  1. Ah cool. Im thinking of using one like that though as a tether on my hitchclimber. Also stop teasing me about the Uni:crying:
  2. i would think it would end up coming out of the sheath more often with the strop because it provides something to get snagged on twigs etc.. no bungee strop, less to get caught..
  3. We have gone very short on rain recently...
  4. Cool video. Thanks for posting!
  5. Something like this : Unicender with Tether and Prusik : SherrillTree Tree Care Equipment But for the HC. Guess it needs to be dialed in so that the adjuster hitch is a short as possible, in order to get the HC as close as possible in 'work mode' and still give go length adjustment for 'ascent mode'. Im just worried that I won't be able to get it close as when attached directly to the bridge. Guess I will soon find out if that is much of an issue..
  6. I really liked the rope rocket with a HC system. I think the only downfall is the distance of leg stroke you get. Thinking of settin my HC up on an adjustable tether so a longer stroke can be achieved. Then when you are in the canopy you can pull from underneath (drt) to ascend and when you need it close can adjust the hc back down near to you. Will try to get some pictures soon and post in reply to the anchor bridge system thread. Don't spose you want to lend me a Uni Drew. Shouldn't take long in the post.. haha
  7. I wonder how long it took for the cyano-bacterium to jump into bed with some fungi to make lichens..? Probably only a few billion years:lol:
  8. Thats funny..I thought it was proto-bacteria...?
  9. Originally they said end of April beginning of May I thought.. But who knows.. If they take much longer I will get one shipped in:sneaky2:
  10. No Paul.. I have not heard anything from Paul. Will PM. Will you be heading down too? I'm in the middle of exams at the moment so its 50/50. But yea Unicender for the ultimate SRT by the looks of it. When are they going to get CE marked.. GRRR
  11. How long have you been using it? Mine was crap at first. Now its a dream.
  12. If you got one hand ascender it would open up a lot of different set ups. But as Drew said, test it out with a HC or something with a footloop to see if you like the setup.. With a croll and a pantin you could set up a 'rope rocket' mentioned in this document from VTIO. Ive done it with HC (with a webbing sling made into a chest harness and clipped in the middle hole), croll with a short footloop as a knee ascender, bungeed through the bottom HC crab back down to the pantin on the other foot. It is nice if you cinch a TIP, cos you can SRT up, lanyard in and switch over to your normal climbing system with your HC already on the rope. http://vtio.org.au/Content/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Single-Rope-Technique-i.pdf
  13. Nice. Kind of like an XT plus the ring. Does it self tend well?
  14. Keen as a bean for that

Any updates on this little study David? Was that "unusual load" too much for the lichens to bear?
  16. Had another go a making a ropeguide. Using rubber fuel line in the eye and hose pipe over the eye. I took the old one (using wire) apart and looked at the ends of the wire, which I had sealed using epoxy resin. The epoxy resin was beginning to crack already, starting to expose some of the cut wire ends. Just a word of warning to those using wire in the eye. I think the reason mine did not work out was the epoxy resin I used set far to hard. Perhaps something more flexible would be better so that it does not crack and potentially allow the ends to become exposed and wear through the rope. I feel much more comfortable with rubber in the eye, even if it was a bit harder to get in there!
  17. Hi mate. I don't know if it is ok to wear that lid or not. What I do know is, the old vertex is not great fitting. My friend just bought the new one and it is significantly better. Good fit and much more comfortable. Check out Honeys. They had it for the same price as the old vertex.
  18. Have you tried attaching a throwline to the large soft eye when you install it. Throwline goes over a twig slightly higher than the large eye, then if it gets stuck as you mentioned you can lift the eye back up with the throwline to let the pulley through.. And you can control the descent and dont smash a nice shiny pinto into the dirt
  19. Happy birthday! Hope its been a good one.
  20. Compared to a well sorted VT it is poor. But compared to a tautline, tied in the closed "traditional" system, it is a great performer. It's all relative. Stick with what you are comfortable using would be the best bet
  21. I would seriously think about buying the tree climbers companion by Jeff Jepson. It certainly taught me a thing or two when I started out climbing.
  22. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icdFc0L2tLU&feature=related]YouTube - Abseilen mit dem Spiderjack[/ame]
  23. Probably one of the best demonstrations you will get: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB0KZKADMTY]YouTube - Spiderjackery HD[/ame]
  24. Would be very keen to jump in on this if its still possible Tony.
  25. Would a skinny zip tie between the harness dee and biner work?
