1. Cheers bbtarb, I am looking at getting my own big shot & something that will come down with more ease than a conventional bag on high shots so I may go with this combo for my money. How do you mean positioning? point sat well into the base of the big shot pouch & careful holding prior to launch so as not to invert ect?
2. Probably the wrong thread again as I have no photo but a bit of a description:blushing: Found some only what I can describe as frog spawn looking stuff on some branches & on the grass beneath an oak I was asked to reduce yesterday. Dode it sound like some form of fungi or is it just purged spawn from an unfortunate victim of a bird maybe? I can't find any pic's of anything like it hear. Sometimes I would like not to have such a pants phone for work...
3. No signs of Kretzschmaria & no history of it's presence in past reports carryed out on the tree as far as I know.
4. Not that old just having problems with insurance co's due to a couple of trees being closer then 5 yards from their property
5. Well not so much present biomechanics as in some of past posts but something I found interesting. Unfortunately I didn't have the time in the day to take more photo's:blushing: The tree had been colonized by a gano spp for some 20 years to my knowledge & had been successfully managed with this in that time. My last meeting with it was some 6 years ago when the gano had colonized more buttress area & was thought to be significant enough to warrant a choice of a 60% reduction or removal. The client went for the reduction in full knollage that tis may kill the tree due to the severity & spp (copper beech). The tree responded well. The clients finally decided to remove the tree a few months ago. A real shame as it was a feature in the tree scape around. Any way, a testament to the bio mec's of both tree & fungi.
6. If that was you doing the vid, ta much as it put it simply & accessible. Showing that frog walk method is both easy & cheap to set up once you have an srt wp gadget. Utilizing slings that you can stow & use for re-directs also is a proper plus.
7. Got the 2.3ltr. Go for the 2.8 as when towing with a load it drinks the fuel. Mine shows the weight (crew cab) but pulls like a train even with the smaller lump. All in all a great wagon imo.
8. Cheers fellas. I'm thinking it may be my tether length. Ian said his is 10 inch which is a good deal longer than mine so I will have a go at making a bigger on & see how that goes. I am using armor prus on imori. I may change my working line to tachion & see how that works too.
9. looks good & alot cheaper than rope knight. Two different products I know but given the choice I would spend my money on this one (when my lead bag pops though!) I have a 10oz & 12oz on zing it line & rarely use the 12, only when chucking through ivy or cedar trees. I did have an 8oz & that gave me great hight but only came down on smooth bark at over 20m throws. Has this been used in a big shot? Still £40 is alot of money when £9 will do the job & last for a good while. Is their a life expectancy on this? I'm guessing it is 1000yrs + due to the components or accidental loss:biggrin:
10. Just moved to a vt 2 wraps 3 braids & i'm finding it gets hard to move under load when working with the wr. Is this because my tether is to short from knut days, or just a matter of playing around more with wraps & braids on the vt. I I have dropped a wrap from 3 to 2 & added a braid as I found 2 & 2 too loose. Any feed back much appreciated.
11.
Hope you have some fun contracts on fella. May catch up another time as my weekends are busy with family life at the mo. But would be good to sort a rec climb out in some better weather. I did talk to mark about one ages ago but never got it sorted. I have a real nice tree in mind though & it's near by an ancient tree too that is very well worth a look. I will look into being let onto the grounds when I find the number & let you, marc ect know..

12. Whats the back ground song please? I know lots of people who trust their flip line alone & slate me for climbing with a rope flip line (on smaller trees) & back up line for bail out all the time. I just tell em it makes me more aware of my work position all the time by not relying on such a thing..
13.
Each to their own. Looked at your srt set up pic & have set mine up now, but liking the frog walk with the wrench, just have to tweak my knot for it & not had the chance lately as have been doing lots of site clearance & the climbing I have done don't warrant those set ups. May catch up next week for some work with you all...Take it easy..

