  1. Treebay on fb get a lot of arb trucks advertised on there .
  2. learning that should of said in the title lol Can anyone tell me what long distance courses are available and where I should be looking for them? I currently have my cs30&31 and my chipper tickets but I really want to advance my training over the next couple of years, due to home circumstances I have been working self employed for almost 3 years now found work has taken over quite a bit where I had planned to do more training but just did not have time to fit it in when I should of done mostly due to workload and stuff outside of work. I made a point of getting started with my training again and I started before Christmas and done my chipper ticket and currently got a date and days lesson booked for march for my trailer test so I can get that out the way too,I would like to do my climbing and ariel rescue but I am not confident enough to just yet I feel I need more experience and somebody to teach me working alone has not helped this situation even though I don't intend on going out and tackling large mature trees as its just me and my business with no intentions of expanding yet,I feel I have passed on work that I could of done had I had my tickets and the knowledge to do so and its time to put that right so I am looking for courses and advice should I be looking at starting with Level 2 Cert in Arb ?is that a good starting place?and what fees are involved with this course I could of spent money on a chipper but I feel I can manage without one for the time being and training is more important to me for the long term ,any advice would be much appreciated help me get back on track

  6. I ordered some off e bay and was going to give it ago on their hedge to see if I can wipe the things out but I read you can buy it at any main horticultural suppliers so was gonna take a look and ask around the next time I head out to the main garden centres as have not heard of it before pro green must of sold it at one point but dont seem to have anything on their website for it.Let me know if the provado works
  7. Just an update I found out the oil is called neem oil that is used for organically treating spider mites this is what my customer opted for as safe to use around her dog
  8. I returned today and took these pics I shook the branches that were bad where I had shaken them yesterday but nowhere near the same amount of bugs fell out so I assume they were upset by me cutting the other side yesterday but this is how it looked when I returned after cutting the front last week !Does anyone know how long it takes for them to work their way through a hedge and cause damage like you see in other pics?I e mailed Bayer and asked if they do a product and got the response below but I read online there is an oil product does anyone know what this stuff is?my customer would be much happier with that being used than chemicals and would happily spray it on at her own leisure if I can find out what the product is - Thank you for your enquiry regarding the control of conifer mites. These, and the cypress aphid can cause brown patches to appear along conifer hedges. Provado Ultimate Bug killer Concentrate 2 is suitable for the control of either of these pests at a rate of 20ml/lt water. I have attached a link to the RHS on the subject of conifer hedges and some reasons why they may be browning. Just to note - it will be only the oils, which make up the bulk of this liquid concentrate, that will go some way to controlling mites by blocking their breathing holes, If the browning of these hedges is due to the cypress aphid systemic control will be offered from this insecticide Provado Ultimate Bug Killer Concentrate 2 is available from many garden centres and certain DIY stores. I have attached a product image which may help you to recognise it when next out shopping for your garden. (easydose - new, current bottle) but you may well find the other bottle in store. They are exactly the same, merely different bottles. Yours sincerely Anita Dent [email protected]
  9. This was how I left it last week today it looked like halloween had been and gone and kids had covered it in cobwebs no sign of catterpillars although there were a lot of moths coming from the hedge whilst I cut the inside I will see if I can get a shot of the mites tomorrow but they may be too small for the camera
  10. I grabbed these pics but this is of the inside will get one now of what i left it like on the outside last week and will grab one tomorrow whilst im back there of what the outside now looks like I was a bit mortified if im totally honest it is like somebody spun a web right across the whole hedgeline its everywhere and tips have browned on tips where cut but still green beneath the one pic shows the tree further up in the next garden thats completely wiped out.You can almost see the cobwebs over the hedge in the last pic they are everywhere on it
  11. I started on a hedge last week and returned to finish it this week only to find when I arrived the whole side I had cut was absolutely plastered in cobwebs and starting to brown initially I thought the tips had been sun scorched with it being so dry as plenty of green underneath and it was a hot day when I cut it but when I went around to the other side of the hedge I soon spotted it had rather large browned areas that were not there before when I last saw it back in the winter and again cobwebs all over .I googled it and came across conifer mite and progreens website showed how to check for it so I did the paper check and I found loads of the things ! my customer has a dog and wants something that is not going to harm the dog she will not use weedkillers etc due to the dog can somebody recomend a product that will get these things under control please as I dont want her to lose the hedge either as its a lovely hedge also how far do these things travel there is a tree in a neighbours garden thats completely browned off and dead could they of come from there?.
