  1. Big news in Inverness: https://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/news/police-investigate-overturned-car-250010/ "The area was taped off and cones were placed around the vehicle." That will do.
  2. I'm not sure if the hydraulic tip is that good or not, it seems like an extra thing to go wrong, extra weight, and extra cost. Bare in mind a muck truck is manual steer, so if you can't tip it manually you won't be able to steer it anyway. I think the main advantage of hydraulic tip would be for a halfway tip - spreading material out.
  3. What about a flying wind turbine Kite power technology reaching new heights in Shetland WWW.PRESSANDJOURNAL.CO.UK The strong wind speeds of Shetland are being used by an inventor to develop innovative technology to generate electricity using kites. I reckon very soon there will be a glut of vans (and particularly self built campers) for sale, the "staycation" bubble will burst
  6. Still waiting for my first ripe tomato of the year, and that's in the greenhouse One of the apple trees planted in march this year has 2 lovely looking apples on it already, think that one is an Arthur Turner.
  7. As above, kaaz are good Thought you had quite a bit of grass, have you looked at wider mowers, or a robot?

    Jokes???

A Taliban fighter, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the oasis only to find a British soldier selling regimental ties. The Taliban asked, "Do you have water?" The soldier replied, "There is no water, the well is dry. Would you like to buy a tie instead? They are only £5." The Taliban shouted, "You idiot infidel! I do not need an over-priced tie. I need water! I should kill you, but I must find water first!" "OK," said the soldier, "It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that, and that I am a much better human being than you. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find our Sergeant's Mess. It has all the ice cold water you need. Inshallah." Cursing him, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he staggered back, collapsed with dehydration & rasped: "They won't let me in without a f**king tie!”
  9. 8.30pm is absolutely fine for me, more of a chance of getting hold of me than during the day! In the summer months with the long evenings I'm often outside working on something til gone 11pm anyway. A few weeks ago I got woken up by a potential customer texting at 1am which was a bit much

    Jokes???

I never knew rollerskate racing was a thing, but it makes a good spectator sport
  11. I'm more kind of the opinion, if you garden is big enough to produce such regular waste, it's big enough to have a compost heap of a suitable size
  12. Yeh, and that's people who currently have a licence, so this change wouldn't affect them? Maybe trailer licences should be more like a motorbike cbt then? A day's training which is then valid for a few years?
  13. Not read the whole thread, but since Nigg was mentioned in the first post; There was an interesting programme on the telly tonight about Nigg It seems a huge number of local guys now aged 60-80 worked at Nigg at somepoint, lots of great stories you hear. The money was bonkers at it's height, weekly wage many times what you'd get in any other local work. Most of it probably spent on drink ! Sounds like to get a job all you had you do was turn up at the yard gates and pester them. Busses running from every town and village, 24hrs, 3 shifts a day BBC Scotland - Rigs of Nigg WWW.BBC.CO.UK The story of how over 5,000 men came together to create oil platforms in the North Sea.

  16. The last I heard, probably a good month ago, good spruce was higher than larch, at about £130/ton - in the north of Scotland
  17. Better to play it safe and just talk about the weather. "Not too bad a day today eh?" - as you're getting battered in the face by a blizzard
  18. Payrise I wonder how many have a HGV licence but don't drive for a living as they get paid better doing other jobs? Also the whole cpc thing, where instead of being out driving trucks, you sit experienced HGV drivers infront of a computer all day to learn first aid for the tenth time, or how to use a ratchet strap.
  19. ^Was going to say, your gooseberries seem later than ours!
  20. Nothing wrong with a fire if it's done well (safe and hot). Carbon neutral innit. Chipping or carting material away will burn a lot more fossil fuels. Ideally they should have informed the fire brigade to save them wasting their time and coming out when there was no need.
  21. Astra25, you should fill in your location, always interesting to compare different parts of the country

    Jokes???

A good way to teach the kids Archimedes’ Principle! There's probably only a few litres of water in that pool!
  23. There's no driver shortage, only a wage shortage. £10 an hour, away all week, and you could spend half a day just sat waiting in a supermarket distribution centre bored out of your mind
  24. I wouldn't have a smart meter, it's of no benefit to me. I'm sure the day will come when it will no longer be optional. I don't think we've had a meter reader call round for a few years now anyway!
