1. Landscape Management Services might work I'm seeing it increasingly. Would cover quite a few aspects of our trade. Much like a general builder being a roofer/plumber/chippy/electrician/patio layer etc
2. Thats it for me then- I was not looking forward to 3 hours of hobbits in an uncomfortable cinema seat. 2 hours of Life of Pi was just about the limit though a good film and message. Why don't the film makers realise- their films are too long. Anyway- just wanted to say how chuffed I am that everything has worked out well for you Paul. Passed Laing o'Rourkes offices at Dartford crossing yesterday and the lightbulb lit. I made a connection. Just on the way back from a big family meal at the Falcon at Fotheringhay near Oundle. Only £1.90 for half of Greene King IPA. Crazy. So best wishes for 2013.
3. Working class snobs= the worse kind. Meet them regularly. They just hate anyone with new car / good job etc etc. It's often a product of their upbringing mixed with a sprinkling of underachievement.
4. Interesting how a few on here see themselves as working class and wife/children as middle class. Whoever said that power was the most important thing these days was right. You don't have to use it but it's nice to have it. Power isn't 'my tank is bigger than yours' it's just about how you can have what you want within reason and how people react to you. I know a few people who are money rich but not liked- who would want that? Anyway what do you lot know........plebs:biggrin:
5. We've dropped customers because of dog mess. Why not- it's our choice whether to work for them. When it comes to contracts our policy is to mow round and let nature do the work. When it comes to tree work contracts- we clear the mess. No point getting the arse with the customer from the start. We clear their dog poo, they make tea- sorted
6. My spaniel seems to love the waste veg left over from after my juicing experiments. Also we discovered he loves olive oil and this helped him with a stuck up bum after eating a large bone. I don't know much about dog nutrition but I do know the recommended amounts they suggest on the tins of dog food are about 50% too high. It seems dog food manufacturers are supersizing. Good luck with the liver problems. Dogs are carnivores but mine loves bananas:confused1:
7. I knew there would be a scientific answer. I understood it was the difference between hot stove and cool fins. Some think it's rising hot air that spins the fan. Not so.
8. I think some need lessons on how to use a mulching mower.
9. I struggled with sciatica for 4 months about 5 years ago- spent every day in pain. Finally went to a different osteopath who fixed it with one session. If you are ever in Sandgate drop in on him (Family wellness centre- Julian Drion). I've sent others there too and all have had good results- even miraculous. I do know sitting around didn't fix it.
10. Depends on the finish you want- that will be dictated by the customer. For speed and manoeuvrability and shear ability with 4 wheel drive and articulated steering get a stiga park pro. Good mulching facility means you won't have to dispose of cuttings if used regularly. Reasonable second hand model could be bought for around 2 grand. Countax and westwood are really heavy duty domestic mowers and could cost a lot in repairs and time.
11. Try getting it going then spraying water on the cooling fins- does it speed up? I noticed this effect when I dusted them with a wet wipe last week. I guess thats the way they work.
12. Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (2010) on Vimeo. Don't know whether this has been on here before. The guy stuck with it and helped another out along the way. Bought my first juicer yesterday on the basis of this. Not sure I could stick at it for 60 days but a great source of micronutrients.
13. we had a good one how do monkeys make toast? put bread under a gorilla Made me laugh
14. Interesting though Looking at the guy- could you say instinctively he was a badun?
15. Heartfelt. Trouble with insurance is they often specify maintained alarms and mine wants redline. Certain locks on doors etc. It's their way of having a get out clause. Most dealers that I see have the screaming alarm and smoke setup. Adds to your costs but not as much as loosing everything. At least it's a one off cost apart from maintenance contract and insurance premium.
16. As we all know but maybe don't think about regularly. traditional 2 stroke engines are a bit polluting though powerful for their size. A reason they have been so successful. Enviro. legislation is forcing manufacturers to develop cleaner burn engines. Some (esp. Honda) have gone down the 4 stroke route but they are heavier. The air assisted injection makes for less unburnt fuel exiting the exhaust. To the point where the new 2 stroke engines are beginning to rival 4 stroke in clean running. Is this true/ am I thinking straight/ does anyone know. Anyway- I'd be interested to hear from any engineers on here who understand this subject better than my ramblings. Forget the price debate. Do we need aspen now we have a cleaner burn 2 stroke engine.
17. Just noticed this thread- we bought a pair last week and feedback is good. They particularly like the velcro strap. Yes- from Joneses
18. But- the rebate wouldn't be abused if the retail price was higher than petrol. There would be no need to police it. No one is going to pay more for a product just to reduce the governments slice of the pie. Yes I agree- get the price down but the question is how much safer is aspen compared to new 2 mix technology. If every last bit of fuel was burned, surely this would negate the need for aspen type fuel.
19. Have a goodun. It's been good reading your posts this year. Full of xmas cheer all year.
20. This makes sense - totally But as yet............ Just wondering what the levels of noxious/toxic are with 2 mix v. non 2 mix v. aspen. I think this would be a useful comparison. Lets face it we've all followed the old banger chucking out smoke- this must apply to saws etc. too.
21.

No worries

Let me know when you want more

22. Just seen a vid of stihl 2 mix technology. Got me thinking that has this removed or reduced the need for Aspen style fuels without the associated costs. Quote' better for the operator and environment ' as less unburnt fuel emissions. The films I watch.
23. Screw in toe eyes do need screwing in properly. They are lucky no one got hurt. It would have gone off like a gun
24. In 20 years I've never had a Honda engine 'go' on me. The things they fit them to- well they 'go' all the time.
25. Why so Tom= why the need for them to have their own insurance. I regularly use self employed or otherwise employed climbers and don't ever check their insurance as I understand they are covered by mine
