  1. And yes, sub the climbing out when you can, I’m 40 and still enjoy it, but purely because I pick and choose which jobs I wanna climb on,
  2. It’s been pretty quiet here on enquiries past few weeks, but I’m sure I have similar every year, get down to the last couple of days of booked in work then the phone goes nuts! Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! But yeah, it is stressful.
  3. Ok, as a caravan dwelling type myself I’m not keen on being gassed to death. Hence I think he’s a dickhead.
  4. Putin get his just desserts? How so? The only people that are gonna get shafted are the ones on the ground, have you seen the state of their infrastructure? Kids getting killed to give putin a telling off, yeah, go team america!
  5. Yeah can’t wait for thousands of civilians to be killed in a USA/Russia dick swinging contest,
  6. I really like that Stafford style, really really nice looking hedge! You’ve a rare talent
  7. Ooofff, that’s a beaut! Makes my 4x4 iveco mewp look like the proper runt of the litter!
  8. Those seem to be the biggest on 4x4 chassis, I’ve not seen one bigger anyway.
  9. I wonder if the arrival of the small top handle saws has had much impact on silky sales? Since getting a 150 a few years back my silky never sees the light of day.

    Spikes

I’ve got ally geckos ?, life’s too short to scrimp on something you are gonna be in for half your climbing career, that 100 you save will seem very inconsequential when your chogging down with a 088 and your feet shins and calves are being tortured by crap spikes!
  11. Same as difflock! So nice to see some work with obvious pride and love of the job!
  12. Ha, I go for r4 today programme on drive to job, bit of r1 through the day and generally r6 on drive home. Or 5sx if there’s a test match or one dayer on. Couldn’t live without digital radio in the truck!
  13. True, but it’s when you start blurring the lines between running your own show as well as freelancing that it gets tricky, £150 a day goes nowhere if you’ve got pl/el chipper and other overheads (which is of course not your main contractor s problem). But even so even as a pure freelancer £150 is quite tight IME
  14. Yo, think I’ve done about 4 days as a subbie in the past 6 months, and that was for £190, Just me, saws, rigging kit. Going out with transit and chipper is about £300. However if I got desperate I would still go out at £150. (Just me). Luckily my works steady at the mo.
  15. Probably 15/16 years ago I was getting £90 Pd se as a pretty good climber, crept up to 120 then £150 for last couple of years, occasionally subbie climb if my stuffs v slow, but get £190 now. ( that’s pretty much off one firm, it’s a lot but I can’t be arsed otherwise!)
  16. Hmm, we planted a load of big cherry laurel s that Had hessian and wire, supplier told me to leave them as they were, hopefully they’ll be alright!
  17. That is absolutely spot on!
  18. If your happy to work round that way I do a fair bit round Shepton mallet with landowners who are very sensitive to ground damage, probably 1.5 hrs from cullompton
  19. You’ll be close to my work areas so will defo give you a shout if the right jobs turn up
  20. I’ve had one tree related insurance claim, we were rolling logs down a bank into a pile on the drive, the one log that bounced over the pile hit a postie van that pulled up at that exact moment, would it have made any odds if I’d not had a saw ticket? Was stupidity on my part as opposed to lack of certification! Insurance paid out with no quibble (Tree Surgeon Insurance were the company)
  21. There’s no doubt that the real wronguns are the supermarkets driving prices into the floor, but farmers quite often don’t do themselves any favours, the amount of hangers and branches left in the road after they’ve been hedge cutting round (right, I’m going to stop here as I’ve had one too many gins!).
