  1. That's a good one that Dean, you could have had a new Land Rover! You did the right thing and I'm sure karma will reward you.

    My new ride

Nice! You won't loose that in the car park!
  3. Looked at similar a while ago, especially the ex army DAF 45. Yes, they are four wheel drive, sturdy, some come with cranes but as with most 4x4 trucks they will only carry about 4 ton. Add a crane and that reduces to about 2.5 to 3 tons so it quickly becomes non viable. You therefore have to move to something bigger with a bigger crane which means greater operating costs and less likely hood of getting on to and off sites easily. Not sure grant could be used to purchase ex army vehicle either as the item usually, if they will let you buy second hand, has to be up to a certain number of years old. And don't forget if you look at forwarding trailers, a ten ton trailer does not carry ten ton, take off weight of trailer and crane and you will be down to 6 to 7 ton. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision.
  4. Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. I have this ash that came in firewood I ordered last year - it certainly exceeds the sub 14 inch diameter stock I ordered!! The end in the photo is about 22 to 28 inches across (from memory) but the other end is only about 14 inches. I had a few rings cut of the end but would love to see it planked - would you be interested? It's in my friends yard at Consett. I can take some pics next week.
  5. I know it does not answer you question but I just buy mine in from Darren Taylor at Morpeth, DM Taylor Firewood Supplies.
  6. How far would you travel?? May have some in north east.
  7. Hi there, what size timber do you need and would it be softwood?? We are based at Consett and may be able to help.
  8. Freelander Commercial, very comfortable on the road and very capable off it.
  9. Thought you would be along soon Difflock. Any pictures of the van - I know they are rare but I think it would be a nice alternative to a LR 110.
  10. Me too Steve, give me square and chunky any day!
  11. I've always liked them Mark. My favourite tail about them was the Argentinians took a lot of brand new ones to The Falklands which the UK forces then acquired and started using. After the conflict, Mercedes Benz apparently wrote to the UK government requested payment for them. The gov replied as they were war booty they would not be paying so MB took a huff and said they would not supply any spares parts then!!

  14. Be very surprised indeed if there is 50 tons there. But still a good deal for wood stove people if they are local and have the right gear to process it.
  15. If you are interested in WW2 and /or weapons you may like this interesting article on the rough costs of firearms used by the allies and axis forces in WW2. I was surprised the American weapons were not the cheapest given their mass production facilities. A rough guide of the costs of guns during WWII - WAR HISTORY ONLINE
  16. There was an article I read in January stating that inorder to receive grants from the FC, land owners had to have a grey management plan in place. Don't think it is law just a condition of any funding.
  17. Ford sell the Ranger as a tipper direct from their dealers
  18. Most of the ones I see Egg are so small you cannot read it as the vehicle passes you. I also remember a few people on here stating that condensation builds up between your panel and the magnetic sign and can lead to rust.
  19. Ditto!! I know it is a derail but it's hard to forget a friends very poor experience of them
  20. Have a look at Replacement bumpers & winch-fitting kits: Landrover Discovery, Isuzu, Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger etc.
  21. Don't think it would be that much JON. He knows a local guy with a fully restored one and I think he said that was worth £15 to £20k
  22. Apparently they were offered £10k 6 years ago JON. He had a big heavy starting handle for it but did say you could use a cartridge.
  23. Farmer who owns the site where my mates shed is was doing some retro farming this morning - 1947 Field Marshall, single cylinder 47hp, all original. His dad bought it in 1960 for £80 and it was used up until early 70s. Last time used in anger was 1974 for the potato harvest as apparently it was a wet harvest and it was the most powerful tractor they had!
  24. Apologies Shane, I did not mean to be stroppy. I appreciate the advice people have posted since my last comment. I may move the item off my firewood pile now!
