  1. Just what I was thinking. What's the point burning wood for the sake of it just to get money back. You probably burning more money than making. Don't make sense. Not very green
  2. How many cubic meters of wood does it take to dry say 10 cube of green oak. I just don't see how these bio mass boilers are worth it this time of year
  3. I've seen that picture before. Don't think either are legit
  4. They cannot predict tomorrow's weather correctly so next winter is just a guess. I'll just keep splitting logs as if the winter is going to be cold and see what happens
  5. They charge £30 our way. Something to do with Vioela and there secret deal with the council
  6. Its all 1 piece. Both are from the same tree. I had a couple of logs kicking about for him to carve
  7. Don't do it it ain't worth the trouble. I've lent mine to trusted friends/family and something always goes wrong but they never tell you. You only find out when you use it. Do the job for them but don't rent it out you will regret it. But its up to you
  8. Ours don't charge they just close them down so if you want to tip you have to travel twice as far. Its not surprising that fly tipping is on the increase.
  9. Brilliant job. I still cannot see how you see that in a chunk of oak
  10. A farm I worked for have a 10ft container for a chemical store. Would make a excellent tool store in the corner of a workshop/yard. Was thinking of getting 1 when I move site
  11. I have 2 beech trunks that I have had for over a year now 3ft across and about 8ft long. The thickest one is straight with no knots. The other has. I was planning of milling them as they have plenty of spalting to make a table top and then sell the rest. I did read on here awhile ago that someone sold a similar piece for 3 grand. . Would it be worth selling as a whole or in boards and is there anyone local ish to me may be interested (mills, furniture makers etc) I can transport for the right or it can be milled on site
  12. So shove it back on council land. Who is to know you put it there unless you are seen . A farmer I worked for used to do it. Soon got cleared up by council
  13. Chuck it back. I have a whole housing estate that used our hedge's as a tip. Most of them got the hint when they found there rubbish back on there gardens even the coppers that lived there. I do get the odd newcomer that tries it on but don't last long. If you want evidence wait till he cuts his grass and see if he dumps it again. Should be fresh tracks and easy to follow
  14. I have recently bought some tree hog spikes but they don't seem to do any Velcro straps for them. Could I use another make like the bashlin ones. My old ones have the Velcro straps which I much prefer but aren't treehog but the fittings are much the same. Any help, advice much appreciated. Marc
  15. Daft question but does the solicitor on the paper exist and have they spoke to them. I'm just curious why they have gone straight to solicitors and not asked the neighbours direct or even by a letter. Unless they have previous
  16. Found out its a very foggy subject. Unless on the deeds it seems no one owns it. If you put up a fence on the boundary and you pay for it its yours. The neighbour cannot fix to or paint without your permission. The council ain't much use so it looks like I'm paying for another fence again
  17. Its not local is it. Next to a play area near a cricket ground
  18. Forgot about the deeds. Would the council know as the house next door is council owned
  19. I have some tight arsed council scrounging neighbours who are refusing to replace the broken fence panels. We have asked. . The question is who owns it. I understand as you look onto your back garden the fence on the left is the neighbours responsibility. Is this right. Is there any legal right. . We did replace the whole fence years ago, jointly, and he agreed it was his but seems to have forgotten . Any advise greatly appreciated
  20. I have been asked to supply 2 large oak trunks (2.5ft x 5ft) for a chap I do some work for who owns and runs a business park local to me. He wants them for a ww1 memorial I think, as the business park was hospital for soldiers during and after the war. Now should I charge them for them if so how much and/or donate the money to the RBL or keep it. I was going to either plank them and sell the wood or make some more benches when I get time but still have a couple of trunks left.
  21. Problem is you have to fine someone good enough they won't knacker your machinery and have a fag break every 10 min. Claiming 6 builders bag is a good days work for 1 person
  22. Buy a quality log splitter and some vented bags. Pay for itself in no time
  23. Darwin award come's to mind
  24. I'm to old for boosters so my doctor told me (over 40). I have had 2 or 3 since school due to working in farming and tree work. Never had much problem with infection but will see now I don't get boosters
