  1. i once had the rear window smashed on a car, years ago. it was some local yobs, they drove past the car and threw a brick at the window as they were driving past.
  2. Just wondered how everyone is doing with their training. I've only had mine a couple of months, but love em' to bits I certainly know when i've been using them.
  3. That stinks ! sorry to hear about it.
  4. not long ago, i was averaging about 1000 business miles per week, changed companies now down to about 120 business miles a week.
  5. whats the most anyone has towed with one of these. They're rated at 1300kg braked towing capacity. surley not. but then again i have seen one or two towing caravans.
  6. try machine mart, they do a clarke version.
  7. try screwfix, they should have them, if not any decent tool shop.
  8. Can i just turn this around a bit. I am just going thru the final stages of being crb checked etc, before starting work with someone in the public sector. The work is on an as and when basis but have been assured it will be in blocks of at least a month at a time if not more. Now the starting pay only £14k. which in truth is a struggle for me. But ! i then get holiday pay (accrued) sick pay, pension, use of equipment, all training payed for, so as far as i can see this becomes a better propersition. It is not always about the pay but about the 'Package' Also, i am going to use this as a kick up the backside and get my own business up and running in the manufacturing of gates, log stores etc. which by accepting the above position, gives me some income whilst i also try and generate my own. This country is on its knees, its time to be realistic imo, regarding work opportunities. Hope it all makes sense. cheers.
  9. Nooo ! wrong end of the stick my dear friend.
  10. as said previously, dont discount the makita range, they make a decent range. you should be able to find one to suit your needs.
  11. MMmmm !
  12. i want one, makita blue please !
  13. brilliant piece of work. really like the detailing on the legs, was it routed or sculptured.
  14. that is just so wrong !
  15. thats brilliant. although i'm a chippy by trade, i must admit i dont have half the knowledge you guys have. would love to go into milling and product making.
  16. simple and basic, nowt wrong with that, looks nice.
  17. cheers miker, i was thinking along the same lines, with the legs, stand on blocks for small stuff and concrete for taller stuff.
  18. Sorry dont understand, what is chapping ? do you mean just simply knocking the uprights into the ground.
  19. Just a quick question. When you do decking,do you either A) set your uprights in concrete B) stand your uprights on paving slabs or is there another way of doing it. This part always stresses me out as to which way is best. I have only done a few simple ones in the past, but have started to get asked more and more and instead of turning them down, i'm going to start doing them. Also do you screw the boards ( i do ) or use paslode nails for the quickest. Any other advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  20. didnt jonsie sort some female fitting gear out for someone the other week.
  21. My main job is joinery, and always will be. But as you all know when its quiet its always handy to have many extra strings to your bow. I'm experienced in hgv 2 and various flt, so i thought i might try tractors as well. Ben, i think i'm a bit too old (41) to start a completely different carreer path. Maybe i'm just better of just getting round to starting my gate making business and see how it goes. cheers.
  22. on my allottment !!!
  23. Can i just add, that i was thinking of doing it, instead of being stuck on the motorway in a hgv. Oh, and i'm 41 with experience in other plant ie telescopic flt. construction work is a rarity these days, so instead of hgv i was thinking of tractors.
