  1. How do i feel about Arbtalk discount ending?! It's great! I ordered a new Sugi bar, some chains and wedges from Rob and got some useful freebies! In fact only this morning i realised i'd forgotten to order an Oregon grease gun, hey presto one arrived in my order! My only question is - does Rob have Jedi mind reading skills?! Short review - Same great Chainsawbars service, free goodies!
  2. I hope so for their future customers' sake. Their after sales service was terrible, basically just sent my jacket back and said there was no problem with it, and i'm not a lone case, the name of Stein is mud amongst people work with, subcontract for and know in the industry.
  3. That's what i feared! I'm after one and the 3 litre ones just disappear! How many miles did yours have on it when you got it? Is it the one in the picture, the crewcab? What plate is that? Cheers Steve, Chris
  4. Who runs these? Do you have the 2.3TD or the 3 litre? Is the 120bhp enough to pull well with a load of chip on? Cheers! Chris
  5. But i have used Stein products, all of which have failed either on the day of first use or within 3 months (grinder guards and jacket respectively) so why should i buy more products that are sub standard? If Stein were to GIVE me a pair i'd test them fairly, but given that i now know more people who buy AirStreams and wear them than any other boot i think that speaks for itself. I've said how long i get out of a pair of Airstreams, anyone used Stein boots that long?
  6. Because the joke is Stein. Can't remember who on here said it, but the quote goes "Friends don't let friends use Stein".
  7. Is this a joke post? Stein who've been making boots for hardly any time and have a proven record of punting out rebranded produce asking the same amount of money (near enough) for boots as Meindl (who have a 300 year long heritage of fine boot making) who produce the AirStreams at £180? Bit of a no-brainer for me, i DO wear AirStreams, i've had two pairs. I get about 18 months on the original sole, the re-sole them, and get about another 18 months from the second sole. 3 years worth of boot for sub £250?! That's why i buy a quality boot. Chris

  9. Looking forward to my shiny new 3 bars! Wish i'd ordered more now!
  10. If i paid those prices for my Aspen i'd be crippled on a big job!
  11. So, 3 questions. 1) What O license do you run on? 2) Do you have 6 or 10 week checks? 3) How much do those checks cost you? Cheers, Chris
  12. No Husky vs. Stihl debate! I had an MS660, it got stolen, not interested in the 661! I will, when out of warranty, get either saw ported etc so... Other than the weight gain for 0.1Kw of power, why is the 395 so special? Husky recommend the 390 up to a 28" bar and 395 up to a 36" i can only assume this is because the 395 has more torque? Important to saw that i'll be running the replacement saw on a 28" bar. Oh, and does anyone have the part numbers for the uprated felling dogs for the 390 or 395? Cheers, Chris
  13. And if/when it goes i'll make sure to document findings and post the up here. Chris
  14. The tree is in a conservation area, BUT within a 200 metre radius there is a mature Beech, 4 semi mature Sycamores, and from the tree about 400 metres away there is a woodland that runs non stop for 4-5 miles, this has a great variation in species and age. Re: Local aesthetics, i feel this tree doesn't add to the area, obviously it is valuable in terms of biodiversity but i don't feel this loss won't be that significant given the client's drive to replant native species and in their terms 'trees for the future' planted in more appropriate places. I feel that from this discussion, and given the target assessment (striking distance of client property and 2 neighbouring properties - depending on potential direction of failure), over a driveway that essentially the risk management errs to removing this and post construction work replanting. Thanks again, Chris
  15. The situation is tricky, the tree sits right next to the proposed route of a drive, (planning accepted) ideally the client wants it out, more of a future thinking approach, their intent is to mitigate, as best they can, the loss of the tree with multiple replanting of more suitable trees in more suitable places. It is within striking distance of the house, cars will be 'targets' as will young family members. Evaluating the tree i struggle to see that it will take a reduction, at it's size the tree is predominantly scaffold. My understanding is that it causes brown rot and cubical cracking, do you have any advice of avenues of further investigation? Chris
  16. I thought it was small given the markings around the tree where it perhaps looks like there have been brackets pulled off, or fallen off(?) this was a broken bracket, possibly 1/3 of what the original size would have been, the other 2/3 of it wasn't visible anywhere. Thanks for your prompt confirmation David. Chris
  17. I had to cut it open as it's quite a dried bracket
  18. The bracket i collected isn't in good condition but here are three more photographs. Your prompt response is appreciated David! Chris
  19. One here for you three wise men, and other contributors are welcome! I saw this on Sycamore yesterday, mature tree, in reasonable vigour given size, location etc. Picture below, i noticed white marking on bark from a distance, though it may be Kretz, close inspection revealed these. I have a closer view of a bracket i removed (the one in the second picture) if that is of any further help. There are multiple, certainly 5-6 areas around the stem where this occurs in varying sizes. Thanks, Chris
  20. It was in that area yes, always an issue there, why we were extra cautious.
  21. Eyes out chaps, happening all too often lately! Some more gone on in the same area. Difficult times for anyone trying to make an honest buck. Seems it's the nicer areas that are getting hit atm Steven. I'd have been gutted if i'd had more kit on the job, that 372 would be unsaleable! Rampant item! Thanks for the responses.
  22. Thanks Dave, They were stolen from a job on Dobcroft Road, in Ecclesall. They were (as many stories go) no further than 20 feet away from us, in a back garden well away from the road. Backs turned, dragging brash and they were gone. A difficult time as it was a real investment to get the kit, always the way it goes for those who try and do stuff by the book. Chris
  23. Hoping i'd never have to have posted in here. My (new to me) MS660 has been stolen today, runs on a 30" Sugi bar, also my KM130 combi system with hedge cutter attachment went. Really gutted, i have the serial numbers if anyone has need of them but as usual i expect never to see these again. Hopefully insurance comes through. Chris
  24. Stumpgrinder?! $350 for all that hassle?!
