  1. Do you find that that putting a 3 to 1 advantage is something that is needed regularly on most of climbs with this system? Nice vid & top tune.
  2. Well I'm not to sure if it is on the move or making a move. Maybe I should have posted in another thread of yours David. Anywho, two trees into one manipulated by humans or just a great natural form?
  3. Ash before oak & all that! Guess we in for a soak eh. Bloomin eck thats early. Where was that?
  4. No prob's. If you move about a bit post again if you up this way. Best of luck.
  5. Nether do I David, I welcome it & try to understand it. I know alot of trees were spiked on the site & I think it may have been done to promote such reactive growth as seen in your shots of axe inflicted wounds on beech in spain. Where the possible spike marks higher in the tree of a lapsed pollard than the example of the tree in spain? Lot's of interesting vectors to be considered. Ted also did some axe work on some beech at bb a few years ago. I wonder what the result of those was on those trees. It is all fascinating research & I look fwd to seeing some results in some years time. I may understand more then too.
  6. Hey Marc, are you up for a rec climb some time soon?

Sure I can find an ok tree & land owner if I put my mind to it.

    Speak soon. Cheers.

  7. They will be busy throwing em off the shelf's at that price. Just payed £427.30 for my 201. No matter. Happy with it so far.
  8. Nothing too taxing. Just a matter of interest. I was climbing a Sycamore last Friday (10/2/12) & she was running sap like a tap. This was N/W London way. Any sap rise else were? If so what area, spices & Date.
  9. David, I don't think that I have worked on the trees in your pic's, but the work I see looks good to my eye as far as vet & environment habitat pruning goes. Magic place to work if you let it in as i'm sure you & your team have:001_smile:
  10. Unfortunately you are right sean. The trees were spiked & wounds from saws were inflicted under the supervision & instruction of those with far more knoll age than I. I do however believe that this method of deliberate wounding was carried out in good faith to promote an un-natural/ natural age colonization of various specific species into a relatively sterile environment previously manipulated by the hand of humans. I am no expert but am trying to see sense in some methods that at some times I don't fully understand but have a little empathy with.
  11. Thanks David I will check it out. Not a sympathetic view. A reality that I think should be adopted throughout the tree management world to some extent. Getting in touch with a tree, or a larger collective of them is something that can take time, & with vet's in mind I feel this is a large part of an effective long term management program that will ultimately benefit all involved.
  12. The eastern fella looks more determined. Maybe an early bird in their some place:001_smile:
  13. Makes sense to me that they keep it all in house. Especially in these times. The work you & your crews do is far more concentrated on the environment & type of work needed on vet trees than commercial contractors could give imo. As much as I would like too. The more work given to a dedicated team year on year around the eco system that is BB the better. Keeping it in house & a sharing of the findings is far more valuable. Sorry but is the BB thread in the health forum & under what post name? (lazy me)
  14. Do you think this some sort of ongoing argument, or just a clean split:001_smile:
  15. Hope you get your visit David. A truly top tree to have another look at (& maybe a climb, in the interest of interest of course) A great find. I will look at the BB threads presently. I may have worked on them & am sure their will be a paper trail linking me if I have (oh errr) Have missed out this year on the vet pollard work much to my disappointment. At least I can still go & visit though.

    Red wine

A bottle a day keeps the Dr at bay..Well for the time being at least as she can't stand my breath! I will put a bottle of white wine down me every eve at the moment & no ill effects the next day. I did party hard years ago & that is something I can't & won't do now. It all catches up in the end...
  17. Marc, I have just bought a RW & if you are up for a rec climb we should sort out a time soon. I can see what you are saying about DRT. I have not had much experience in SRT but bought the RW primarily for access with a quick bail out option. However I will give work climbing a fair run on this system even though I am a rope climbing climber probably more than I would like to admit.
  18. You never know David, I expect if the new owners may need some views of the trees future & a c,o,l card or two through the door may get em thinking:001_smile:
  19. Not quite the hawk eye I thought I had eh, lol. Loving her sagging lower regions. Something she may have in common with lizzy (oh err sorry mrs) Is this type of growth typical of hispidus? I have seen it on branch work of Ash & walnut before the presence of the fruiting body's. Or is this a symptom of weight stress on a potentially weakened trunk due to decay?
  20. treerex. No comp imo between the husky top handle & the stihl (top end saws is another topic). But husky have alot of ground to cover after their other attempts & they also need some dealers in the uk that are easy to access for spares & repairs (at least in the s,e of uk from my net)
  21. Wow David. What a spectacular tree! I too hope they know what they are inheriting. It looks mostly untouched from your pic's. Some interesting language from her too.
  22. I,m a contract climber too. I will pass your number onto a couple of firms I work for if that's ok, as they are always on the lookout for good subi's. Work area is more berk's Bucks, ox & hearts if you are interested.
  23. A point worth making Marc. Another thread maybe? I think you may have started something hear. I agree with you ftr.
