  1. Aye no hard feelings from me we all rubberneck. Just thought thread was getting victimising as it progressed, I once got swept along in the wrong lane in York city center amongst traffic in a HGV once, never saw any signs due to being surrounded by other large vehicles in around me. Thankfully It was a 4 wheeler tipper, as when I turned the corner there was one of those old bar archway things from the days of old. As I got nearer it got smaller. I folded both mirrors in and realised it was a scrape or scrape though situation. I asked a young guy to help he just upped his hands and walked off. A really doddery old bloke on 2 walking stick acted as my guide did a superb job. No contact with the monument whatsoever. Once I got front through I folded mirrors back and it was down to milimeters either side, I got away with it. Around that time someone nicked a skip truck and went through but left skip body behind.
  2. Crazy if its a mature hedge you are going to tear and snap roots really badly, unless you dig a trench either side and drag a u shaped blade through, you don't mention hedge size or how long its been planted. I work on a commercial nursery nr Hull they use a U blade to undercut rows of trees mounted on a tractor 3 point linkage. Probably good up to 4 year established hedge, they also have a cable/winched plough that you drag along featured bottom right in this link and also the 3rd left they have. Mice!!

Once stuffed a load of birdfood peanuts in my chainsaw boots, no damage though, on this occasion.
  4. Need to be careful with hardwood sawdust with poultry as it gets stuck in respiratory system, can be fatal. Shavings ok though. Softwood safer. I get bags of the stuff from firewood processing, dry it a bit wrap in newspaper and burn like brickettes, means more wood to sell and we keep warm as well. But a bit messy. If you have a woodburner in workshopWorkshop woodburner (not another bottle tho!) - MIG Welding Forum like this type with a down pipe that gets air under the sawdust It will go for hours on a fill up. Maybe an idea for a kiln Big J?
  5. Language can be different down under. Have you type assessor and used arboricultural or such fancier words. Arboricultural austrialia, an organisation that may point you.
  6. Spud this thread should read "whats gone over spuds conveyor" not bench.
  7. Prunus can't think the name but its purple leaved and has plums called Prunus (something)pisardii. Anyway sometimes it reverts from red/purple to green. I maybe wrong. Could also be self sown from this tree, hard to be certain with time of year and pictures.
  8. Not hycrack it is a major.
  9. Who hasn't gone the wrong way down a one way street or tried to get on a dual carriageway the wrong way, or a left or right turn when the sign did say no turn? Give the driver a bit of leeway. His boss would not of sent him out in a high spec truck like that if he was a total idiot. Regardless of nationality we are all human. I used to drive a truck regularly for a living for a company of about 14 trucks, all British. The damage some of them made was embarassing. On this forum its often sympathy for the poor arb guy that things didn't turn out well for and rightly so, because we realise it has its risks and errors of judgement are lifelong.. Although we should be aware of your vehicle dimensions, who can say offhand what their drive is in axle weight, gtw, length, width and height. "Hmm I think it should go through that gap" We have signs specifying these criteria.
  10. It's free, but in what ways do we benefit from Arbtalk? Make contacts, tip sites, save a fortune, learn something. Therapeutic escapism ( Stevie Blair left the real world ages ago and now lives in virtual arb bliss) Speaking for myself I've been inspired with ideas, saving time. Surf ebay less (spent less) Avoided buying rubbish gear.Gained knowledge. Become a social recluse.......
  11. As for incompetents buying saws on ebay etc then taking away work, I don't think its a real threat to good businesses. I have had work that was done by others to rectify, they don't get repeat work and the business fades away, makes clients more cautious and they tell friends and family, if anything a job done to a poor standard makes people more professional aware, they enquire for recommendations etc. Also buying a saw is the easy part, you have to develop maintainence skills or buy new chains regulary, keeping running costs down is a major player in starting out in tree work. They soon fade away and try another enterprise. Plus who wants hard work, you have to do this because you love it.
