  1. Keep em coming, finding real world info here. I have loader and soon hopefully hiab available both saving lots of backache. The idea of a deck seems better to me as it takes hydraulic flow from processor or the tractor driving the processor. You don't have to run 2 engines all the time. How do the hydraulic ones feed a single log at once, do you manual stop/start with controls? photos or videos would be good. Thanks.
  2. Pondering and trying to broaden my Knowledge of firewood processing, I have failed to find any concise or definate info on log decks. Is this because they are so simple and easy to copy, or ineffective in use? Do they save time and aches? Do they jam or fail to load a percentage of the time? I was interested in palax in particular. Thanks in advance
  3. Hate to do a time and motion study on the you tube guy posted by sandbach sticks. Time x effort= unsaleable product. Smaller rings x easier chopping= less fatigue and faster throughput, less fatigue.
  4. 8 inches is generally foolproof for length, if your on a smallish scale as you get to know customer requirements and can cut longer according to their needs. Saving you processing time. If you get away with 12 inch for example you save 50% time cutting in theory as opposed to 8 inch.
  5. Do they come in pairs?
  6. We use Small 4wd 21hp compact with chains. It pulls timber we cannot lift between two of us. With a quad you probably need a trailed device that lifts the front end off the ground to be effective I think.
  7. People ask on here for chip tip sites etc. Its good when working away from local areas to have a local tip site. I think it would work, You would need tractor with forks at least to load, I don't imagine anyone considering it much of a service having to lift arisings high on to trailers manually. Another option though £££££s is a tow behind roll on off skip loader, you could leave skips on site whilst going to and from with a load. I think skip companies should do it as they already have waste licences and legal transport regs in place, Risky to run on red. 20 years ago would of been a lot easier to set up/
  8. Tough situation as heat of any sort will probably accelerate the cold draughts passed you. It will be hot at source of heat but 8ft away you probably wont feel the benefit when its freezing. Therefore the bigger KW the burner = less effective. If you dont intend living there long term sort some draught exclusion even cling film over the window frames as cheap double glazing. Stop up draughts best you can. It is handy to have an air intake supply near the fire to stop it dragging cold air across the room. Probably best getting a small one max 8kw as a guess from your info. Not effective to heat other rooms in really cold spells no matter how big, The heat will just rush out and disappear.
  9. I think wasps tag you with a beacon in the sting. Because they still came for me when I was in my chainsaw gear about 400meters away from the place I was stung this summer. I only got 2 stings and iced them for 45mins. One was on the lip, it swelled up 3 times normal size. Antihistan cream on it. Next day you couldn't tell I'd been stung.
  10. What abouts the lack of a receipt for taking the items?
  11. Need pictures and are you taking the original off and a new on? Or grafting bits from both. I take it the trailer one is hydraulic as well. A 6.5hp motor probably wont be enough I think or slow cycle time. Why is yours rubbish? what are you hoping to improve?
  12. First line discredits firewood producers in the uk. Was going to quote but its probably a site that will sue Arbtalk so read for yourself. Then lots of wordiness about enjoying a day off work to go and cut an acre of willow by hand, many people dream the good life, but after a lifetime in the office, then "THE DAY!!!" sounds like blisters, aches and A&E for the non trained self sufficient wannabe lifestyler. I'd throw a twig on my burner a day with those memories. Then £1500!!!!!!! for 300 meters of weed mat(4046 sq m to an acre and the pack is for 1/4acre) and 1200 willow cuttings!!!!! no choice of starter pack size!!!!! and 4 year wait. They do say you propagate your own to be fair As said in post above nothing new, but people will buy it. Then need a forestry mulcher to deal with there invasive non native engineered species. Or if they plant somewhere with bad access, some of the non qualified uk unprofessionals will have to charge £1500+ to deal with it. It will work for someone but with a high failure rate for many,me thinks, People wouldn't burn wood if they processed it themselves. Fact.
  13. Can you set up another company, have one for commercial. The other for domestic work. Sounds complicated but could be done in a legit way. I know someone who set up another company to avoid vat and justed lumped it buying gear. Vat is a stinger at the moment though.
