  1. An accident looking for somewhere to happen. Time local councils and the HSE started closing down firms like this for breaking laws. Problem with all those signs on the vehicles makes them look like a decent business to the public. In 20+ years I have never seen someone oiling a chainsaw like that!!
  2. I had spoken in much detail to HMRC about having the fuel tax on chainsaw fuels reduced to that of Agricultural Diesel and it said would consider but needed a method to trace sales. There are two firms (a third considering producing and testing at present) who make Green chainsaw fuels which could be delivered direct and sold for this use and traced. HMRC said if enough people wrote then would do this so I am checking the name and address. I had asked years ago all the APF/AA/FCA/FC........... to help but response was very poor and unhelpful comments!! It would make a huge difference to all cutters/self-employed and the prices we have to earn on sites. I would like to know how many people are working in Agriculture/Forestry/Horticulture/Arboriculture in the UK and Ireland?
  3. Well worth going to with numerous interesting stands and loads of free food tasting and for those not driving:001_rolleyes: booze testing of homemades. Pigs/Goats/Chickens/Ducks breeds.
  4. Like this?
  5. We have some and the wine this time was between 18% and 22%!! Do you want a dry or sweet Birch version?
  6. It's the full moon and the cool weather. Some gone here this week.
  7. I was told can fill one 20Ltrs Metal/Plastic and should be Red - Leaded. Green - Unleaded. Black - Diesel. On the white plastic ones it is a max of 5Ltrs in each can to a max of 20Ltrs and should have a Red Triangle label showing Petrol/UN1203. Strict rules now since that taxi man filled all those white plastic containers and stored in the cellars where the fuel melted the base and whole street had to leave whilst fire service attended. All cans should be filled on the ground for electric static charge reasons. The person working there should speak good English and have allowed filling of the approved can. The same hassle often happens with these new refillable gas cylinders on the LPG system.
  8. Michelin XM47's and Conti E6's but no idea on the size used? Good on the road and hard wearing but still useful in snow and rough conditions. Aircraft, agricultural and 4x4 tyres. huge stock
  9. Small sections inside a metal tin to make drawing charcoal. Large sections in the normal kiln but like pine it does break down when moved around. Worse is the bagging process where one will look like coal miners but above ground.
  10. I have had one of the work times when all goes ................. at least the weather was nice and loaded up with hundreds of small trees this evening. I need a wooden cabin moving from Tamworth area to Matlock area (A5/A38/A6) and it's 16' L and 12' W and 10' H to live in instead of a tent whilst this Norwegian blah blah continues. Tried several haulage firms and no one can do................ SOS HELP! as not much time until the 30th March.
  11. Husqvarna 240R and has run well over hundreds of hours. New versions have heated handles and can turn the handles to store access difficult sites. I had considered a backpack version as often on steep banks now.
  12. There was a different posting elsewhere on this forum about councils doing private work and it was mentioned that one could hire machines from the local council works.
  13. The Alstor 8x8 is now £45,000 + VAT. Oh Er!! I would check and see expected service lifespan and fuel use compared to value of contacts/wood moved and see the viable side of a purchase. Little Japanese/Italian pivot steer mountain tractors would be more cost effective and can be used for Agricultural work. FC/FE did some work on small machines compared to large draught horses and the animals with custom tools worked more out viable longterm. (purchase cost/insurance/work life span/servicing costs/wood moved/fuel-feed/end of life value)
  14. Used to do 60-80 but as children grew wanted more time with them and worked out that not much more progress and funds doing all hours. So now have most weekends to do leisure/hobbies and switch off from work. At least being Self-Employed the weekend could be middle of a week to attend WRC.
  15. Local council hire from a different posting if correct?
  16. Sounds interesting but then as an issue HSE should have mentioned needed? A stem from high in the crown has more force than falling from a horse/motorbike and riders still have permanent damage/deaths with protection. Take time when felling to be 100% safe as rushing is the main cause of accidents.
  17. Swimming ponds are good as no planning permission needed and relaxing.
  18. Yes expensive and where it's sited being miles from the nearest landfill and on stone mountain terrain. No idea how it arrived as there before we came and none seen in the area. I assume like most spray works done when leaves are out full in the morning with no dew and no rain forecast. Is there a certain size of syringe used for this that does not block up?
  19. The Scottish Midge Forecast Light coloured clothing works better than dark. Nice area of Scotland.
  20. OK Does burning work to kill growth and heat the roots system as I am told 1cm of root will make more plants.
  21. How about steaming the roots and a bug that was introduced to munch as methods I was told work? It's about 10' x 10' area and needs to be done now to avoid spreading.
  22. Here are the pictures when as new machine and before the current painting when we then owned. Still must be somewhere as was stolen to use at a time when scrap prices were poor!! REWARD leading to return in working condition and the name of the B*****Ds who stole. We have good idea.
  23. Some advice on a small area of Japanese Knotweed as to current suitable methods to kill on site without soil removal to a difference place. There are animals and people who have access and no idea how it arrived as we have not worked on sites with this before. Thanks.
