  1. Lucky shot Marcus Seriously though, proper impressed with that & the way it came down through the ivy from all the potential friction, which gave my 12oz bag trouble on one of the other trees. As I said before I was interested in it's performance before I shelled out for the big shot as I like the added benefits of something that will imo come down more reliably than a bag from those higher shots. No I'm not on the pay roll, I just know when I use a good bit of kit I will big it up.. Do I get a free pod now Marcus

What I like about your vid Reg is not the skill & accuracy you were teaching & achieving with a fella that clearly wants to better himself! But the on going banter that you achieve throughout. A skill & something that our industry seems to be lagging in of late.
  3. Not had the same problem with big saw on my belt, but do know what you are on about in other work positioning situations. A good point that I have come across & adapted to after some use & compensated for. A good point though:thumbup1: Which is not something worth boasting about
  4. As colemanjessenz said holding both rope & positioner makes for smooth movement. I have used the positioner with no problems for a long while & never had probs with it gumming up with sap so far. I think it is also more expensive than the cinch but you can replace parts(although I have had problems doing this on my old one) I hear that once the cinch has worn then its bin it & by again, not sure on its every day working life time scale when used as a side strop adjuster though. My positioner will last over 2 years before I notice any performance problems & think about cam replacement. Having read some of the other posts in this thread I have changed my mind though on a renewal of the positioner & will go for a cinch.
  5. Wasn't the magic I was on about Marc. I did get on with that harness & used till I couldn't any more. The one I had issues with & same issues have cropped up with this one was a latter harness & new form completely different from the magic. Anyhow I won't go into details as I don't want to put people off & put words in mouths ect... Interested if me & others are the only ones who have this problem.. Best of luck with it Adam & look fwd to your reviews on it.
  6. A good read if you are interested in the tree health forum (pollards, leave fingers or not). Nice job from what can be seen though. Keep asking & reading fella:thumbup1:
  7. Not got one myself but know someone who has & has been using it for a few weeks & not good reports on it so far..I did have an edelrid some years ago that suffered the same prob's so I sacked it off as a bad buy back then. As you say climbing styles vary & maybe just didn't suit my style or the person I know. Will be interested to see what you think of it.
  8. Stihl 192 maybe? not used one myself but have heard good feed back on them in the past. I have also herd the stihl 150 is a good pruning saw too. It depends what you want out of it. The 150 (10'' bar) is defiantly only a pruning saw! If you want something with a bit more poke then go for a 192 or an 200 (not a 201! imo) If it's cheap your after & not full on pro then an echo will do the job nicely. They are well made saws with good power to weight ratio, but not quit built to the standard of the big names imo..
  9. Colemanjessenz :- cheers for the you tube review, liked the part about molded sole designed around trees. Langur :- Didn't know they did legs too. Will look out for those too. Cheers for feed back on the pantin. Think I will take the jump & order a pair soon.
  10. Ah, I see the difference now in bag positioning, I have only used the older big shots & the pouch is alot different from the new ones as in the pic posted.
  11. Cheers fellas. They don't have chain saw protection but that's not a problem for me as I have another set of work boots. I think they are still advertised as non protective & recommended as rec climb boots. However, interesting to hear that they are ok with spurs too. Do you also use any foot rope grab of any sort with them, or foot lock? What is your opinion when used with one or the other?
  12. Proper job their at 7.30! even with the 34 ton 360 thats a balls out pick to a lay person like me..fun to watch that cheers for posting.
  13. I know their are threads about other boots some of you fellas use for climbing, but I am interested in the arb pro boots that I have seen on hb site. Dose any one have a pair & what do you think of them? I like the bit in the blurb that they have been designed by climbing arbs & that part of the sole gives good grip on wet beech!! ect. Are they up to the job? Not sure how long they have been about so may be an unfair question. If they are pants any recommendations are much appreciated
  14. Yea thats what I would have thought too, along with a skilled person on the lowering bollard who understands the importance of slowing things down as much as poss before it reaches the ground or any other targets. Would be interesting to see vid's of different cuts & their effect on the flight of tops in potential shock load situations. Much nicer to observe in vid form & experimentation from the relative safety of a bucket than being strapped to the poll. As you know i'm sure that sometimes a shock load is not entirely avoidable for various reasons & a cut that could lessen that would be great to employ in those circumstances. A wide mouth for instance..
  15. Very true Mark. I think I will go with the other next time too as it seem like a false economy to me.
  16. Looks like their is a paving slab path in the drop zone at the beginning of the vid. Or he just did it for sh*%s & giggles maybe:thumbup1:
  17. Agree with that. 3 of the boots came through within 2 weeks of buying it. My other cube made by the other co lasted me around 5 years before I had to get another. The price swung my decision to the stein cube.
  18. Cheers Marcus, will check it out. Maybe have a go with your one if we cross paths again.
  19. Cheers David, that looks like the one:thumbup1: Must get a fone with a decent camera for work now:sneaky2:
  20. Seen some the other day on an ash stump. One of the fellas took a nice looking one with the mind to clean it up a little, varnish it & create a gift for someone. Interesting to see if it turns out nice.
  21. Interesting seeing the slow mo & how far the cut end flys from the stem. Nicely slowed down by who ever was on the lowering device too.
  22. Made a 10 inch tether the other day & tied vt 3/2 & it all works much better. Still find it slow going on short drops but once I am moving it goes well. I'm thinking my rope may be in need of a de-gunk though which could be contributing..
