  1. Totally agree with this I live on the Usk that goes into the severn estuary we was on flood alert a few weeks back I contacted the council for sandbags but they never delivered so I got off my backside went to robert price and got somebefore the high tide came in again ,my house is less than 5 metres from the waters edge and its tidal where I am.I didnt see one other person in the whole street making any preperations just incase even though there was a real risk of us flooding . I may not of used them that time but with the way the weather seems to be going lately it wouldnt suprise me if we are at risk of flooding again soon
  2. As good a climber as he is from a parents perspective I really feel sorry for his mum if and when something happens she seems like a very tolerable lady considering what her son does I am sure she worries like crazy over her boy. I watched it last night online and was nearly turning away from screen and my stomach was churning at the thought of him losing his grip. When it's him supporting hiself in his climb then fine that's his choice but when he entered another country and was holding the Ukraine guy off the side of the bridge now that I thought was a tad bit stupid because he was holding somebody else life in his hands , what if it had gone wrong? in another country he may not of stood a chance of explaining the situation the police over there, they could of claimed he threw the other guy off and he could of landed hiself in prison on a manslaughter charge they looked like the authorities suspected enough dodgy things by thinking they were terrorists!. The Ukrain guy looked crazy as for James I think he is mis guided his talents could be put to good use .I just hope it does not lead to too many people trying to think they can do the same when they have not had the training that somebody like James has had .
  3. Just been looking at anti vibration gloves after doing a few hours with the brushcutter on some brambles downed the brush cutter and my hands were certainly feeling it. I have not used it since before my op but I am having real problems with pillar pain in my palm it just will not go and I am finding it hard to get back into working 100% with the pain there I need to get some gloves to try and take the pressure off and just wondered what ones would you guys recomend?
  4. I have had the same response from my local dealer husqi one I am refferring to stuck in their ways and cant be more open to the fact there are more business out there than just theirs I have only purchased two machines there over the years first one was a good purchase second one I had to buy as my hedge cutters packed up in the middle of a job but I had to take my saws in for a few parts here and there and every time I got the you didnt buy this from us thing going on makes me reluctant to go back at all . But I would like to say thanks to abbey garden sales for helping me find the part for my husq blower earlier fantastic customer service there
  5. Omg ! can you not kill and sell the rabbits?there must be a lot of them there to do all that
  6. Thanks everyone I eventually bought some sweet chestnut from say it with wood no doubt I will have another order in the near future for them as going to get a bit done at a time and lay hedges where there are old hedges to be laid.I am yet to get it installed are those prices including the posts and fencing materials or just installation?I did look into recycled plastic they were more expensive but the thought crossed my mind after seeing a local cyle track that has used them they appear to be warping so I decided against it and besides wood looks much nicer.Any recomendations of local installers would be highly appreciated as I would like to get a couple of quotes as cant see me getting it done anytime soon would rather somebody who is experienced with installing fencing doing the job on the lower half of our ground
  7. They are all fab ideas !I love the paddles they look great how long did they take to craft?
  8. Gwent police seem to be recovering a lot in this area also I signed up to farm watch and lately they have recovered items they think may of been stolen from farms no doubt there are probably a few chainsaws amongst it all and a few weeks back they recovered a chipper too, heres a copy and paste of the latest e mail....Thank you for all the info supplied which allowed us to conduct several search warrants at addresses in Newport on the weekend investigating farm crime across Gwent, especially Monmouth.Your info has been key to this and we would encourage you to continue to do so. I have attatched a photo from one of the addresses where we arrested 2 males for a wide range of offences such as cannabis cultivation, firearms offences, wildlife crime and a large haul of stolen property Property included a stolen £20,000 digger from Newport, unaccounted for generators, hilti guns and other tools. We are keen to reunite owners and i feel some of the property is possibly from farms. If you have had items stolen you are welcome to contact me and I will arrange a viewing. It was a long night for me on Saturday when I should have been cosied up at home with my family, but worthwhile. The arrested persons are on bail until February with certain conditions. One male c An image has been attached to accompany this message. 9. I know plumbers use smoke tablets to test how well a draw is on the chimney if there is a risk of carbon monoxide it needs addressing I would be very doubtfull of it being tree related more a structure issue only somebody who is qaulified for chimney installations would be able to tell really if anything a tree being there should protect the chimney from strong winds by sheltering it so I would think it is more an issue of the draw on the chimney itself that needs addressing.
  10. I lifted the sheet of my log pile the other day only to instantly uncover 4 queens trying to hibernate needless to say they all got sqaushed with a log I bet there are loads in my log pile. I have been stung a few times this year so far and absolutly hate the things I dont like the sound of those ones they say are making their way over to Britain from France they look nasty.
