  8. If that was me I'd be putting a match to his pile cordwood. One thing I can't tolerate is people going behind your back on one of your deals. Used to get it all the time when I was buying and selling lorrys. People. I sold to would go to address's from the name and address on log books of lorrys trying to get foot in the door o buy all their lorrys. Luckily the company's I used to buy from we're more loyal than the people I sold to....
  9. 8000km's in 3 weeks. Trying to find anotherbtomput on full time grain haulage, but I'm looking at 05 plates with twice the Kim's on clock and no where near as tidy, and most have that bloody auto box!!! Think I'll be looking for long time for another like one I got..

  13. is the 80 series the amazon???? 1990-2007/8 if so i can honestly say i no of dozens owned by myself and others that have never so much as had set brake pads... mine isa 1999.. bought it 18 months ago with 50k on clock. its now done 90k and xmas eve the fan belt went on it... guy i bought it from never did a thing to it.... i no that as my mate serviced it from day 1... i've put few sets brake pads in it but thats it... its never been to a mechanic other than for service..
  14. never towed a thing with it... and i only did 8000 miles in time i owned it.. buy a late td5 if you really must have one...
  15. trouble with paye is theres no real winner only the hmrc... our guy took home about £300 a week but it cost us nearly £430 aweek... and thats without the payed holiday, sick pay etc. he's now self employed and earns the £400 week for doing same hours...
  16. we had a worker on farm on paye.. luckily he handed his notice in yr ago and got job outside of farming... never ever again.... i dont get paid if i'm sick. i dont get paid if i go on holiday and dont get paid when i'm ill so why the hell pay someone else to do all the above...
  17. yeah there brilliant those new defenders... 2 gearboxs in mine... a rear diff. and numerous engine management problems in just under a yr.[already had replacement gearbox in it before i bought it and one when i owned it]. only had 35k on clock... mates dad bought brand new 60 plate 110.. gearbox replaced already... scrap..
  18. but you wont get the job will you as someone who isnt vat registered will price it at £620 and he'l still be cheaper than you... my acc told me when i registered that most companys will include the vat in there normal price [as you said £550]. and as your now registered and can claim vat back on everything you put through business it will even itself out somewhere along the line.... i get under cut all the time and thats with me inc the vat in the price.. if i put it on top i'd never work... typical example this morning... priced job for £1700 inc vat... they said, and showed me quote they already had for £1550 wih no vat. [i do lot work for these people]... and they were paying them cash... i got the job for £1500 inc vat which means i get £1250 after paying the vat.. your be claiming 1000's a yr back from vat which guy down road cant dont forget.. i've noticed it more since running an artic.. £700 in the tank in diesel for instance every 2ish days... when you look at vat reciept theres nearly £120 to claim back. guy who's not registered has to swallow that...
  19. no nothing underhand... obviously with self employed workers having to work for more than one person it gets round that problem also... i originally started doing it when ressesion started and there wasnt always money in acc cleared every week. knew they would get paid if came straight from a customer.. just carried it on really.. also dont get charged by bank for writing 2 cheques out every week either....
  20. i wouldnt price it as 500+vat though. if the jobs a 500 quid job thats what its gotta be and you gotta work harder and faster than guy down road who isnt registered so you can fit a £120 job in that day as well to make up for it... i get a cheque at end of every job we do... very rarely does customer ask for an invoice, so although i write an invoice for every cheque i get the customers copy goes in bin... i just put the amount the job was for at bottom. book keeper works vat out for every inoice and submits it... again i've been doing this for yrs and with 2 vat inspections and not a mention of vat on an invoice never had problem... obviously if customers registered vat is stated at 20% and my vat no is written on invoice..
  21. agree. i never mention vat and if they ask i say we're not registered... vats in the price. just divide price by 1.2 and thats what your left with after paying vat...
  22. i always fail to see what the big deal is with paying tax.. with the right advice and good accountant you should pay very little if no tax at all. i paid none last yr and £230 yr before... vat is diff matter.. makes me sick every quarter giving my hard earned cash away in 1000's when guy down road does exactly same job at same price and pays nothing... seems those that do well in having bigger turnover [which in no way means bigger profit] get penalised...
  23. how can that be... only person i'm evading is myself as when i do my end yr accounts i have no invoices for any labour thus my profit looks more than it would do if i had invoices for £40000 for labour... my accountant said there was no problem in doing this and had tax inspection 2 yrs ago and they did ask why i had no labour invoices. i explained, no problem. all my guys are self employed obviously..
  24. I pay no wages at all. All guys who work for me bill a client for a job or 2 every week. I explain to client the situation and they get bill from one my guys for the tree work or logs they then give them a cheque. Simple.
  25. What's your post code I'll,give you quote
