  1. Shocking issue. Free horses to good homes? BBC News - 'Fly grazing' ponies under threat in Monks Wood, Wick
  2. Purchase a paintball machine gun (legal) and hide between the ISO's and have some fun when he arrives. Do erect "Private Land" "Keep Out" signs before hand.
  3. Sleeps in the warm wooden kennel outside but has been into the house so is aware of the place in case of issues. When we took the puppies to training were told to never allow them onto seats/beds/sleeping on the landing due to future control. Having read some of the comments I am sure we are doing the correct method. (no fleas/worms/bad breath and hound smells in the bedroom)
  4. Where is the list of who won so we can post a prize we donated to them? Thanks. Well done to all.
  5. Seeing the large amount of firewood that is stolen from hard working small business perhaps a "Firewood Watch" might be a good idea. The Police and local councils take it much more serious if a group of people approach them with concerns and often monies are available to help with catching thieves and securing/marking property including chainsaws. I was in the local farm watch and this did help with the issue of diesel/bales vanishing. I do not want to mention more details on an open forum. There are two sorts of people that steal firewood from personal harsh experience and talking to the crime prevention teams. 1. The Public:- This is often during normal working times and weekends when the firm is closed and having purchased a wood stove think firewood should be available free as the tree firm has been paid for felling the trees and the wood is waste materials. 2. Professional Thieves:- These steal the wood both in a length form and in bulk sacks for sale direct to wholesalers and the public through small adverts.
  6. Tree planting as it's so mild from bags we have grown the seeds in. Packed up this afternoon when several large trees landed close due to the wild winds on site. Will see if I can upload the pics from the phone.
  7. We all know the "scum" that are stealing from small business all the time as a form of living and it's time to write to local MP's and the Home Office stating that if the Police will not take serious action to stop this then people will do it themselves. The scrap metal taken into places is paid in cash so often avoiding taxes and is a form of monies laundering.
  8. Interesting pictures of work clearing and maintenance of rural paths. We used to do loads until the council gave the contracts to the BTCV. (one full time paid person and a van load of free people allowed to work more than 16hrs a week and claim dole) Need some more herds of Ramblers to keep the footpaths worn after the strimming:laugh1: It is common in this area for gardens/fences to "expand" onto the paths which should be wide enough for a horse and cart as most are old bridleways. How do you manage to survive and afford being a free full time volunteer instead of being paid for all the hard work?
  9. One of the brother's in law is and runs a public house in the centre of Macclesfield. We went to see him over Christmas and someone had supplied the worse logs I have seen for a long time. (sold in yellow ton bags as a cubic metre and all unsplit pieces of recent felled Leylandii with branch lugs on) He was also sold normal coal to burn in a smokeless zone. Nightmare to light!! Hope it is not someone on the forum?
  10. NFU and Police said most go to Ireland and Poland. I am staggered how much goes through with little real checking of serial details. Ships do not like waiting.
  11. I would check the wind loadings with lightweight poles and PVC materials. Planning Permission depends on intended use and how long the building will be there.
  12. Mick Wright would make you some and at a reasonable price.
  13. What tyre pressures do you run the Mog and trailers at off road? Wide singles would be more suitable than duals on bearings and costs unless find some cage wheel in Farmers Guardian.
  14. It's turned cold again and with the moon out.
  15. Monday is normal office time but was due to the forecast planting hundreds of trees in nice sunshine until dark. Weather from last night until now has been terrible but stuck inside doing paperwork. Seen on the news loads of trees down that were covered in Green Ivy which acts as a large wind sail.
  16. That's terrible news. Was it chained to the van? If so might be able to claim on vehicle insurance depending on the firm.
  17. The title said "What Rope". so I thought someone might be looking who could advise. Strong response to suggest that above.
  18. Have you tried Lester Lowes outside Ashbourne for used ones? If you had the pallets returned from customers when delivering the next batch of firewood then worth making some good new ones. There is a place I know who make them and at good prices. We had some and were strong enough for gritstone lumps and have lasted a long time.
  19. Does someone know of a source of hessian ropes?
  20. I also have used a small sharpening wetstone. Little fuss and risk of cutting too deep.
  21. Does that mean if I take purchased food in wrappings and plastic bags for use at lunchtime then to take it back to be recycled I would need a waste carriers licence? Some of the licence wording is open to different people to make own decisions. The rules are being made up with office people who have no idea on the tree/farm work and possible wastes. Numerous Ford Transits around before last week collecting scrap metal with no signs/no load netting/overladen/no doubt with no waste licence but the local council and Police/VOSA appear to allow bending of the rules for certain people. All paid in cash at the weighbridge!!
  22. Britain was a pagan society for a very long time before Christians arrived on these shores and imposed religious views on people. Now UK/GB is claimed to be a open multi cultural society? Too much PC in current work and leisure!! (the unlicenced scrap metal collectors have taken to disturbing the peace with a loud hailer system including on Sundays and the council said could not stop them as claimed being racist towards them).
  23. Compressed sawdust and horse poo burns a long time and leaves little ash. In Africa dried cow poo is often burned in fires. I would have a wooden zero heat home if possible in the future like the one built in Scotland we looked at in summertime.
  24. Use a chainsaw flat file.
  25. I was interested to know if one had two teams working close will there be issues on the channels. Is the face microphone movable so it does not become snagged on branches/ropes? Can the connection system be used on all brands of helmets? Thanks in advance.
