  1. Also seen it on some goat willows last week down south.
  2. Any land fill site I hear is the best place to find those ones.. Have you tried the bags for life? A little dear for 5p a pop but if you keep the ticket they should honer the life time bit BD is going to be the way I go me thinks.
  3. Top looking bag. Bet you get some looks from post peeps wondering if you were or what you have done with their comrades!
  4. My bonsai has had it annually for the past 3 years & has had little extension growth. I put this down to soil & root condition (due to neglect from away time:blushing:) But this is the first year I have noticed it on a fully mature oak (drive by look though) Worth logging down on treewatch though & keeping it updated for the future. Hope Tony is right though.
  5. No argument their Tony. Interesting to keep a tab on it though imo. I read that the moth affecting chestnuts has been about for a long time & the change in human activity has exasperated it's spread. Another story I know but interesting never the less as to it's movement.
  6. Oak is the only one affected. But she is a young work in progress at the mo along with other ones I have on the go.
  7. Thanks for spreading the treewatch link David. I shall be passing by an oak I have seen roadside tomorrow on my way to one of the co's I sub for that looked like it is infested with this as I passed a few weeks ago. I will log this down if it is a correct identification. Don't think one of my bonsai that gets it regularly will count though....
  8. Never knew about it. I should make more of an effort to find out about these events. The last one I went to was a talk from the great Ted Green, & that was ages ago.
  9. Dose that suffocate the little blighters? Have used that method on some of my bonsai trees in the past to rid them of aphids. Cheaper too
  10. Dose anyone have experience in using rose clear or something of the like to help prevent the aphid or slow down aphid attack on conifers or is this just a myth?
  11. What was it listed as? £40 is a huge saving. Was that with postage too? Will have a look on fleabay & see what it throws at me.
  12. Ah yea I see now the shine of the golden steel crab
  13. Looks interesting. From the pic's it looks as if the crab becomes part of the friction loading mechanism. Am I right or wrong path all together? If that is the case would the gap be big enough for one of the fancy roller integrated crabs to fit in as this would reduce wear on the crab & need for replacement in time. I assume their is some sort of bend in the system as with the RW. Sorry hard to see in 2d. Looks like a very tidy in line set up though, will keep an eye out for your feed back:thumbup: Just re read your post & bit about crab being connected to the friction cord, so ignore bit about friction & crab ect:blushing:
  14. Well black diamond it may well be if I'm feeling flush that is.. Thanks all for opinions & recommendations:thumbup1:
  15. What is the zip like when it gets wet saw dust/wood chip all gummed up in it?
  16. Thanks for the post Sean. Ted is a real pleasure to listen to eh. He throws his enthusiasm & knowledge out in such an accessible manor.
  17. Thanks all for opinions on bags & boxes. I was more swayed to the silver bull as I have had rigging bags made by them but am now looking at black diamond. Thanks Rob & James. Have used boxes (ex army ammo their great) before but as I sub alot & find myself carrying my kit around & carrying it around to places vans don't get to sometimes so rucksack like style may be the way for me. I will also check out some of the sites you have recommended. Kiza nice slippers fella
  18. Wow this year has gone fast! Won't make it as too busy but would recommend it as a good afternoon out if time permits. Thanks for the post Les.
  19. Hello all, I'm in the market for a new climbing kit bag & it boils down to two that look as if they will fit my needs the most. Silverbull multi use. Black diamond touch stone. My question is has anyone got ether of these & what are your thoughts on them with regards to can harness, 45m rope & a variety of crab's & other gear be stored in & on easily, along with durability, weather & people lobbing it on & off trucks & that sort of general abuse that kit bags can get. & anything else that you think should be mentioned. Cheers for any feed back.
  20. Just a quick embarrassing one. Dead multi-stemed crack willow dismantle late last week. Banged line in at around 12m so thought tie off at the base & work the stems srt wr. No big shakes couple of fences to miss but straight forward enough. Anywho anchor spar to climb remove branches on the way up chop chop drop ect, then... A small branch off back of stem leaving a little stub & oh sh##! forgot I was on srt with a base anchor on same spar.. I was a good few cm from my line that was running down the back of the spar. Lessons learned, when working srt remember that the line I am so used to seeing is not my only concern whilst cutting. Flush cutting to the trunk on a side I cant see is not a good method, always look at what I'm cutting! (complacency Is not a good look). I was stropped on with my lanyard but I am a git for forgetting to do that too sometimes. Could have at worst ended with me needing to buy a new climbing line that day, but woke me up to working in close proximity to my base tie off srt.
  21. Cheers. Will take a look. Had a look looks easy from the pic but still cant shift the pin. It has been in their for over a year. Any ideas please of how to get it out? Cheers.
  22. Some books, Some people I have had the privilege of working with, some from some years of working with trees & my own observations, & last but not least reading some posts written on these very pages by very well informed in tune practitioners of the art of arboriculture. Every day is a school day:001_smile:
  23. klima air. the red ones. (don't know the proper name sorry) Lasted me just over a year which is a record for me. Tad pricey though but as the airstreams lasted you longer than they did me I think you may get two years working life out of them as long as you clean & treat em right.
  24. Hi all, have any of you replaced the clutch on the positioner? I have taken the side plate off & found 3 pins that seam to lock everything in place. Am I going about it in the right way with a bit of center punch persuasion thoughts before I give em a tap? Thanks for any feed back.
  25. Any big top off can result in a possible head topping in response to such a harsh relief of pressure if you have acute angles to throw into the mix. Treat what ever you have to top with respect if you are at height as you don't have much room to run off. (eggs & suck) sorry lol.. Apart from that I would not comment as not seen the trees & associated problems that may rear their heads on semi mature trees of this spp. I find that generally the same rules that apply to ground felling are roughly the same up in the tree. If you have reservations as to a technique & its response to what you are applying it to then go smaller & learn from comfortable less life changing mistakes. Start from the ground then work up if that has to be the way.
