  1. Hi mate, hows your job going?

  2. I use it the opposite end and with a hitch. Larks foot the big eye onto the spliced eye of your strop then clip a krab into the small eye. I find putting it in with your grab/hitch moves it further away which can be annoying on small poles
  3. Just with the bottom attachment? I haven't tried the lockjack on it's own on a single rope (nor do I intend to) but I have had a play with it on the ground srt. It seemed to pull hard to one side,as the attachment points are offset to the rope.knowing it would grab in the event of a wrench failure is good to know though! Cheers
  4. Nice one,i should have at least three from work plus other locals
  5. Not with me and my gear is at work,i can get some tomorrow
  6. Following on from a couple of other successful get togethers, it's now my turn to host. The last couple of times we've had guys using a variety of different gear and probably all learned something from each other. Its also been good just to meet more like minded people! Don't be shy guys, the more the merrier!
  7. I've got a short link on my rw,the small eye is attached to the wrench then the big eye I larks foot onto the top of the lj. As for non rated, fair enough with a hitch, as the hitch would grab if the krab failed, but the lj would be a quick drop!
  8. Hi mate, how are you fixed for the 4th Feb? provisional date for the next rec climb, to be confirmed after work tomorrow night. I can do basic accommodation too if you guys travelling far want?

  9. I used to wear 20mm tubes in both ears, never had any complaints, only ever people interested in what they were. Most of my tats are covered by clothes, but again, never had any complaints. Considering we get covered in sawdust, mud and general tree filth, I doubt many people are worried about a little ink to boot!
  10. As the previous post,i didn't mean as a final tip. Though, if unlike me you wanted to use this method, you could put a micro pulley on top of the prussik, tie your throw line to it, then with a lot of force pull the whole lot down when you're done, but you would need enough rope to reach the tip and have both ends on the ground. Also the prussik would seriously bind up and be very difficult to retrieve. I haven't tried this, im just thinking aloud:thumbup:
  11. I didn't mean as a retrievable anchor,i just meant for an initial ascent without using a throw line. Once you get to your tip,i wouldn't be using a krab, i'd use a running bowline or alpine butterfly. I wouldn't trust a krab left alone to knock and rub against things...
  12. Il post the date for it monday night:thumbup: Are you going to keep the long lanyard or just stick with the flip line as a side strop?
  13. Feeling flush? Bet that was a few quid! I'd like to see it in the flesh, im intrigued how it would work with a flipline
  14. In theory, if you're climbing limb by limb, you could put a little prussik on your line, krab tied to the end. Each limb just clip into the prussik, set it so the krab won't cross load against the branch and away you go. Quicker than tying running bowlines repeatedly.
  15. I was just using a valdotain, not vt so it was only wraps, no braids. I started with four wraps and moved onto five. I'll have a play with different hitch combos during the week. Do you find when you raise the rw then put your weight on there is a bit of sit back and the wrench isn't in the full descent position? Or does it not need to be unless you are descending?
  16. Hi kevin. I'm using marlow boa hitch cord and new england 13mm hi vee. I weigh about 13st. I did have the wrench fully open to start with, so obviously there would be more weight on the hitch than the rw. I found that once I had cracked the hitch off, the rw would take up more weight and the hitch would be ok until the next ascent. Then I'd have to go through the same again. I think this may have been caused by the way I set the rw after ascent. Maybe I should've set it higher, to take more straight off, without needing to descend slightly to engage the wrench fully? It is quite awkward to move the wrench fully up when you have your weight on a pantin.
  17. I looked at using the 3:1 with an ascender but the lockjack didn't really work with it. I've got a week off now to play with it now though!

I'm organising a rec climb at loddon on a146 at the end of january, would be good to have as many people as possible. I'll put up a thread when I get a date sorted.

  18. Hi Ian. How are you getting on with your rope wrench? Would you be interested in a rec climb in norfolk sometime?

  19. First use of my rope wrench today. Tried it with a valdotain and lockjack. The hitch seemed to still get a lot of friction and bound up a bit. The lockjack was super smooth for descents and limb walking. The hard part is getting used to ascending/returning from branches and tending the rw. Has anyone experimented much with tether lengths? Mine came with one honeys put on it. It seems if you kept the setup as compact as possible it would be easier to keep everything in line and set, but can you tie it up too short?
  20. Cheers andrew for hosting. I will sort something out this way for the end of next month. Should be able to do some basic accommodation if anyone wants to stay. I've got that video of joe doing a leap but it'll take me a while to work out how to post it.
  21. Anyone else turns up give me a call. We're in the woods 07789950455
  22. It's tomorrow mate, weather forecast is good until after dark so fingers crossed it stays that way
  23. I'm in. Got my new toys to play with! And I'm interested in seeing a rw/sj combo if you fancy a go albere?
  24. Did it work? The ones in the last two pics look very well gone. No bark for galleries/overwintering, and no buds as a food source. Doubtful they'll cause much harm to anything else. Ded is here and doesn't look like it's going away
