  1. Won't be about next weekend I'm afraid, I'm off to see family. I'm trying to organise a rec climb lincoln way sometime in the spring so maybe you can try out the wrench then. I'll put up a thread when I get a date sorted

  2. Definitely!
  3. I've been thinking about using an extendable bridge with the wrench. Mainly just for the droopy/weak limbs was the intention. The thinking was if you were to be in a situation where you needed a micro adjustment, without adding weight to the limb, the bridge would be the best point to do it ie. Ddrt style. Any thoughts?
  4. Lockjack does the job fine with two people, you just have to take it steady when descending!
  5. Possibly, I'll pm you tomorrow when I can say for certain
  6. I've just been on there, looking smart. I thought it had changed. The antivirus on my phone didn't like it though, something came up about "certificate not trusted"
  7. Some great stuff there. It's making my lust for a mill worse!
  8. I'd back it up with a prussik on top of the ascenders, that ought to bind if the ascender didn't grab. Maybe that would solve it?
  9. I'd say a ground anchored srt system and show him how to use a sit stand method. Have another climber go up a separate line using the same method for moral support and guidance. With the ground anchor use a gri gri or similar to lower him a) if he gets into trouble b) for when he finishes with the cameras. Don't forget he can't work off ascenders so he'll need a work positioning setup of some kind, changeovers can be done by the other climber with him
  10. I normally use a single line with a microfrog setup for long ascents, but on the odd occasion I'd like to footlock the doubled line then pull my lockjack up to myself to start work (thanks joe harris for the idea). It would save having to keep a separate line in for access and be a quicker changeover for work. Having looked at getting a double ascender and not liking the price, is there any reason I can't use two single hand ascenders on a doubled static line? I haven't tried it yet but thinking about it I wondered if it could cause some slippage between either end if I was to miss strike with my feet
  11. I've got one in Lincoln if you want a go? Might be having a rec climb this weekend in Canwick
  12. Wd40 also works.....
  13. Arbtalk is pretty handy. Do a search of the kit you're after and there's bound to be a few threads with info on it. Failing that youtube and industry shows
  14. Super cheap shampoo, the cheaper the better, doesn't need any scrubbing, just lather and rinse
  15. 13/2/12 A. platanoides pouring out in Lincoln
  16. Hi ian, any chance you could post up the pictures you took last week. Would be interested to see them when you get a chance. cheers

  17. I'll help if you need any!
  18. On the rec climb at the weekend we tested the lj on srt, without the wrench. It'll hold, but movement is nigh on impossible. Ian has a picture of the lj with his weight on it. Haven't tried drop tests but have heard good results for the rw/lj
  19. Yes the twisting does matter and it had been noticed by lj users, hence my earlier post about a small descent to engage the rw. Otherwise you may as well just be using the lj on it's own, then add the wrench in for descents! I know you said you don't always want to descend a bit but I'm afraid you have to for correct usage. It's the same with a hitch but the hitch doesn't twist or look otherwise wrong, but without that drop onto the wrench you are again not using it as intended! I don't understand the confusion! Ascend, set the wrench, drop 3-4", away you go!
  20. I use a short link/cut away strop for mine. Have a look at the vid from earlier today
  21. Nice one ian, I had a play in a little walnut after you'd gone, trying out keeping weight on the rope and off the branch. Rads hardly seems worth it for returning, just a faff and extra gear, even on real thin branches that can't take my weight. I tried out a few extra clip in re directs for stability and they can make things easier on little wobbly droopers. Going to find a big tree next week and try a work style climb, check out routes through the tree and how they'd differ from ddrt, probably time trial it against ddrt, though I doubt it will be representative as I'm slower srt.
  22. Do you mean how the lj seems to bend to the left on the bottom attachment? If so, that's what happens before the rw is fully engaged, therefore only a problem if you're climbing around like that. Otherwise just descend a little so both the lj and rw are holding you.
  23. Girly button is a good one
  24. Never used one on the 66, only used the de compression valve on the 88 when I had an arm injury. Never broken one
  25. I was cleaning up a snow damaged cedar last February. Loads of hangers and snapped bits in the canopy. It was also VERY windy that day. As I paused and was talking to my groundy,a branch approx 3" diameter snapped out ten foot above me, just missed my head and landed butt first, spear style two foot from the groundy. It would've been very nasty had it got him
