  1. Every time you find a phone that sounds up to the job, you keep reading, and find something wrong with it. AGM M6 sounded good AGM M6 Rugged Feature Phone WWW.AGMMOBILE.COM AGM M6 Rugged Phone Unlocked, 4G LTE Dual SIM Phone with 35mm Super Speaker, IP68/IP69K Waterproof, AT&T... But then I read somewhere the text message memory is only 200 messages, which would be hopeless
  2. Used to have a Sony Ericsson k750i back in the day! That was a good phone.
  3. Get yourself some ducks, they eat slugs, and lay eggs

    Overloaded

Again, not overloaded, but 2 teenage lads caught on the dual carriageway in tractors (used for xmas trees I think), no rear lights visible https://www.facebook.com/HighlandIslandsPoliceDivision/photos/pb.289541280823.-2207520000../10158101764130824/?type=3&eid=ARCJ8ChMUprhAhfiqFDp_xouCIKVSwXywopYElmdKYf4Gv45gqJolSEticV6d2knZOOZzdbZnkNEZq5Q
  5. Does that mean all pre-97 licence holders will now be uninsured for towing a trailer, as they haven't done any training either? What about vans/pickups/4x4s/campers/tippers etc. Most people will have passed their driving test in a small front wheel drive petrol car, and never had any training in anything bigger. Insurers will always find a way out of paying for claims, or increasing premiums.
  6. After nearly 7 years of abuse my aldi rugged mobile phone is nearing the end of it's life. Don't need a smartphone. Needs to be tough as old boots. 2 features I would like if possible (which the aldi phone doesn't have) are predictive text and better camera
  7. I liked the truck the guy was selling previously on ebay under a different name, £32k! Says on the sunvisor "caution tree vehicle making frequent stops" so must be legit.
  8. Interesting thread, we don't have central heating either. I wonder if you were starting from scratch, and had the upfront ££££ (which we don't really), would you not be tempted by a system with less human input, incase you're sick/injured/away for the weekend/wife at home on her own. Maybe ground or air source heat pump, and solar pv to run some of it. Maybe large storage tank, or batteries. Then you can still run the stoves when you please for extra heat.
  9. This sad accident happened back in 2019, when I saw the photo of the lorry at the time, I did wonder if that was the case Chloe Morrison: Pedestrian killed in Drumnadrochit lorry crash WWW.BBC.CO.UK Pedestrian Chloe Morrison, 26, was struck by a lorry in the Highlands on Friday afternoon. Lorry driver accused of causing woman's death WWW.BBC.CO.UK Nursery teacher Chloe Morrison was allegedly struck by an unsecured part of the lorry.
  10. Who would want to be a social worker, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't
  11. I think never a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket. A few trees down, but we didn't get the storm bad here, no loss of electricity. 11yrs ago (when I still lived with my folks), the winter with the bad snow, we were without electricity for 5days, annoying but no big deal. There's been some right moaners on the radio etc lately. If we lost power now, I reckon we would cope fine. Main form of heating is a stove anyway. Got heaps of candles stashed away. Plenty of torches/rechargeable worklights. Small solar and 12v battery systems that can run 12v lights and have usb chargers. A load of old large 12v batteries. 240v and 12v generators. 240v inverter and diesel night heater on a van. Couple of gas camping stoves. Ghillie kettle. etc Power cuts are a fact of life.
  12. You feel like, no matter how much you pressure wash that, you're still going to wreck a few chains Make a good stumpery!
  13. I don't know the Ivecos, never had one (they sound good though), I wonder did they do different axle ratios when new? They had that with the Transits, atleast the mk6-7 2000-2014, you got a "towing" axle.
  14. I was hearing a local estate now has 15 automowers; Husqvarna Automower® maintains impressive Dochfour estate, Inverness | Husqvarna UK WWW.HUSQVARNA.COM Inverness’ Dochfour House Credits Husqvarna Automower® For Lush Estate Lawns One of the photos has stripes in one of the lawns, so I assume they must put a roller over it now and then.
  15. I think if you had a lot of your own grass to cut, the first thing to look at would be robotic, much cheaper to run?
  16. How many taxpayers does it take to change Bulb into a profitable company?.
  17. You can't buy happiness, you gotta do a job that you enjoy. I would've thought if you were a good welder/fabricator/engineer type you could make a decent living, either working for yourself as a one man band, or for a firm. Mobile Fabricator - Rise Technical WWW.RISETECHNICAL.CO.UK Mobile Welder Inverness £30,160 (OTE £41,500) + Overtime + Van + Fuel Card + Training + Progression + Holiday + Pension...
  18. A thousand hours on a machine, that's only what, 3-5 months?
  19. If you've got the knowledge of pruning fruit trees from a commercial orchard I would think that would be a skill that could earn some money

Don't know current prices, but I heard earlier this year that spruce sawlogs were about £130/ton
  21. To be honest for diy at home lidl/aldi would be fine, this disadvantage with them is the battery system is more likely to change so you might not be able to get more batteries or tools in the future. For good quality power tools I usually use Toolstop (based by the m74 near Glasgow). Always very good service and delivery to the Highlands. Like most places, they've had issues getting stock since covid, as soon as anything comes in it sells out. Toolstop | Power Tools and Hand Tools for Professional Trades WWW.TOOLSTOP.CO.UK Toolstop offers professional power tools and hand tools deals for the trade, Klarna finance, free next day delivery to the UK and first class customer service
  22. I've got one of the older Nightsearcher Trio LED and they're a good hardy torch, large size so easy to find, great for long distance, but hopeless for anything close up ie under 10m. Nightsearcher are a decent brand, used by police/railways etc
  23. This thread would be better in one of the more frequented general sections., If you like a bit of diy you can make your own; >Solar panel of whatever size you like >Charge controller >12v battery. I rummage through the piles at the scrappy with a multimeter looking for large batteries in good shape. Truck/tractor/leisure batteries. He is cheap as chips and when they wear out you can sell them back and get your money back! >12v DC PIR sensor >12v lights of whatever style you chose Another question would be what is a security light, will there be anyone there to see it come on? Is it more secure to have the yard in total darkness, so thieves can't see what they are doing, (maybe with a few trip hazards!) and any torch is very obvious to anyone watching? Or motion activated lights, but no one pays any attention to them, and creates areas with dark shadows for the thieves to hide in? And they never seem to come on/stay on when you want them!! Or have the whole yard brightly lit all the time, so any intruder can be seen, with nowhere to hide? I don't know which of the 3 above is least appealing to potential thieves?
