50 off the haulage rate of £300 just because theres plenty of ash or birch on load or its been cut a while and lost moisture. it wouldnt matter to me if i was only gettin payed flat rate for haulage. another way to get over it is to base my prices on 22-23 ton of cord on load and not 26.. that way i'd no for def that there wouldnt be less than 22 ton on load unless it was pure green birch... all the cutters i deal with arent thick... far from it... they mix every bit firewood they cut with another species to make sure it weighs properly... moved 4 loads earl this week bought from guy on here... mostly ash, and could of been pure ash if desired but mixed it with small amount oak to get weight... another i buy from has lot birch mixed with alder and suprise suprise.... oak.. i'm guessing all these people who sell by the ton are putting flat haulage rate on top.. which is the only way it can be done without loosing out... i'll stick with way i do it unless someone buys there own and just wants it moved... 3 days out in lorry last sunday to tues evenin.. inc 2 nites spent in lorry.. 6 loads cord bought and sold.. 1750kms traveled.. loading in pitch black in pissing rain at 9pm so i can get off early next morning.. on road at half 4 in morning.. over £1100 in diesel in 3 days and £80 for burst pipe to earn £750day after diesel... there aint no big profits in this timber suppling game that much i can tall u...!!!
  14. ex arable farm machine is what you'd be looking for... the one we just bought has 6000 hrs on but is actually tidier to look at than our 07 plate.. and it was 2 owners from new.. last one for 18yrs just loading grain whereas ours gets used for anything and everything and it shows..
  15. how far into south wales are you.. been taking straw into camarthen all summer so south wales seems lot closer than it used too.. and have good idea on diesel costs to that area now.. camarthen and back is £300 that much i do no..!!
  16. i spent £2500 for 16 weeks in 11 diff local papers mainly for the logs but also had tree work ad in aswell... first week which was 2nd week in sept we did 16 loads losg of which 9 were new customers and every week since i've had around 6 or 7 new ones.. so as long as ad pays for itself this yr hopefuly customers will come back next yr.... also had dozens tree jobs from same ads one of which we did on friday for £1200 so to me its worked well.. although i advertise in half those papers every weeek all yr round for trees anyway.. paying £150 month to be on first line google in 5 diff areas which is best thing i've done.. 2nd weeek in building contractor googles tree surgeon in our area and got job to clear site £3500 in day and half with 3 men.... [lot of machines also helped] so that worked pretty much straight away..
  17. our john deere 3215 is 5 yrs old with 5000hrs on clock.. used to change it every 3 yrs max as only cost around 15k to swap each time.... 2 yrs ago it was gonna cost nearly 25k to swap as new ones gone up so much... machine similar spec to ours is over 50k now when 2 yrs ago they were 35k.. we bought a 2nd hand 1994 machine for £7000 this yr instead to even workload out... we wont be buying new again and same goes for tractors.. you just cant do enough work in a season to warrant a new one.. 2 or even 3 [in case of our tractors] good 2nd hand ones far more usefull
  18. so if i'm selling the birch/alder ash thats been cut since june that weighs around 22 ton and exactly same load thats been fresh felled that weighs 25 ton... tell me what the diff is... i'll tell you what it is.. theres no diff so weight is irrelevant... all anyome buying firewood needs to no is that the lorry is full.... end of... if the wood weighs light and your expecting 26 ton on load and only get 22 all they do is put price cord up accordingly.. hence reason fresh felled beech is £35 ton roadside and pure ash or birch is £40-45..it aint rocket science!!!!
  19. robert wraight will be the man
  20. yeah.. bought 2 loads beech today.. 60% would go through processor ok rest needs saw through it... anyone want it let me no..
  21. makes no diff whether theres 10 ton on a lorry or 20... as long as lorrys full whats it matter...?? only time you'd wanna no is if you had load pure oak or beech and lorry wouldnt be full but you'd wanna make sure you had 26 ton on an artic.. i took 6 loads out last week and they all ranged from 21-26.5 tons per load.. but same amount wood on trailer
  22. same here.. taken 14 loads out through the week and 6 to do today so far.. all wood was free and every 15 loads cost me around £200 in wages and diesel and i can normally deliver up to 20 loads for half tank diesel in transit 4 loads at time and 30 mile radius of yard.. so nice income when its been pissing down most of week or too windy for tree work..
  23. tried to find something similar to cover straw stacks.. 200ftx50ft.. nothing available.. the biggest and best qualith was 50x50 and £850
  24. ash/oak 1600 quid load delivered... prob 30% oak
