  1. Try LPM they hire and sell. Based Mansfield and Newark
  2. Has anyone fitted a swing crane to the back of a tipper body. I have just bought one to unload my bags of logs and for ease of load small plant and large logs. I want to be able to use my tipper when the crane is not attached. Any pictures of fitting and strengthening of body wood be greatly appreciated
  3. I must be in wrong area as they seem to be buying of the expensive guys who spout total rubbish about being seasoned for a year, when they only bought them 4 months ago in length's. Claiming to be hetas assured, all logs are British sourced and a builders bag is 1 cubic meter. I suppose with about 20 years selling logs what do I no. But I do have alot of regular customer's who are very happy with what I sell and I cannot be doing with picky plonkers who know everything about firewood which they learned of the internet
  4. Get some stickers signs made up. "NOT A SEAT. NO FAT ARSES". Might work
  5. Not us. Left all the logs there on order of the council and guess what they all vanished but 3. Did you notice how many men in yellow jackets standing around doing nothing. Its hse madness
  6. We are the main contractor and they claim to have ash dieback in the area but these tree look fine with no sign of it. Also how come they seem to discover ash dieback in late autumn when the leaves are dropping
  7. What is the correct way to dispose arising's when you are working roadside on a very busy road.
  8. I pass them type on to my competition let them deal with em. Cannot be bothered with people who think they know everything
  9. My wife was burning the chimney last Saturday. You could see our house from space. Coni beech silverbirch pine
  10. Been asking the same question. Is there anything on the market that could split a large man handle able size log into split logs in one go that doesn't have a 6ft ram. If not would there be a market for one and how much would you pay for one

    Grass mowing

Was thinking of a hayter or ransom triple gang ride on. What sort of prices do people charge or should I be looking at
  12. I'm thinking of doing some grass mowing for our village as the parish council aren't happy with the contractors. I've do plenty of mowing in the past but through a farmer so only ever change hourly. What sort of price would you charge for a football pitch and would you do it weekly in summer or depending on grass growth.
  13. Police. We had a visible police force that you were scared of. Would give you a clip round the ear for being cheeky, knew who you parents were, and did the job the were paid to do
  14. Them were the days. I stacked about 1500 bales one year by hand (small bales). Weeding around fodder beer with a hoe. Conventional ploughing, non of this reversable stuff. Mastering the art of loading bales with a pitchfork. You knew you had done a days work
  15. Well worth the price
  16. Rev adjuster. Try it a night ones going to be right
  17. I would say that's cracking straight down the middle. Water is getting into the crack and washing the muck out.
  18. Be careful. Was told you don't want one that's come straight of another truck as you don't know how long they will last. A recon one for 700 sounds good. They don't need remapping you just leave ignition on for a short while to reset itself. So i was told
  19. What year. Just had mine done on a 2000 reg. Cost about £1250 including pump.
  20. I've got a big roll of polythene which they use when covering carrots. A roll last for years even half a roll. I lay on gravel driveways, tip logs out of bag, tell customer to keep sheet. No mess, very cheap and everyone happy
  21. Thanks all. Useful to no what others think. The new boss is the owner's son. She's 97 he's 66 ish ex doctor(was asked to leave the profession) and owns a third of the farm along with his sister and old bosses partner. He's spent most of his time high on weed and hated his family ripping up the land. His idea of farming is sitting on a ride on backwards harvesting his wild grass seed (he's told us all this). Great bloke to work for if you like being a yes man and stabbed in the back
  22. That's what the previous boss did Steve. The new boss is the part owner, has had no interest in the farm untill 3 years ago and doesn't see things like that. I think he don't like me after we had a chat when he accused me of being lazy even though i had been working my bits off and the fact that I'm not one of his YES men. I didn't disrespect him i just told him straight. Now he's questioning my rates and what i do.
  23. My rates are about right then. The place is a good place to work and the guys i work with are a good bunch it's just the boss he's a nob (and that's being polite). This is my 15 summer with them but I'm start to think about a change
  24. During summer while tree work slow i contract tractor drive for a local farmer. Since a sudden management change (the boss dropping dead) and the new management taking over they have started questioning my hourly rates. With the old management you would get extras such as forklift training, first aid etc at no extra cost. But now not. Question is what's the going rate for a tractor driver / yard person self employed over 40 with over 25 years experience
  25. I did a site clearance earlier this year with the instructions that all but 2 section of hedge were to be felled and chipped. Had already spoke to a neighbor when topping the site and guessed he would be a problem. Anyway started chain sawing got through a tank of fuel and went off to refuel. Came back to a very irate bloke claiming we were chopping his hedge down and he was going to "smash our heads in" for doing so. I pointed him in the direction of site manage (the one with the cleanest hi-vis). Turned out we were chopping his hedge down the site manager had got it wrong. He calmed down they came to an agreement he apologized to us and we got an extra days work .