14. hard to say from pic. but from what i can see & read, probably not. if i have the option of fence removal then that is number one call, even if that takes a few hours to achieve that. i'm sure your judgment call on the day with a rope pull ect was sufficient due to your years of experience of working with trees & risk assessment/ taking risks like some of us have that builds this wealth of undocumented know how. don't know unless you try, but to all those out their who want to, experiment small & at every opportunity that you can which wont cost you, your work mates & your pockets too much!!
15. Let em know you have seen them. Take a reg no down, look at your insurance policy & lock up your chipper to your van. The last ting they want is to be caught as this drops down their earning potential (not to mention a slap from those they have learned from), if you get their reg no it may be a fake but it will give em hassle none the less! Was asked to do this ages ago by a fella I worked for who had his trucks marked by idiots who can't earn a days wage by any other means! seamed to work though when we kept getting followed back to near the yard & I would jump out whilst parked in traffic & look at their reg no with pen & paper in hand. Don't go scrapping with people though as you may get mistaken id ect.. Best of luck
16. had a laugh watching it & showed it to someone I sub for last week, he said that's a Jenks truck & crew! Knew it was..Good to see high moral in teams!
17. Had a go on one briefly late last week while subbing for someone that bought one. First impressions are, it is in no shape or form a replacement for the 200t, but for what it is designed for it seams well suited. I would run it with a 10 inch bar though as I can see the temptation to try to get it to work like a bigger saw will be great. As for it's durability with in the normal working environment..Time will tell.. The only down side I can see at just a quick glance is the choke & primer area look a bit vulnerable to accidental activation of the choke in hedges & puncturing of the primer in thorn hedges/trees as it is being pulled about on a lanyard.
18. Well put & just what I am discovering the benefits of on srtwp climbs. Every days' a school day in many ways..
19. Is that the same as an arbshole then? Nice vid btw. Look forward to the full one for some more fluffy terms I can impose on potential clients.
20. Not sure how the pro traxion or wall hauler work with regards to lowering. Sure weight would be an issue if they are designed for light haulage, but i'm thinking a combo set up of em some how & file the teeth off if they have em.. Not clear on what the application/operation is you are trying to achieve & why a speed boat is involved, sounds like fun though & best of luck with it...
21. Also helped with elbow prob's. I have found a new way of approaching climbs with the variety of options srt adds to my tree climbing tools. i.e re-directs that would not be possible on ddrt due to angle optimization with pre loading & isolating to share the load on one or multiple re-directs. Physical effort on long assents has been dramatically reduced. A new way of planing my climbs which has enhanced my enjoyment of climbing as I feel I can use more dimensions of the tree, therefor opining a new canopy to me... Time also on some operations, but not all. I still swap methods about...Finding more ways to apply srt every time I use it. Still only a novice at it though, but enjoying the learning...
22. Make a small bundle as if you were making a bundle to throw into the crown & cinch up to stop it undoing prematurely.
23. So many out their..like most of em. laughed lots at the one Ian just posted.
24. Cheers for bringing this situation to attention again Paul. Lot's of good points made hear. I do feel that all blame & paper work/ back covering is a necessary evil for any clued up business operator in this day & age (as much as I don't like to admit it), but the responsibility imo lies with those on site who should be looking out for one & all. Having young/ inexperienced people in teams is stressful & challenging at times. Having the ability to make a work place safe, professional, efficient & fun when the time is not on your side is something I see as lacking when teams are not run properly. More often than not some of these short comings are compensated by taking short cuts to make up for what is seen as lost time... Time for team leader education in the work place as well as back covering paper work. Rant over...(ish...)
25. I climbed on blaze for a good long time & other smaller diameter ropes & also found problems with hand & forearm fatigue after a few years. I won't climb without sticky gloves now even with imori. I think climbing on a vt hc & now wr takes its toll on the grip from the years ago prusuck thruching method. The advantages of a smaller working rope imo are the gizmo fits. If that is your bag or you want to move into that sector then go for it.. If you are happy climbing ddrt on lets sat a prusak or blakes fair lead combo then stick to 13mm.
