  1. Cutting speed, a 36" bar on a 95cc saw is too slow. Guess it's just been from what i've taught and people i've worked with, 90cc saw, max 30" bar. 25" is ideal. Chris
  2. Going to get a Sugihara bar for an upcoming purchase of a 395XP (G - if i can find one!) I assume - corrections welcome, that the 395 is a D009 bar mount, i have a 24" Husky bar that'll live on it most the time til i change it. I'm of the mindset of running shorter bars on bigger saws, MS660 on a 25" for example So i'm considering what other bar to have, Sugi do a 28" and a 36", the bar just be for bigger fells rather than an everyday bar. So do i - Run the 24 - poor quality, as are most standard Husky bars and replace it when it's shot and get a 36" for felling/bucking or Get a 28" Sugi and just get on with it when the need for a larger bar arises. Advice here please. Cheers, Chris
  3. Heard he was the first, also helped write the ISO9001 & 14001 standards.
  4. Name of the book?
  5. All well and good but in the small window of editing the saw operator did he went form using pushing chain to pulling, no reason not to from the start... No helmet, no effective use of chainbrake, walking revving saw, cutting through right side of hinge. I'm thinking the use of bottlejack will be the least of this pair's worries.
  6. Any advance on 'North Suffolk', nearest town or whatever...just wanting to see how far away it'd be, i'd travel though!
  7. Well they didn't open the gates til 9am so a bit of blame to be laid at the feet of the organisers?!
  8. Suppose it depends on which one i work for, i do contracts from some of the companies...or just sub in to others, making me both? Or having the options to be both?
  9. feet first - Europe's leading outdoor walking and climbing boot repair service - Feet First AMAZING quality, mine were re done with a Lowa Vibram sole, looks like new. £60 with a boot freshen/odour killer thing done!
  10. Pretty unfair, you sound like a reasonable chap, but that's not a reasonable comment, there are, and i count myself as one of them bonafide subcontractors out there, who pay tax, keep books and will happily show tax returns if needs be. I get my income from around 4 different employers who i have varying amounts of work from, the latest being around an 8 week contract. We are out there! Chris
  11. All the above sounds fair, i charge £85 a day for grounding but i am pretty much always busy, booked til March currently. I do however have 30,31,32,38,39 and Chipper ticket, a good eye for reductions, experience and willingness to graft...just trying to get on.
  12. Sounds exceptionally fair. I'd go for it if it were offered. BUT i have more tickets and experience so i prefer my SE lifestyle/cash benefits!
  13. You'd be best talking to someone like Dick Leigh who have no vested interest in selling you a saw that'll be nowt but problems!

Yeah, i see your point, but no-one ever expects to pay MSRP, it's a completely unrealistic sum of money. And yes, i see your point, it WOULD pull a 25" bar, but here's a good example, i was running a MS660 on an 8 tooth sprocket felling 4 foot Beech, it had a slight lean and i only just chased the cut out fully when it started to go. And that's a MUCH faster saw than the 460, horses for courses as they say. A 660 is the better saw in hardwood, i use the 460 on an 18 or 20 for snedding up and delimbing.

£1000 new?! F R Jones sell them for £747 delivered... Also, my tuppence, 25" bar on a 460 is too slow, that's 660 territory, more power!!
  17. No worries, can't be helped with the .325, optimistic to be 3/8 on a 50cc saw! Interested in hearing more on this!
  18. TCD - good work. This is the saw you recommended in my other thread! A few questions Does it come with bar and chain? If not what bar mount does it run and would Rob D be able to source them? Any info on chain guage etc? Assuming (optimistically) that it'll be the same as my Husky! Cheers, Chris
  19. Ha, i wouldn't say so Chris, but it's noteworthy that when you do post it makes sense and is based on fact and experience rather then hearsay and utter nonsense! Your opinion is always welcome! I was really happy when i used a 560XP in beech woodland on my CS32, the instructor had one on loan and i suddenly found it glued to my hands for 4 days! It's an unbelievable saw for it's weight, the niggles with it just put me off, i can't be bothered with the hassle if i get a bad one! Cheers for the insightful responses! Chris
  20. That Dolmar looks like a serious contender on balance, thought the 510 looks a cracking saw, i'd just like something strong without porting it straight out! TCF - are these them? Home - TCF Engineering Cheers TCD!
  21. My 372 lives on an 18, up to 30" is the outside edge, the 50cc saw will be on roughly a 15" so yeah, i reckon it'll be just fine, and much more versatile. I've done a fair bit of felling of 30" beech with a 560XP on a 15" bar and that was superb! Different saws but it's nice to not have to use the 372 all day. Chris
  22. SHOTGUN! Look at that!! That looks seriously aggressive, i can't wait for the pi$$ taking from my Stihl owning employers to begin! That's grand Steve, videos this weekend with Burrell? Chris
  23. Or better than all of these, imho. Dick Leigh Chainsaw Specialist, Sales &amp Sevice in Lancashire A man who knows pretty much everything about pretty much every saw. And a good bloke to deal with! Chris
  24. It does look pretty special! And no killing it Burrell!
  25. I've done a fair bit of reading on posts by Chris Sheppard and TCD (as they have saws in this range and longer term running experience of them) but everyone is welcome to get involved in this discussion. I've umm'd and ahh'd over a new saw in the 50-60cc range. For the record i'm not interested in a Stihl, the 261 is not an option and i have a 372XP so the 362 isn't really necessary, though having a 372XP (currently being Spud ported and tuned) i want a lighter nippier saw for felling up to 30" timber. The 372 weighs in at 6.4kg so i don't want to buy a saw that comes close in weight, it's for all day use! 346XP - 5kg 357XP - 5.5kg Echo CS-500 series (though TCD, you reckon on this saw irking you, ant particular points to note) 550XP - 5.1kg - Lots of complaints, is it worth the hassle over sticking with a tried and tested older saw? Outside suggestions 560XP - 5.8kg Echo CS600/610 Let's have your thoughts! Cheers, Chris