  12. Yes 1st compact tractor I ever operated. Good little solid machine, about 14hp.Built in early 80s I guess, when hydraulics were not so important and not utilised as they are now. Mainly for cultivation and pto work, grass cutting, rotovating etc. Tow hitch is poor design. To give you an idea of the hydraulic capability the nursery where I sometimes work grows trees and used the more powerful B7100 on a Damcon Bamboo cane machinery caning machine to push 10-20 diameter bamboo canes up to 30cm in the ground. The hydraulics on the B7100 was insufficient so instead a separate pto pump and tank etc (costly) was fitted and this did do the job at high revs. This year the B7100 has been replaced. I did use a much moderner iseki TF321 21hp myself with a parmeter post knocker, fencing and this was less than Ideal for cycle rate. Even with a screw type log splitter this tractor could stall. This is my experience's and I assume you want to process faster and do larger pieces than you would with an axe. Will be interested how you get on. I use a Bryce suma post knocker on a case 4230 tractor which couldn't lift the post knocker, I had a pair of lift arms shortened only a few inches and later fitted an auxillary lift ram kit. Now Im using it on an 84hp tractor when the minimum recommended is 100hp. So you may get round this, I wish you well.
  13. I have same trailer, you could take tailgate off its only 2 bolts lose that weight, mount at back with a release mechanism to slide and lock in middle when empty and detach when usiing as plant trailer. Or mount at back and fold into trailer laid down over axles.
  14. Also take in to account elastic twang back at the climber maybe.
  15. Coniferous brash should sort it. Why the goat though? N.Z has plenty of sheep or a pig. Next health and safety will be. 1. Ensure climbing operatives are secured on ropes. 2. Don't allow a chipper to operate at same time as aerial work is being done. Sadly this may end up being the case because, even the groundie is so much better when he is a good one you trust. There would never be a problem hardly if they are good. However a random indifferent labourer is the real problem.
  16. I think thats procedure, I was the only witness to an artic leaving the road in front of me, was asked loads of questions. Afterwards I sounded like a truck spotting nerd. My statement went something like this. "I saw the vehicle, a blue 2 tone daf or foden(truck was stuck in a hedge driver colapsed at wheel) 6x2 articulated tractor unit pulling a tri axle bulk insulated tipping trailer with a blue body leave the road in front of me. I would never describe a vehicle like that, but the officer asked me what type of truck is it? What sort of trailer is it? etc. It only dawned on me when I verified my statement later, It was longer than any English assignment I ever did at school.
  17. On a smaller scale in a village nearby many years ago, a rough living neighbour who never washed himself, stole his neighbours firewood as required. The victim drilled a couple of logs and emptied gunpower out of cartridges in the holes and resealed the holes. A few days later the bloke that never washed walked round the village looking rather sooted up. Those were the days when police could be more hands on and not human rights. I bet the blast was a laugh to see.
  18. Dropping a portuguese laurel(Prunus lusitanica) this week, a shrub I know, but this is 2 storeys high and has two trunks over 1ft diameter. Going for firewood if no interest. Located Hull.
  19. It seems they are too expensive and everyone makes their own.
  20. Sugar beet/fodder beet bucket on a front loader.
  21. I run a tractor myself and pull over, then when I get fed up of no thanks. I do a big wave and head nod at one, then its suprising how many follow the example of the 1st victim, you could end up with arm ache. On friday night I followed a crop sprayer for 8 miles, he never pulled over and due to traffic and the daft speed limits we have these days and unbroken lines on route you couldn't overtake. He passed at least 5 good laybys. Thats ignorance Im not party to. I don't like my day being messed up and don't mess others peoples days up
  22. Can we collect them to save the hassle of carriage?
  23. You will still be fixing chainsaws in decades to come Steve, when we want the ecu's modding on our button start electronic intel saws.
  24. A bit of elm drilled and knocked on to dowel to save tapping file handle on teeth after sharpening. Got fed up off tatty file handle. File shown for size, Its like playing a xylophone now easier and quicker.
  25. Worth checking about bio security, they may fugimate or at worse take your kit off you. Worth checking, If you have good new kit I would leave it at home and acquire out there if bio is a problem.
