Yeah thats what I guessed. I might make hedging stakes out of it as they only need to do a year or 2

Good evening. A friend has just asked if I can mill some floorboards. I have a load of oak but also have some scots and grand fir in the yard. The fir is in nice big straight butts but growth rings look massive- would it be worth milling either for flooring or anything else. Was thinking of just banging out some big beams and getting them treated to build a new shed. Thanks

I need about 150 stakes (ideally hazel) fairly rapidly if anyone has any please. I was going to mill softwood but customer isnt keen

Changing the subject slightly. has any one used sawn softwood stakes? (I know it might be frowned on for midland/south of england). ? I have mill and loads of softwood so could rattle out a load quickish. I was thinking 40-50mm

Sorry for thread derail, following on from a conversation on site can you still get type B trousers. I've always gone for A (i don't climb) but I remember some SIP's had a bit more leg protection, thinking mainly on inner left calf. Trousers can get a bit rucked up when knee deep smashing up brash!

Both good points, also I've found a big bar on small stems doesn't grip as well so maybe try a smaller bar/hook? -
We have a Bernardi 3tonne winch on our 35hp BCS and its been great and shifted some biggish lumps with snatch block. Just make sure you have butt plate against a stump or dug in well. Make sure to winch inline with tractor (nor at angle from winch)

Just finished this oak breakfast bar for friends. Boards have moved a bit in there new home even though i milled them ages ago. I did make some wooden legs but we thought the simple hairpins worked well.

We've dealt with Hann and Filcris in the past. Both really helpful. i think the plastic is great use for recyled product in the ground but dealing with swarf and off cuts on site is a nightmare so try to do any cuts in the yard.

Good morning. I have been asked to mill some walnut and the customer is happy to put sawdust on his leaf/compost heap. I read somewhere that some walnut can suppress growth in other plants and wondered if this would affect compost? Cheers

I took our tractor/trailer/winch up a few years ago, was a good weekend. Might try and pop up this time.

We have a Grillo climber. Really rate it. Fast over the ground! Light to tow about and leaves a good finish. That said im a thinking of selling it if you are interested?

Husky 550's one has 15". Mine has 13" and 8tooth sprocket and is a bit quick if you just want to 'notch' something;) Also have just got a stilh battery one I plan to use on small stuff when laying with axe/hook and just want to knock heels off. Seems like a good idea as half the time the saw is just ticking over on the ground

I have been asked to fell a stone dead oak. Its a shame as i think it looks great as a feature but customer wants it down (public access etc). Id rather use it for more than firewood, is it worth trying to mill or is it going to be hard going. Cheers

We took one down in a school and they had it milled into cladding. I've also seen it used to make 'log' bench (top and bottom slabbed off) Infract I have been asked to make some 6 so could do with some (or something durable) like that 2m long and 450-600mm dia

Nice setup. Is than an valiant with loader on? We have the TP130 on a 35hp alpine and its been great! Although we are selling it as our work has changed.

Hi We are looking to sell our TP130 chipper. Low hours and great condition with TP pilot(no stress). We run it on 35ph alpine. Agree with all above. I'm guessing the stuff in Norway might be 'denser' (smaller growth rings). Birch bark firelighters are great especially mixed with a bit of dried orange peel