  14. If you do C+E its worth driving a few weeks a year, such as holidays from regular job. To replace your outlay.Don't forget every day you have off training is a days lost pay as well. Then hgv drivers have to have cpc training of 5 days in 5 years, again, and then same the next 5yrs, for the self employed and probably many employed no pay on them days . Plus all tachographs fitted from April 06 (I think) are digital which is another outlay every 5 years for digi card renewal. Calculate the true ongoing costs. I just went for C+E in the mid nineties, I didnt have theory and rigid to do 1st. However if you are definatly doing your truck don't waste money on B+E £450 is probably a cheap B+E assuming a 1st time pass. £450 is a big discount off a C1. Its useful and gives me a change of work, but I wouldn't do it if I had my time again, especially in todays persecuted driving climate. A truck driver is just regarded as a sit down labourer and rarely appreciated. Money and conditions more often than not similar to Labouring jobs without high responsibility.
  15. only needed 2 but got 4 for under £28
  16. Its not their fault iseki retail a shaft seal at £39, that costs £6-7 at bearing/seal stockists. MF are £42 for same part. Fit genuine parts go bankrupt sooner!
  17. A freeflow return is a larger coupling and wider bore pipe it can return higher flow rates returning from implement. It prevents build up of pressure which stresses levers etc and leads to leaks. Its simply a mains style drain. If you use ordinary return through spool valve you get build up of back pressure, "She's gonna blow!" scenario. I was unaware of them until last year. It rarely comes as standard on tractors ,but modern high flow hydraulic kit can cause tractor constipation of sorts.
  18. Should be a drain plug somewhere you can tap into. Have you got a parts manual with exploded diagrams?
  19. U thinking of nicking my bryce?????
  20. Rangers notorious for this , transmission not up for a lot of towing and wears out. 5th gear pops out, a friend of mine had one done under ford warranty in 1st year. Since its gone again, apart from that an excellent workhorse he says. People that deal with them regularly such as transmission reconditioners should back this up. The salesman will probably deny it.
  21. Google greymetal Contemporary wood burning stoves :: quality stoves at cheap pricesGreymetal Multifuel and Woodburning Stoves contemporary and good price made in Germany, I might get one but don't know how good they are.
  22. HGV is a expensive way as well, Initial course £s O licence £s Road tax £s MPG £s then of course the new cpc which is to be done every 5 years which is 5 days at £100 per day plus loss of earnings. It was a good idea, best way currently is tractor and trailer on just a car B category. It might be worth doing a deal with skip company if you dont want chip. Only hire skip not a driver waiting the get resale on chip. You could get favourable rate on waste removal. No hassle with regulations.
  23. I think this month the eu is making it law no homemade trailers with brakes allowed unless type approved or under 750kg gross weight.(Look up western towing news for this info.) Google landplan landscapers and look under there treework section for tractors with trailer/chipper combo. But personally I think you are making a vosa magnet. When empty versus full axle weight distribution and the nose end up or down is a big frown. It is a great idea for more reasonable times.

    Husqvarna 365 ?

Having spent full days on a 357xp and losing sleep due to carpal tunnel and tensyvitus in elbows, It made me do research, Yes the 357 is a performer, but if you look at the husqvarna website under support/vibration calculator the 365 is better for your health. Thats got to be worth alot.
  25. Yes Ive done it, used existing hole where gas fire went through ceiling, protect the walls and floor in immediate vicinity with fire resistant materials and I put a shield on lower part of flue to reflect heat back and protect wall, lived warmer than everyone we know probably. Used steel tube from stockholders instead of expensive flues. 1 piece no joints, only problem is as the air outside the caravan cools flue it cokes up the flue and needs clearing every 6 weeks or so. Therefore insulate the exterior part of the flue. My stove is an 8kw sunstove I got from ebay about 5 years ago. £129 I think, Hoping to upgrade to a stove with boiler and glass sealed door for this winter. 3 years ago I remember it being frosty outside at midnight and I was sat in my underwear with door open sweating profusely the fire went well for some reason and the metal glowed cherry red. These stoves are a bit messy and really best for an outbuilding, but you can run em on just sawdust and shavings from the wood processing. I burn just the rubbish wood I get that wouldn't be saleable. Also highly recommend you have a hole in caravan flooor or wall nearby for air supply, otherwise it will suck cold draught pass you to feed the fire with oxygen. There is a webpage somewhere which tells you how to work out hole size per kw of the burner.
