  1. Yeah, complacency. I think it's because I've been doing dangerous stuff all my working life, farms, the AA, tree work....can't explain it very well but you know what I mean.
  2. Hmm.. could have been something to do with it. My knee did slip off the wheel just before, but a least I didn't spill the coffee on me acorns.
  3. Wiped out today towing my 16ft Ifor with about 2t of sticks. Coming down the dual carriageway, steep long hill, started snaking, put me foot down to correct, ok for a bit then just lost it. Span round in the road an ended up facing the wrong way staring at a line of cars. Managed to drive it off the road but had to call the cops to run a road block so I could turn around. I can't believe it. I worked for the AA for years towing stuff all over the shop and never had a scare. Bent one side of the Ifor A frame, cracked the rear wheel arch trim on the Cruiser and blew a tyre. Very, very lucky. Had to share this. Be careful guys.
  4. I've got two on ebay right now, one finishes this evening, currently on £21. I'm using a quad bike to move the mill and extract the timber. They go virtually anywhere and pull 250kg easily. Mine is and old Yamaha Kodiak, very useful and versatile tool.
  5. If you need any froes, I'm yer man! You could organise a shingle party:thumbup1:
  6. Yep! The bankers convinced the world that selling the same houses to each other for increasing amounts was the best way to get rich. In fact, now we're more in debt than ever. When they realised they may never get the money back they stopped lending altogether and threatened to crash the world economy if we didn't bail them out. So now they are using the bailout money (quantitative easing) to further impoverish us by bidding up the commodities markets. Unfortunately the banks own everything, including the government.

    spill kit

Partco do them. They were standard issue kit when I worked for the AA.
  8. Exactly! Experience and reputation counts for more.
  9. I've paid as much as £10/hoppus for some really nice stuff I used for a job. It was such a dream to split that nothing was wasted and I was that much quicker, so it was well worth the extra expense.
  10. I think it's almost impossible to kill that stuff.
  11. If I were you I'd buy some nice straight grained sweet chestnut and a froe. I reckon if you try sawing knotty softwood to shingles they'll split after you've fitted them.
  12. I was similar, poor literacy, etc. Then, for some reason, I forced myself to do an OU degree. Problem fixed.
  13. I've had loads of head torches over the years and all have failed rapidly under professional demands. At that price it's worth a punt though:thumbup1:
  14. I get mine going well with a good bed of embers (mine is duel fuel but it can be done) then last thing at night pack it full of large dry hardwood logs and close all but the top small vents.
  15. My first day at work after leaving schools 23 years ago, we were fencing a field. My boss had me push my leg up against a straining post while he cut a wedge for the brace! The chain was six inches from my thigh. Not long after that I was handed the saw and told to "chop up that lot" while he disappeared back to the farm yard and left me in the woods.
  16. What ever happened to Buy British? When I was working in Oz ten year ago they were all well into buying Australian made products. I guess they've still got pride. Oh sorry about the offensive use of these >****
  17. Because the saw is worth more that the "car" in this instance?
  18. .............
  19. Is this for me Jon? Just kidding.
