  1. Used it years ago and made me sick as a dog for a few days after so not used it since Sent from my GT-I9305 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Anyone know about the workings of this NI refund/reclaim thats being advertised on the radio to help out business by the government, says about reclaiming it through payroll but is it possible for us self employed/sole traders to claim any of it?
  3. Know exactly how you feel there mate, I've been subbing to another firm 5 days a week since last July due to lack of work on my own part and doing my own work at weekends but 3 weeks of working with one of the worst feckwits there meant by the end of yesterday I could feel myself building up for anothe rmajor anxiety attack so glad I was off today else think I would have been bad again
  4. Been asked by a customer today to price for a bunker for his grass clippings, his existing one is about 12ft x 5ft and consists of a corrugated tin sheet on one side and pallets on the other 2, but he wants something tidy to replace it, was thinking about basically doing a paling fence to the three sides but wonder if that would let the grass dry out too much to compost? any ideas on a design/materials welcome
  5. Evening! definitely a nice day, pity had to get up at 5 am to go down bottom side of Wolverhampton to finish a site clearance
  6. I watched it with the sound off, thought the speeded up bit should have the Benny Hill music on it then got distracted by the picture of the Henley firebreather at the top of the page
  7. Way I do it is to hold my arm out and bend it upright at the elbow with your fingers outstretched upright now walk backwards til your fingertips are level with the top of the tree then if you swing your arm over in the direction you want to fell it your finger tips will line up with where the top of the tree will end up, give or take a couple of feet.
  8. I've run carlton on my own saws last few years, mainly due to price as on hedgelaying work you can go through a chain every 100m due to hiden wire/nails stones etc, never had any real trouble with oregon we use all oregon chains on the saws for the firm I sub too and seem to last pretty well considering we do alot of site clearance.
  9. Must be true it was in The Sun today
  10. Which saves them a slow death from starvation as urban foxes have grown up as scavengers not hunters and so can't fend for themselves in the countryside .
  11. Would tend to lean towards willow, although the bark of some willows can look very much like ash, the yellow colour of the wood is usually a good giveaway for willow, fresh cut ash is usually white or pinkish and alder is white when first cut turning dark yellow/amber or red.
  12. We do alot of work on building sites too, if the boss knows they are a particuarly anal firm then he will send the guys with cscs if not he doesnt worry, never been asked for it yet, if it mentions it on the induction form just tick yes, most sites at most the induction has been no more than 5 minutes and usually involves telling you to wear your ppe, the location of toilets, canteen etc and who is first aider on site, although best one was other week doing a job for coal board, the induction was "wear your helmet" maybe we're just lucky with it though as we work regular for the same firms and see the same site managers on a regular basis
  13. Felling some monster lleylandii today 5 transit loas of chip out of 3 trees! got another 15 to drop yet and then fell and chip everything else in the pic too, the high stump was deliberate due to the curve and lean on that one, had to fell it with the 365 on an 18" bar as couldnt get the 395 to start
  14. NAAC contractors price guide for 2013/14 reckons £35.80 per hour for ditching with a 360, doesnt state what size but that makes it £308 per day based on an 8 hr day
  15. I write left handed and usually do any fine work left handed but am right dominated for things like shooting and chainsawing but I can still used a saw or hammer etc left handed if required which is handy, I was fully ambidextrous as a kid but at primary school I was pushed to pick a hand for writing as apparently it annoyed the hell out of the teachers when I would start off left handed then change to right handed as I went across the page or when my left hand got tired
  16. I've used oak chippings from the local saw mill as bedding in the sheep shed for a few years, its bigger chip than usual and has seen a major reduction in lameness in housed sheep due to improved bedding dryness and also I suspect due to oak being a natural antiseptic, needs to be heaped and turned for a couple of years before spreading to let the chip rot down though, general mixed chip will compost quicker but I suspect there could be problems if it contained yew for example or chippings from other poisonous trees/shrubs.
  17. I was thinking abot £150 a go off the top of my head without working it out, assuming the netting is to stop sheep would it not be quicker to put 5 rails on instead of 4 and do away with the netting? that would speed the job up and reduce materials costs and just put a strand of barb around the top to deter cattle leaning on it.
  18. Usually pasta salad, homemade salad, tin of mackerel in sauce and some bread and butter for a change and just recently Mrs csservices has been making me quiches she's just perfected a chorizo, yellow pepper and red onion one oh and always have a scotch egg or pork pie for second breakfast
  19. Shortwood is any wood that fits in the back of the transit, that is not rings or bar lengths
  20. I've got a 6 x 8 plastic greenhouse, its a slot together one came in 2ft sections have had it 4-5 years and no problems with the plastics, only problem is it lost its door last year as the hinges were only fabric ones and strong wind took it off, still grows everything alright though
  21. Bought one of the roughneck mauls couple of years back, one of best mauls I've used although still prefer my roughneck axe is only about 4lb but have had it about 15 years and has split no end of timber
  22. Plenty of wood coming off site cllearances now the building job is picking up again, you just need to join the queue of timber faeries that appear everytime we start one
  23. 2 out of 7 here and probly two of the hardest workers
  24. This any good to you? Fuel Hose for Husqvarna 357XP 359 Chainsaws | Husqvarna 357XP/359 Chainsaw Spares
  25. Thats the reason there are so many kids who grow up wanting to be a celebrity or a footballer instead of learning real skills and working for a living
