  1. Love the old Land Cruiser, proper four wheel drive! Hope you're not going to bling it up!!
  2. Just remember at the end of the day it is a 17 year old vehicle so give it a thorough going over.
  3. Sorry to hear that Varty, unfortunately the scumbags who do this have no conscious that they are stealing some ones livelihood, you're insured so they'll be back for the newer kit!! Hope this cheers you up!
  4. Searched the threads for pick up insurance this morning and found this one recommending Aviva. Went online but because I use the truck for deliveries I had to ring them. 55 mins later, I have taken out a policy with them at £328.10 for SD&P and business use, full homestart and breakdown recovery, trailer use, and I can drive other vehicles third party. Present insurer Commercial Vehicle Direct wanted £460 plus £60 for breakdown cover. Thank you Arbtalk for saving me nearly £200!!:001_smile:
  5. Definately spend a bit more and get a good pair of boots. The chainsaw wellies are not comfortable and feel quite numb on your feet.
  6. My friend just bought a brand new HiLux and had that converted and is insured through NFU (but he is a farmer as well as firewood merchant).
  7.:lol: We should have a big LIKE button on arbtalk for Bolamisms!
  8. Long way from you but Jacksons of Morpeth in Northumberland have a selection for sale.
  9. Class tyres there Dean - Michelin XCLs!! Had a brand new set on a 90 many years ago - fantastic off road, could be a bit scary in the wet on road and my mate always had a cuppa made when I pulled up because he said he could hear me coming for miles!! If you are not going to use them, advertise them for sale as the ex military LR people are quite often after them. I sold some a while back and got more than I had paid for them, even after using them.
  10. Where the heck you been for the last two years???? Apparently 31 Dec this year production line stops, and rumour is 1 Jan 2016 Tata start dismantling the plant to recommence producing 110s in India. Therefore the prices of second hand ones are going up and dealers are blinging them up to the nines and just charging ridiculous money - Nene Overlands latest 110 double cab is £118k - from the list of extras fitted there must be a huuuuge profit margin in that but as they have stated they have no idea what mpg the 5 litre V8 does as their clients are so loaded they dont care, they can probably get away with it. I saw some of these tarted up Defenders at Billing last year and I wouldnt thank you for one. The leather dashboard just looked quite comical - like a leatherette cover had been put over the dash.
  11. Thanks for the replies guys. My friend is now sorted, although they didn't have any flue in stock - and the factory is out of stock too so 10 working days to supply!
  12. My mate has installed two Eco Angus boilers and has been recommended to use 300mm flue pipe - but the quote came in at £2500 plus vat!!! Can anybody recommend any suppliers, preferably in the north east??
  13. You'll probably get ten different answers to this from ten different people but here's my two penneth! I cut logs to 10inch length and reckon there is approx 340 logs in my 1.1 cubic metre loose pick up load. When stacked this is about 0.7 of a cubic metre. I would reckon you would get more cut logs stacked in the shed than stored loose in dumpy bags. I hope this is of some use!
  14. Ha ha, don't worry mate, you'll get used to Jons turn of phrase soon enough!!
  15. When I was in Canada, I remember my cousin, who is a Chevrolet man, stating the best bits on a Dodge were the engine - which are Cummins - and the transmission - made by Allinson!!
  16. Ha ha, you're probably not far wrong there Jon!!
  17. Been following this guys build on Expedition Portal - it's Ford F450 with an International engine and transmission. The rear pick up bed was removed and a custom frame made to which the storage boxes have been added. One cool looking truck...in my view!
  18. You could try Peter Stenner of the Woodfuel Barn at High Spen. He has a towable Binderberger and processed some oversize for me last November.
  19. Elfinwood saws on here ran one of these for a while. Think carrying capacity is still limited though.
  20. 1989 GMC PICKUP V3500 1 TON 4x4 V8-379ci 6.2L DIESEL - FIRE TRUCK | eBay I remember Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade got three of these in the 80s. A friend of mine used to drive one and said the biggest problem with them when fully loaded with all the gear and water was they were very very hard to steer round corners!
  21. And aren't ag registered vehicles just meant to go from land you own to land you own within a specified distance???
  22. I would have thought a van was more secure. The tailgate on my 2007 Ranger does not lock and the top tailgate on the Truckman canopy is not very secure either. I know a friend just bought a brand new HiLux and that did have a lock on the lower tailgate.
  23. Looks good Peter. Keep them coming
  24. Not sure if this is true. My friend is an owner operator with a hook loader truck which goes to local garage every 6 weeks for checks. If they find anything wrong, it has to be put right, he doesn't get an option, they just replace or repair. When MOT time comes, they have the truck for 2 to 3 days as they go over it with a fine tooth come as if it fails the MOT it is a black mark against them. I know the MOT test alone cost him £700+ and a new tyre was £300 so it is not cheap running a truck. Most people have said they know hauliers who are flat out - they have to be to pay their expenses! The ones we deal with charge between £8 and £10 per ton for delivery so bear in mind if you are only able to haul 10 ton at a time, would £100 make it worth while? Why not ring some local hauliers for quotes and that should give you an idea. Not being negative, just there are a lot of costs to bear in mind and unless you are carrying a lot and running max hours available you may struggle.