  11. I actually like it its good to see something that shows a little respect for the women who were recruited during the war
  12. My hubby brought one of these back the other day his mate had asked him to sharpen his saw for him it came through the door with the bar splayed chain hanging down obvious fake my response tell him to put it in the bin and buy a proper saw from a proper retailer before he has an accident. It amazes me the people who are willing to buy them thinking they are getting a bargain .I am still on gaurd from the last one that knocked the door trying to sell me fakes it was only yesterday I walked around the corner and up the road and spotted them eying up our boat stood(boats made of metal) behind my truck with a scrap metal van parked 40 metres up the road from where he was stood when he saw me walking up he moved on then bet the boat dissapears soon I didnt click at first as thought he was looking into my truck saying that he was probably doing both.Wish they would leave other peoples stuff alone
  13. Yep its is getting there but think it will take a few more weeks yet before its 100 % .Just added a new pic the little finger side of the scar upwards and into the finger it hurts still quiet a bit its the muscle thats giving me grief not the actuall scar .The scar is looking a bit red im sure once that goes it will just look like another line on the palm and be hardly noticable I am still going to take it steady until its 100% I need my power back its amazing how much the muscles weakend and how it affected the whole hand but its coming back slowly I think the more exercise it gets the stronger it will get but its going to take time longer than I expected
  14. wow just spotted this thread so I guess I should update thanks for the info everyone . I finally had it done the 1st Oct ! and so far I would say its successfull I took 6 weeks off contract went to plan everything worked out really well even though I was panicking in the run up to it and knowing I would need time off work. I removed a small salix yesterday to have a little warm up before starting back in general gardening just to see where I was really, my grip is back I can hold a saw no problems but the biggest problem is weight if I have to lift it hurts not where the incision is but where the muscle is apparently its called pillar pain where the ligament has receeded to the muscle and hardend so deep tissue massages to break down the scar tissue inside . The physio way didnt work for me and I didnt see a sports therapist because I was already in the system I dont regret having it done though I can hold a cuppa in the morning without spilling it now or having to wait for my hand to wake up and get sensation in it before I could hold anything. I would recomend though if anyone does suspect it carpel try physio and sports therapist first as any invasive op causes adhesions and they are a problem . Sorry to hear you have neuralgic amyotrophy Justme but glad they done the tests for you and the pain has eased.Andrew how did you break your stitches!!ow my hand was sore as hell for the first few weeks can imagine it breaking open !How is it now?I am hoping a few more weeks and I will see an improvement in my strength the muscle is still weak atm
  15. Sounds like white finger would do as others have suggested more frequent breaks invest in some gel gloves maybe even deep tissue massage on the palm may help to increase circulation in the area see a proper massuer
  16. Hope the op goes ok for you at least they picked up on it early and at the age you are you stand a better chance of recovering from the op good luck
  17. I have just had the op first day back at work today get it done asap before you end up with muscle wastage if thats what the doc ordered .It meant 6 weeks off for me and my grip is strong but the muscles the ligaments are attatched to have weakened from the op hoping the strength returns to full strength soon but really glad I had it done now as have had no symptoms since just pillar pain.
  18. Good to hear there was a quick response and hope everyone was ok. I have seen through past experience it really depends on what the circumstances are as to how quick they get there I had a bogus caller creepy one at that on my door pretended he was a gas man held his phone out as if it was a meter only thing was I didnt have gas full stop so knew he was trying it on and told him straight with that he fled but I got straight on the phone within minutes the street was swarmed in police and they searched locally he must of got into a vehicle and driven off but my initial reaction was what if he had conned somebody and gotten into their home what would he of done exactly?
  19. I had one like that in a black izuzu knock my door about two months ago trying to sell me saws he asked to speak to the Lad with the saws obviously couldnt read for anything as my truck clearly states im a lady. They are nothing but a damn nuisance im still half expecting an attempted break in as a result of that particular visitior
  20. Sounds like a fab idea you can put me down for one too when its done good luck with it
  21. That is a nasty bite looks like you cut the same depth as my surgeon who done my carpel tunnel op last week did and you got the same amount of stitches !lol Hope it heals quickly keep it clean and dry until it knits properly make sure it breathes when your not working as will heal quicker latex glove wont do it any favours as will sweat beneath so let the air get to it as much as possible
  22. I think my passion for wood brought me into what I do now I see things in wood that can be created that most people dont see until its done and my need for firewood also got me more involved with it all ,for years I had sourced driftwood off the river before I ever picked up a chainsaw . The more I do the more I learn and the more I respect the tree's, I notice things now I would never of payed any attention to five years ago I appreciate the more mature trees we have standing and the habitat they provide for everything I love wildlife and I guess trees and wildlife are just what I enjoy seeing working and being around. But as I said up there it was my love of firewood that started it all and my interest in trees have grown so much since then and I am sure will continue to do so .
  23. Can anyone recommend anyone who treats knotweed and has pesticides licence and insurance local to Newport Gwent please ?I am looking for quotes on a site that will require treatment for the next couple of years to eradicate the knotweed that’s present .Thanks all
