  1. A good point Rich2484. How many people know or practice this I wonder as I had to explain to one of the lads on the ground why I was leaving my new saw ticking over for a tank full before a bit of real work. Maybe retailers should convey this to clients if they don't already, as I for one have never been told this when sold a saw. Maybe the person who told me was though.
  2. What a fool-er umm I meant faller! Top tips:lol:
  3. Bought a 201t on Wednesday after work. Ran a tank through on tick over before a bit of light use in a tree on Thursday as most of the work required 065, but used it yesterday proper & found it picks up well, handles great & doesn't lack in power on full bar length pieces. It is only however first day of use, but impressed so far. I am wondering though if the white plastic insert in the H tuning screw is just an insert, or do I need another tool to tune in the future if needed? Dose anyone know of this as I don't want to go around prodding, pocking & generally tacking her to bits just yet (even though the temptation is great coz I like to do that sort of thing)
  4. Have still got the choice of the 200 & 201 but have gone for the 201. Even though I hear from co's I work for the 201's lack in pick up speed & power maybe due to the set up to bring them into line with EU emissions reg's in the near future, I figure that if this is the case I will put up with it as we all did on the last change over from the ali cast saws of old that had loads of power (& weight). The main sway for me at least is that the less toxic fumes I breath in on a day to day basis, the better. If indeed this is the way the emissions thing works? Any one who can verify this theory please do so as i feel this is a step in the right direction bar going down the aspen fuel road which I hear voids warranty on saws?
  5. I find it incredible that such a resourceful intelligent species still manage to mess thing up in such a spectacular fashion! The pipes that have got caps on em have lost them thus back to square one! Unreal that we can't invent one fit for purpose eh..It may only be a small thing on such a large impact activity but hey what do a few birds matter Good thread Hamma, look fwd to reading more:thumbup:
  6. Very nice vid & edit's. You clearly know your rigging tec's, crew & equip:thumbup:
  7. Little fish, BIG sea.. I like to swim so am happy to keep exploring even when I do swallow mouth fulls of water(or air in my fish like state) I will evolve one day though i'm sure
  8. Completed, look fwd to reading some info on the info gathered:thumbup:
  9. Lots of engraving on parts that will make the saw undesirable to look at to a prospective buyer on areas that will mean alot of work & £ to bother with, i.e fuel tank, base of the unit, some smaller areas inside the workings that are only accessible from a break down for maintenance. You probably wont get your nicked saw back but it may annoy the person who is selling it as the value may not be as much as with a clean unspoiled saw.
  10. Cheers Hama, I am learning & enjoying it. The more I look the more I see, it is bringing a whole new aspect to every day life:001_smile:
  11. Thanks davyjones, I will look for this one in my limited pest & diseases books as well as the online fungi directory for more info as well as other on line sources on this one as my knowledge is low in many factions in this area at present.
  12. Cheers Gerrit, The rot that I saw was indicative of brown rot as far as I can remember. It rotted the stem from the inside out. As C. puteana is saprophytic can it rot wood in this way as a secondary infection previously weakened by a more aggressive pathogen? If it is not C. putena spp is it an amophous body of another spp?
  13. Oh how I would like this fella to come & risk his life for all of us in the UK so we don't have too pure class. Thanks for posting
  14. Thanks hama, I did spot some armillaria spp loitering around a mature sycamore that is just in the frame to the right. I found no bootlace or other fruiting body's around the trees I felled. Is this just because the damage being done is happy enough feeding out of site for the moment?
  15. Working for a fella a week or few ago & one of the jobs for the day was to remove several macrocarpa due to decline in their condition & some dead ones. Came across this fungi body on the base of most of the trees & I am thinking that they may be suffering from Coniophora puteana? If this is the case is this curtains for the lot of them & is their any treatment that can prevent the spread of it i.e urea treatment of the stumps as with other conifer butt rot fungi?
  16. Thanks for the reply deer man, link didn't work for me but have had a harder look at stuff & got the grip of it now. cheers
  17. Hope this question has not been asked before, if so sorry I will look harder. What is involved in the lots set up & dose it have to have chest harness attachment to work or can it be effective with a normal bridge. Is it setting into the srt a grab of some sort to gain a mechanical advantage as with the drt. New to this srt stuff but I like the sound of the rw so far. Cheers for any info
  18. Argh that I will be. Will be good to sea you & share a flagon of grog with ye.

Give me a ring when you are around & we will hook up.

  19. I would pay a good subi grounds person with aerial rescue, 1st aid ect £80/day. More dependent on experience when a large rigging job is involved & appropriate tickets are held to use the equipment evolved in those situations.
  20. Is that why it was a private job? get many of em do u? Providing your ground's peep spend as much on equip & cert's as your climbers do I can see no prob's
  21. Could have made the news mans day..Anchor man for bringing in such a story if it had happened. Glad it didn't though..A lucky sparrow...
  22. Bigger defo better in these vans imo. I have the crew cab 3.5 ton 2.3 ltr. She shows the weight when to much is put on, but still drives & pulls with loads of torque even if I am a little heavy on the odd occasion. Mpg is good for what she dose & over all I'm happy with it.
  23. Nice pic's. Looks well worth a visit. Thanks for posting:thumbup1:
  24. drunken farm hands trying to find a way of getting rid of their illegal killings other than the normal way of kill n chuck out on road from moving wagon in random places on the way home maybe:sneaky2:
  25. interesting cutting, not seen this before but application with practice in the right situation may prove to be proper good when minimal gear is available in awkward places or time constraints ect. thanks for the pic's.
