  1. I thought everyone had to do it.. 35 hours in total before 2014 then so many hours a yr there after.. I no some older drivers who are retiring early cos they won't do it.
  2. Not sure about 7.5 tonnes but no I have to do same.. Just find nearest course and book a day... 8 hrs at time I think...
  3. Lot better on fuel than the similar horse power John Deere it replaced.. And hope for there sake it's more reliable.. That's why they changed.. Local John Deere dealer was getting bit too big for their boots I think..... It certainly shook them up when they found out their biggest production line John Deere had been swapped for a Claas..!!
  4. Your right John... Waiting for quote per hour from my cousin to use our plough, wearing metal and diesel with his 400hp Claas xzerion. I'm finding it hard to find time to finish our winter ploughing and judging by his prices he's talking about I can sit in lorry all day and earn more than he'll be charging... And his tractor is £150000's worth..
  5. Yeah I no exactly what our saying and if my only source of income was from haulage then I'd be out in it full time.. But £3000 yr fixed cost is only £60 week and as part of the farm enterprise it's not a real problem... Havin said that there's rarely a week where it doesn't do something... Way I look at it is a £40.000 tractor with a driver goes out at £25 hr... 10 hr day £250.. I earn lot more than that with lorry with lot less outlay..
  6. How many days a yr does that big cat challenger of yours sit in the shed ???? If its anything like most our tractors it'll be in she'd more often than its at work, and more so with a crawler! Our lorry and all 4 trailers would prob be worth half what that crawlers worth.. We are farmers at end day... Unit and all trailers is no diff to us than any other bit kit we have.. If its not at work every day doesn't matter.. Havin said that if I had a full time driver I could have it out 5.5 days week.. I do the work when it's there and fit it in with farm work.. There is work there every day yr... If we have no timber, plant, hay, straw or grain of our own to move then one phone call and I can get a day or weeks work with bulker.. Not best rates but it will pay better than most of our farm machines on day rate...
  7. i agree... theres hauliers running timber around all day to earn a good wage.. trouble is they are so busy doing their regular runs to the mills etc that you can never get hold of them... we dont have that problem.. if theres no good paying work around, lorry either sits in yard or we swap trailers and do something else... lorry and tailers are all paid for, £2300 yr insurance, £700 yr tax... £60 week dont care how long it sits in yard for...
  8. No, he knew who it was aimed at when he posted... Look at his first post.... Then look at next one.... He said he wasn't sure where he red it one min then 2 mins later says he saw what I note on a diff forum.... But I no what you mean....
  9. I'd be interested in all 200 tons depending where it's located.
  10. Read the post on on here properly... Only took lorry in for check yesterday morning..... The post on BFF was for the last check if you read it properly... Which is where I was loading out of farm yards and secure compounds on proper hard standing yards...
  11. Several tractors on there at min.. £9-10000 worth with buy it nows of £4000
  12. Ha.. Says it all. Some us been freezing there nuts off all day movin cattle. Then up at 6 in morning to earn 1000's movin timber.
  13. Half the 400 as it was return load and had to unload in morning .. Google distance from amersham to Swansea and back via a 15 mile detour to pick cord up then divide it by 7.5mpg and tell me how much you'd do it for.. And it's my luck I had return load to go 10 miles from me next day..
  14. No as you can have lorry running when on break.. Ie in winter with heater on, summer with air con on.. My lorrys far to old for digi.. Have analogue taco
  15. Some loads are more than £800.. Quoted someone on here £1200 load to North Yorkshire tonight.. Load up there. Night in lorry. Pick load up from Woodall spa lincs and drop it Peterborough another £500 then home.. But majority are £3-400 or £15 ton and 2 in day.. If you read my posts on other forum properly you'd realise it was an average with diff trailers.. As for breaks. I used to 18 hr days sat on tractor.. Half hour sat on crane isn't what I'd call strenuous.. You stick to what ever it is that you do and I'll stick to what I do and judging by fact my in box iOS pretty much always full I must be doing something right... Or get your head out your arse and buy a lorry and see how you get on...!!
