  3. geddon Stewie m8, hope it all works out fer ya. I'm considering an LDV double cab meself!
  4. yep i'm stihl in the dark ages and use prussiks all the time, 1 on me main line and 1 on either me steel core flip line or short'ish side strop. I did buy a hitch climber setup at the APF last year and it's still in the packaging ! I had a play on a Lockjack (i tink) and a pulley saver and i struggled with the odd feeling of not having enuf friction. Even when i climb with a prussik and use a cambium saver the lack of friction seems to make my prussik lose it's bite on the line and this disconcerts me. Long vertical hauls kill me but for day to day climbing i'm ok on a prussik, but i need to learn the more efficient ways.
  5. sum yoke alright.
  6. I had an old fairly girthy 70' oak to take down last week, narrow access around the side of a house but with plenty of room in the garden to work. 2 udder outfits quoted on a rigging/dismantle into the garden and hand balling all the brash/rings out thru the tight side access but i approached the landowner of a field to the rear of the property and asked if i cud drop the fence and have the tree over in one hit. Bingo, i got my log merchant mate and his Dad in with tractor and trailer, Matbro telehandler (to tug the tree over and lift long heavy limbs) and his L200 with Ifor trailer. I provided Ifor trailer and a wee greenmech to chip the brash up. Quotes ranged from 2-4 days to clear the tree but we did 1 long day and got off site after clean up and refencing by 7.30pm. My mate and his Dad paid me £200 for the cordwood and main stem (i know this is worth more but we do alot of mutual back scratching for each udder so i was happy with that) and they provided all the machinery and extra labour. Win win as i made a packet and cud afford to pay my groundies double his day rate. Where possible always get big kit in to take the strain out of it. Cheers, K.
  7. Thanks alot people.
  8. Tongue in cheek there Peter as you seem to get by nicely with your big rig. Ya i reckon a 3.5 tonner makes for an easy life in alot of respects. Thanks for all the replies.
  9. I have a 25hp variant of the enjun and was wondering where i can order service items like filters etc ? Thanx
  10. I'm on grandad rights and was wondering if anything over 3.5 ton requires a tacho and an operators license along with inspections every few weeks ? Thank yew.
  11. CS100 is the answer.
  12. I do as Treequip does. Wash rope without a pillowcase at 40 degrees and it spins out most of the moisture so it can be used immediately after washing.
  13. they look good. wonder if they would fit the older Ifor trailers like my 1994 model?
  14. I'm at the same point as Orchard and run a trailer (with a wee Greenmech piggybacked onto it) and a 4X4 pickup, I chip into the trailer (leaving enuf room for the chipper to be carried) and also chip into my high sided pickup. I need to buy a 3.5 ton tipper (Isuzu Grafter, Transit etc). However i will keep my 4x4 pickup and high sided non tipping Ifor ( 10' x 5'6'' ) trailer. I have just bought a bigger 8'' chipper too. I'll see how i get on running 2 vehicles as i could sell the 4x4 pickup and buy an Astra van for more economy and towing but i loathe the idea of selling my truck ! Just gotta decide do i buy a 3.5 ton tipping vehicle or do i opt ferra 6 tonner and accept i may need to run a tacho and any associated extra inspections etc. See what pans out i guess.
  15. box section steel and plywood.
  16. well done Orchard. I bought a Bear Cat 6'' chipper last week too (too good a deal to warrant anything else really) . Reckon oil hang onto me wee Greenmech GMR100 too for the time being as it has earned me some good coin over the last 18 munts and it'll always be worth a few quid if i ever decide to sell it on. Just need a tipping Arbtruck now....
  17. tink Trad Loggers comment above was tongue in cheek and everyone is jumping to conclusions
  18. if ya got veeeehickle access then ya cud erect the tower in an Ifor Williams trailer to make moving it easy, this i do with some hedge customers.
  19. Oddly enuf i'm the busier now than i have ever been since i went self employed 18 months ago. May this year was bad for me (4 days work) but june/july so far has been gr8. If i could stay this busy till christmas then i cud buy a transit/cabstar tipper too as i'm about to upgrade to a 6'' chipper in the next couple of weeks. Really odd how it works out sometimes but who knows what the future holds huh !
  20. interesting. we had similar down here in Devon 2 weeks ago. They were selling generators and Chinese Stihl saws, folks reckon they were checking their yard out so phoned the old bill. Police/trading standards intercepted these salesmen and confiscated all of their wares due to them being 'fakes / poor quality copies'. I know one of the Trading standards guys quite well as he's from de village next to mine and he liked it when i compared the 'sting operation' to when the feds locked up Al Capone for tax evasion as they couldn't pin murder on him! Either way they got their man in the end and thas kinda how trading standards busted these Irish travellers. All that tat will probably be in a crusher now.

  22. Ok fair comment as I only do day time works and you manage that and keep busy in the dead of night too.
