  1. So true I always go to the extremes to decide where I stand. But I'm not suggesting tree workers are all pedos though that this is a reason why it is important to behave reasonably responsibily once you have a job responsibility. How did I do that.... reasonable, responsible and responsibility in one sentence. F it do what you want and face the consequences. It's your life.
  2. Can't help thinking its a shame we have to put these disclaimers... It's not your fault, just a product of the times we live in.
  3. ben You can't include VAT in your overheads as your customers pay this on top of your bill. Theres fixed overheads and variable overheads Fixed are those that don't vary whether you are busy or slack Variable are dependent on how busy you are. Therefore if you are really busy your fixed overheads won't change much but your variables will Unfortunately without working them out separately you can't determine a pricing structure properly. The busier you are the cheaper you can be It's called economies of scale and is one reason why big companies succeed.
  4. If it hasn't already been said Tony Welcome back- your insight is inspiring
  5. Don't waste you time thinning it Ask client what they want and if they were happy with how it looked after the last hit. Go from there Maybe even more drastic would suit if they have light issues.
  6. Check your disciplinary policy Even MP's have to account for their actions outside work. If something you do in your own time brings the company into disrepute then you will find that a valid reason for dismissal. Harsh but fair. Now- disrepute is arguable. Whilst I believe most publicity is good publicity I would have to dismiss an employee who was a pedo. Probably a few others on that list. Makes sense. It would be really bad for the company to keep someone on considering how public we work. Surely thats fair.
  7. It just seems too high Ben. Give us a breakdown and then we can see where or if you could make savings.
  8. wise words If you've done drugs you will understand and many people come out the other the better for it even if it is just the ability to understand the addict mentality. No bodys perfect
  9. Ben- I've come to the conclusion that you are winding us all up the main reason for your post being to make people understand that there are massive costs behind running an arb business that even employees of said business don't fully comprehend even when it is explained to them. Fair play but I think you've over exagerated it by a factor of 2.
  10. You must have done all of them bar a couple at the 3 for a tenner rate. It's a good deal for the customer and a good deal for you= good business
  11. Do you want chips or logs. We have one to take down soonish. Depends where you are though
  12. Plus you can get it from Joneses for about £32+VAT
  13. I think it depends a lot on how wide you spread your net. The more you do= more costs but maybe less downtime as you change workload according to the seasons. Our fixed costs are scarry but not as scarry as yours Ben. Thats around £80K p.a.
  14. Do you know if the police have been round and the outcome yet. I suspect they won't tell you.
  15. With the exception of zero hours contracts which it sounds like you are not on but check first. I do agree- at some point something may give- If you have a good working relationship and don't want to spoil this. If you are paid overtime at 1.5 times normal. If you have all statutory holidays. Are trained well/ good kit/ good H&S setup. Then a few days unpaid may be a small price to pay and it could be best to put your cards on the table. Tell your boss he should be paying you but you understand the position and are happy this time to go down this route rather than digging in your heels. That way he knows you are pulling your weight and he will be grateful. Just a thought. I don't like to see people being bullied. Only you will know what position you should adopt.
  16. I was thinking use Jacksons softwood posts- they last ages especially the big stuff. I've put in posts that are 30 years old now and still fine.