  16. Rates are based on £650 day or £750 if longer distance. I run close to wind and in doing so I can get an extra load or what I call half load in.. (Load on way home so it's ready to go early next morn). That gets me another £150-200 day.. My min cost per load even for a mile is £250... I run 4 diff trailers... Low loader and 45 flat on hay and straw is most profitable..hay and straw will give me £1000 after diesel some days.. But that's more about knowing where to sell, and where to get straw from.. All our straw goes west Wales area, Devon/ Cornwall... They pay £85 ton for it and we produce it or buy it locally accordingly.. Low loader is similar.. 2 local £350 runs back home for lunch £150 diesel... But don't get me wrong there's people who will o same 2 runs for £150 each.. This is why I pick and choose work we do, and can do that by havin 4 diff trailers.. Low loader or timber hauliers will only be doing there thing.. My cousin half mile away asked me for price to move 4 loads ash 3 mile round trip.. I told him £200 load as favour.. Someone from Sussex did it for 100 load.. Running straw in summer for instance, two 8 weekly checks cost less than £200.. One check on timber for 8 weeks just cost over £1000.. Tyre on trailer with sidewall damage.. Set air pipes on rear axle where lump cord slipped.. Air bag on trailer, suspension fault on unit... And that doesn't include 2 hydraulic hoses on crane... But 8 weeks before cost nothing.. Mainly as was loading off a farm yard on concrete most time..
  17. I can sort you out...
  18. Ha... Don't think so.... There's plenty muppets moving timber for £175 load or £7 ton.. I work on £650-750 a day before diesel... Normally end up with 3-400 after diesel for a 6.30am start and 6-7pm finish... And that's solid working.. No breaks.. Obviously you can only drive for 4.5 hrs then have to have a 45 min break.. But with loading and unloading that's classed as break.... If vosa ask I was being cross loaded and unloaded... All artic drivers/ lorry drag drivers work on £650 day but that's on flat work... Timber is more specialist and bloody hard on the unit and lorry doesn't get switched off all day as unloading and loading... If I had to rely on it for a living it'd be sold in morning...
  19. I don't dispute that. Every tractor we have has sticker from new in window saying do not exceed 20mph... Just wouldn't not buy a 50k tractor and use it at that speed cos its illegal..
  20. Speed limit for cars is heavily enforced.... Would you say same for tractors... All I'm saying is we bought our first 40 k tractor in 1992.. And I'd driven them for someone else for year previously.. In 22 yrs of drivin at 40-50k never had problem nor has anyone I no in same time so I wouldn't not base buying a 50k tractor on fact it's illegal... As for what CTS was saying about fast rac being gutless towing 12 ton... Are you telling me a mog is any diff.... I no my 1600 is painfull with a 12 ton trailer full logs on back... You need min 280hp to tow 12 ton plus trailer around at 40 or 50 k...
  21. There aren't mant tractors on the road now that don't do 50k and prob 80-90% will be doing 40k. I've never heard of a problem doing more than 20mph. We 've had some pretty serious collisions over yrs and no of local contractor who unfortunately had fatality in an accident... Not his fault.. All tractors exeeded 20mph with no mention by police or accident enquiry..
  22. Didn't say we only run it at 30 mph to save fuel... You tried towing a 33 ft flat with big Hesstons stacked 3 high on a twin axle draw bar trailer. Any faster you'll have the lot over.. Y
  23. We have a 3155 fastback. Uses less diesel per day hauling straw than the same hp tractor (155) .. Think that's cos it's never running flat out so to speak... Half throttle for 30mph which s ample with load straw or grain on back whereas tractor is Revin it's nut off to do 27mph... Would say its lot cheaper to run than a mob.. Other than a new air con pump and a hydraulic valve that's all we done in 3 yrs and nearly 4000 hrs.. Bit under powered compared to a 3185
  24. £1650 for birch sycamore ash oak