  12. If it's in a bad way then it's more humane to dispatch it it will probably die by the morning if it's that bad anyway certainly shouldn't be left to suffer .
  13. Most people use picture apps on their i phones etc to make the side by side ones
  14. I do it and no it has not affected my business its tough going and gets even harder when the kids are ill and the school phones and your in the middle of a job which then leads to you downing tools and explaining to the customer, but I am yet to have an unsatisfied custome most people have had children theirselves and totally understand that those are your working hours but I do make a point when doing quotes of explaining I work around my children and if anything crops up thats how it is .I cant do big jobs anyway as not qaulified to so stick to small medium trees and general gardening that suits me fine I dont think I could physcially work harder than I do now anyway and with the gardening side of it most of my regulars let me take my boys with me as they know they help more than anything else so they get more done for the time im there.I just think its important to explain from the word go thats that is how you run your business .
  15. Thanks guys I just wondered if there was anything out there that I have not considered for it thanks for the info
  16. My Karcher petrol pressure washer spend several hundred pounds on it and its a peice of junk nothing but problems since day one ,latest thing that went on it was a fuel hose split when I was in a rush to get out the door to parents evening dropped the thing off through the front door rushing thought I would put it away later when I got back home only to come home after and find it had spilt fuel right down my hallway floor and the house stank of petrol! luckily I have tiled floors but I hate the thing always been a nightmare to start and since I have seen loads of the same model on e bay being sold because they have trouble starting it
  17. I am looking for the best ways of mounting bird boxes to trees .I am aware of arbor bolts but I am working with a charity that has a limited budget and these are a little out of their price range so what I am looking for is the safest least damaging way to mount some boxes to the trees can people please suggest some tried and tested methods and how frequently they should be checked and adjusted if neccassary ?
  18. So pleased to hear this so many gnats and midges about we really need them and the house martins to come back we are lucky to get swifts that live with us through the summer in our attic they have returned for over 14 years now same nest each and every time they fly up under our facia board and into the loft and do nothing but screech the whole time they are in and out but its lovely to hear and see them and their new babies every year
  19. I had the same before Christmas! and this was of the travellor type I heard a chainsaw fire up on my land so ran down to where it was coming from only to be greeted by two tubby blokes no PPE trying to run up the bank to where I was totally out of breath but once they caught their breath the accent came out they were only down there knicking one of my holly trees so they could sell the holly !They cut the whole tree out and had piled it into the back of a transit van when I told them to clear off they tried to cover the stump they had cut by rubbing mud into it!. Just last week I was working on a site and we had left a stack of wood on the roadside in the hope it would be taken nobody took it whilst we was there I left to go collect the kids from school thinking I better get back with the saw and clear it off the road onto a neighbouring drive in the 30 mins I was gone by the time I returned there was not a scrap left they had taken the whole lot saved me a load of hassle and nobody saw a thing lol
  20. I have a customer who wants one of these removed the removing it part is simple but what can I use that will 100%work to kill the roots systems off ?I know how robust these things are and how well they can regrow so I need something that will definitely kill it before she has a fence installed
  21. So glad I seen this I kept the berries off my mistletoe this year with intentions of trying to propagate them, very intersting to hear how some of you have managed to get it to propagate .I will be having a go on Sunday myself now I have loads of hawthorn and apple and crab apple so will try on those
  22. I may be wrong and forgive me if somebody has already mentioned this one but I noticed nobody has mentioned doing a wormery producing for fishing etc apparently they are fairly straight forward and when done on a large scale profitable I was going to look into it myself but never have the time . Also there seems to be a lot of UK vineyards cropping up about the place not sure how well they would do I think whatever you go for needs to be unique and profitable you need to find that niche in the market to get your return from the land ,if you had a small area of forestery you could do bushcraft for the local schools etc offering forest day school trip days out or educational tours ,you could plant an orchard keep bees supply local shops with local honey sell wax for candle /soap making etc ,you could plant a coppice for firewood production but that would obviously be a long term return
  23. Really sorry to hear this , stay positive she is in the best place receiving the best care I hope she recovers soon .
