  1. how would be the best way to wash ropes? i know most people say they never need to bother, but doing some aerial rescue practice up at myerscough on monday and my rope was one of the ropes there for people to use, it was wet and muddy and my rope (which was a fairly clean looking blaze) is now stuffed full of mud and crap, and im wondering whats the best way to wash it?
  2. well, at lest the leak in the roof was fixed. by that i mean, there is no roof to get a leak in, so is the problem fixed or not?
  3. remember its not how big your tool is, its what you can do with it!
  4. i think you have a deal there How do you want the payment?
  5. i did actually read the europe gaff too, with US trees like the redwoods having thick bark, they will have a longer gaff to get through it so the spikes would work more effectively, with most european trees (beech, ash) having thinner bark then there is no need for a long gaff. So there is a shorter one available.
  6. i used a silver bull small hip bag that did fit wel onto my harness, but i found when squeezing through a tight fork or when there was lots of little branches it got in the way slightly, and went back to a 3m line for my lanyard instead. now its there just incase i need it, i had 10m of scorch rope in it, with room for another 5m or so.
  7. there are no branches to anchor to, plus if there was, im unsure of the quality of it or the strength t the top, so spikes seem to be the better option, plus its on the edge of a woodland, with persmission from the gamekeeper im allowed to use it. there is no access for a mewp
  8. thanks for that one, i think that sealed it for me, i may just buy those, will have to dig into my savings and put to to get those for sure!
  9. Looking around at hb, gustharts and at treeworker. The lowest price seems to be around 164 which was on gustharts. They were for the steel bashlins. I saw these on treeworker Climbing Spurs - Treeworker.co.uk the ones that caught my eye were the aluminium ones. For an extra £26 I could get something that is lighter and possibly comfier. eBay had little on offer and not that many were good prices for what you were getting IMO. What are your opinions on the ally gecko ones?
  10. Waste of time, their trackies would block up the chipper and then you would have to clean it out. Not to mention they might catch the roller stopper bar on the way in. They would just make it awkward.
  11. Hey guys. The time has come that I need to do some spiking. The tree of choice is a pine which has had a bit of wind damage at the top and the only way to access the top to free the lump of wood left there is to spike it. My main question is what are the best comfy but good value spikes to buy. If I could I would try and afford the bling bling carbon fibre ones but it's not my money that's buying them. So cheap as possible but still good for comfort. Also, long or short gaffs? Cheers
  12. that was an interesting read, nice to know that where thousands of trees go each year that they are actually utilising more of it than just the cellulose! Paer companies put all the foresty comission logos on their packets, but they burn a significant amount of the tree (the lignin) then are they actually being environmentally friendly?
  13. i had one of the older models when they first came out, i bought it from the APF show in 2008. Only to find 9 months later that it was only rated for top impact and the straps werent the right style. I bought one of the stein helmets you see flashing up on the right hand side of the page here and its very comfy, i understand about the suspended cradle in the petzl, but having never used one for a great length, i cant compare the two, in a safety point of view i could probaly see the petzl as a little better but its all swings and roundabouts. People will comment on the clear/solid visor that the stein has, the problem i have with that visor is that when you get dirt on the helmet and you are closing and opening the visor, it ends up getting terribly scratched and marked. But there are mesh visors available, which i decided to buy, and never looked back. The mesh visor and earmuff combo are the same as the petzl i think, the only thing im missing off my helmet is the cover that sits on top of the visor to stop debris falling behind it from above.
  14. well if theres no claimants to the winning then im sure there are other people who will happily claim them? (me?)
  15. it has all started turning into ice up here in the north west, we get a day of sun, it melts and then what is sat as water then decides to freeze with a bitter frost overnight, and it turns horrible again.
  16. the chat wont load for me. seems like the server is a bit busy? will the results be posted anywhere else?
  17. Kaspersky I use avira premium security suite, has email protection, firewall, prevents attacks and has a good antivirus and you can set it super sensetive so it thinks a word document could be a virus. But its still pretty good at medium settings. its £25 for a years licence, steer away from windows live onecare, i had nothing but problems with that, for the £38 they want a year, all it did was complain that i never backed anything up, and hardly ever found a virus, it was just lazy. If you want to give it a try, then download the trial from their website Personal firewall and anti spam in anti virus Security Suite - Avira AntiVir the features are listed there (and here) AntiVir stops all types of viruses AntiAd/Spyware eliminates ad/spyware AntiPhishing proactive protection against phising AntiRootkit against hidden rootkit threats AntiDrive-by prevents against downloading viruses when surfing AntiBot prevents dangerous bot networks EmailScannerEnhanced email protection WebGuard protection against malicious websites RescueSystem create a bootable rescue CD BackupSystem configurable data backup solution AntiSpam filters out unwanted emails FireWall protection against hackers GameMode uninterrupted game play QuickRemoval eliminate viruses at the push of a button NEW! 18. the learning and skills council, im not sure of the procedure but im sure if you phoned them or emailed then you could find some way of maybe claiming some back
  19. i cant decide whether its a good or bad thing that i paid twice, its for a good cause and its increased my chances, but ive spent twice as much as i wanted to. So its a tough call!
  20. is there no way you can source some funding through the LSC? the company i did my cs30-34 tickets were able to claim about 60% of it back, for each course for 3 people, which is quite a substantial saving!
  21. put another order through for £15, and then checked my emails to see if that went through, and the old one had also come through in the time between last checking and placing the order, which was a matter of seconds. so now ive paid £25 all in all
  22. hmm, seem to have nothing come through, ill resubmit the order
  23. steve my payment said it went through but i left the page open and checked it a bit later and its said i have to redo the payment? just so you are aware, is there any way to check its come through? just so there are definately 10 tickets with my name on!
  24. i know, wouldnt mind some yellow/black XTC, looks fancy fancy
  25. shows how much i read, i read that post aswell. bought £10 worth. My good karma for this year
