  1. The odd bit of cash but the most memorable had to be two freshly shot partridge, complete with feathers, guts and shot still inside!
  2. Ditto
  3. Cheers, I'll bear that in mind:thumbup:
  4. There is always one! They go that way every day so can't possible deviate from their course regardless of what's happening. Seen people tear down tape, move or climb over barriers, sprint under a BIG load on the rigging! Nearly had to tackle a cyclist earlier this week and then inform her she was headed the wrong way up a major road into the path of a bus!
  5. I'd be up for it anytime but if it's gonna be a bar/camping thing i thought it might be best to wait for spring. Just testing the water at the moment to see what kind of interest there would be before I organise something and no one turns up!
  6. Got a few potential sites, spread between central/east midlands and east anglia. So probably be wherever is best for anyone interested. Or I'm open to suggestions if anyone has anywhere else. Trying to do it as a friendly thing and if there is enough interest possibly get a bar/camping etc.
  7. Would anyone be up for a get together, fun climb/share ideas etc? There seems to be quite a lot of innovation and new things going on in the industry nowadays, wondered if it was worth sharing our knowledge, and hopefully if I can sort it out, climbing some pretty cool trees.
  8. Saw a woman on a bike try to hop up a kerb and fail few months back. had cuts all over her face and legs, even had tarmac embedded in her teeth! A few winters ago, grinding stumps roadside in the snow, an old woman came sideways on a moped through the cones. She began ranting at us as if she hadn't seen the signs, cones, three men in hi vis, van with flashing beacons or the 20mph limit. She ended the conversation by telling us to stop digging holes(!) and go out gritting and clear the roads:confused1:
  9. I think they have a five year service life from date of first use. If that is not traceable then five years from manufacture.however like all climbing gear it will need to be inspected by a loler examiner every six months, potentially making it's life span less.
  10. Try to use as much different kit as you can on your 38, see what suits you before going out and spending any money. As for your harness,i doubt it's the right kind if you've been rock climbing in it.
  11. Tie the casualty to yourself however you normally would. Ascender on their line above them with a micro pulley and cord with big splice.tie one end to casualty, splice on your foot, stand up on it to lift them. Sit down (slowly!) to take their weight onto your gear. Then disconnect whatever system they're using. If that makes sense?!i think there is a version like this on the vtio website, though only covers static access lines, not srt as work positioning
  12. I reckon if that does happen you could get a fair size protest group together on here. I'm in
  13. My first crane job. First day back climbing after an injury and had the 88 with the big bar up the tree :-) most others seem to have blurred into a mish mash of things that have happened on sites
  14. Hi all, I'm taking a trip to Brighton next weekend and was hoping to see a few of the elms. Anyone know of any particular trees worth seeing? Seen the preston park twins on the brighton and hove website, and know of the pavilion so going to try and get them both in. I've heard rumours of an elm walk set up by the council but don't seem to be able to find any more info on it. Thanks
  15. If only you had asked six months ago, had a big felling job. 50+ mature oak,a dozen ash nearly all pulled over with 3/4"steel cable and unimog. Get about 20 year we do this way otherwise would have been up for it!
  16. Sounds about right
  17. I'm not trying to point out what I know, more the failings of the qualification system we are supposed to adhere to:thumbup: Cs quals are almost unlimited, though having a ticket doesn't mean you're capable. Likewise, there are a lot of more than capable people who don't have the relevant tickets
  18. fair enough, it didn't when I did mine, nor did my 38 or 39 cover cutting on a pole the proper way they teach now. I.e main line choked to stem. So lets forget I have a 41, where do I stand on dismantling? Is my older qualification now invalid or am I just not up to date with industry best practice training, though i still have a year left before refresher is due?
  19. Can't find the article online but it was in the winter 2010 arb magazine. Doesn't say about action taken following the incident but notes the hse inspector was complimentary of the teams action in rescue and professionalism.
  20. Chucking down would still require a 41, as it's dismantling AND rigging
  21. Can try to find it, was printed out in the office. I think it may have been in one of the arb magazines though not sure. I'll have a look this afternoon when I get in
  22. There was a bloke cut himself a few months back chogging down a stem. He had cs39, team leader had 41. Hse report said the climber wasn't trained for the task, nor would it acknowledge the supervision of the qualified boss as sufficient. Its a technicality, but without 40 or 41, you can't actually do anything in a tree with a chainsaw.cs39 appears to just be a gateway ticket to getting 40 and 41. Also, are there any tickets for using bigger bars than 15"? I've got The old 32, the boss has 32 and the old 33, all courses done with 15"bars

    Why not?

We talked about this at work. depending on how you mounted the chipper it could be very awkward to work with. If you're chipping into a trailer you would prob have to have the feed on the side, then tight driveways could be an issue as could roadside works.
  24. I don't particularly agree with all reductions as there are many that don't seem to have a justified reason. But...there are imo legitimate reasons to do them. Hazardous/overweighted decayed trees. Reducing windage on recently exposed trees. And this may seem a bit apathetic but I'd rather reduce a tree for no reason than take it down for even less of a reason. Of course there's also the tv reception to think of:sneaky2:
  25. Might have somewhere just north of ditchingham if that is any good? Give me an hour and I can say for certain
