  1. I'm sure you're right. I've thought about county shows but there's two problems. One is the cost of the pitch. The other is the time of year. County show season overlaps my busy time. Basically, I'd like to have stock of gates and other products ready to sell, but I'm always doing orders. Yes, I know what the solution is, but I like working alone.
  2. I'd like an answer to that question. 18 months ago I repaired the bridge over our stream with a 8' long, 7" diameter, alder butt. The bridge is so old that one of the RSJs supporting the 25 railway sleeper deck had rusted and bent like a banana. I'm still driving over it.
  3. Use a 3/4" auger on a brace and bit to cut three holes touching each other, then use a chisel to clean it up.
  4. My Mrs bought a Husky 51 at a boot sale for £45 just for the punt. To be fair it was all good. Sold it "Buy it Now" the same day for £135. Yes, Ebay is turning into a seller market. Be honest and take advantage of it I reckon.
  5. Bending the 48" bar didn't help. I liked the scream and then the sense of relief when he saw no claret running out. You can see the stuffing flying out at 1:40. I'll watch the rest now.
  6. Thanks. Well, from a 40" oak log to finished gate takes 4 - 5 hours. I'd not feel right about asking more and they sell at that price. My wife would agree with you though:biggrin:
  7. For my own stoves (2x10kW) I cut in the dry "break" we get every year around the end of Feb, split it, stack it in the woods uncovered, then start bringing it up to store undercover end of Sept. All of it burns without that horrible hiss and it is usually a mix of oak, holly, hazel, birch and alder.
  8. It ain't gonna get no cheaper and I don't like the government pulling tenners out my a***!
  9. I'm trying to wean myself off the stuff.
  10. They do get smaller after a few miles:lol:
  11. I charge £125 for my 3'x3'. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  12. Speaking from experience, I'd look for an 80 series Land Cruiser(1990-97). I've worked as a mechanic and AA Patrol and in my honest opinion, out of all the manufacturers, Toyota give the least trouble.
  13. People are mental! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68fJP35FxyQ]YouTube - Completely crazy climbing on a tower crane (no safety) !!!![/ame]
  14. Very true. This is pretty much what I do these days. I can turn a small oak or chestnut butt into gates I can sell for £1000. Planking the same piece wouldn't yield much. Uploaded with ImageShack.us I made nine pairs like this last year, all to order and paid in advance, as well as benches, fencing and smaller gates. Anyone reading this can make this stuff. It's not rocket science and saves on gym membership:biggrin:
  15. "You can never have to many Friends,To much Firewood or To much Ammunition" Or too many "o"s
  16. Regardless of all else,to avoid that accident all he needed to do was read the first page of the saw manual - "don't use a chainsaw up a ladder".
  17. not spent much on the Snap-On van?
  18. I use a little Bahco hand axe for all my green woodwork. Holds a very good edge and cost £12.
  19. I feel quite saddened after watching that.
  20. I harvest me own from our land, but time is money and it's a time consuming business.
