  1. I've got a friend who's mum is trying to get back from Dubai but is being held out there. I've heard it's not really a volcanic eruption. It's the cleaners at everton. They opened the trophy cabinet and the dust blew out!
  2. like i said, thats an old picture, ive got a radio in there, not taking kindly to damp air though, and with it being a steel container, it messes with the radio signals. giving me a weak radio experience. Ive got a bench chain grinder, but thats all smashed to bits. need time off college to fix everything, in the meantime i have two wooden blocks and i knock a field vice into one, and have a guide bar sharpener, gives the best sharpen i can get from anything. all angles are perfect. Theres an airline there aswell, its inside another workshop so theres loads of tools and things already there, this is not getting much attention due to my college work.
  3. i cant fault mine, even over spikes it works well, the scabbard does slip out sometimes but if you get the velcro really tight it never budges. best £25 spent, makes things easier.
  4. surprisingly no, the container used to house an old generator, so there are a few big vents, one in the roof (look in picture 1) theres a small hole for an exhaust pipe at one side, and two huge air intake vents either side but ive covered them up. It seems like moisture might have got under the paint, but i never checked the roof when it arrived so idk if its happened recently. i dont use a heater in there anymore although i would fancy a small one. the big halogen one i had was good for drying ropes as it gave out loads of heat evenly. but it got sold. Im currently in the slow process of building shelves to put saws on so then under the bench is clear to store kit bags and stuff
  5. heres mine before it was all properly finished, it still looks similar, need to update the photos.
  6. i keep telling myself that, ive popped my shoulder out briefly twice now, and it leaves me spinning for a couple of days after it, i fell off a little scooter when i was a kid and landed quite hard on my right shoulder. its been a bit loose around the joint since, now my left is starting to play up. the left is the one that has popped out twice, and its painful after it happens. i still need to get my body properly into climbing, ive always been physically fit from growing up on a farm ive always been active and got good body strength. Stamina is the worst thing though.
  7. I'm 19. Just getting in to more regular climbing. I've got a lot of respect for the guys hitting 50 and still being regular climbers. I have some joint problems so sometimes I really ache. But I'll get used to it.
  8. If your that worried about your gear. Change it. Find a different landy. Or change the current one a bit. If they have your reg plate you could get a private one? You just have to put up with them. I'm forever told my the other half don't go shouting things to people because you really do NEVER KNOW what they can or will do. Bar all that, keep a blunt instrument I.e a small log. Oak deadwood maybe as it's so bloody solid! You can justify why it's in the vehicle, you work with the stuff all day. And it's a good self defence.
  9. i was expecting something that was caught from a dodgy night out!
  10. Id put myself at a 2. I do say I'm envious of the knowledge of hama and mokeyd regarding the funghi ident and general ident and also their skills at work. Although I do have some knowledge thanks to the fdsc course so far. I just want to learn so much more.
  11. some beech a before and after, large branch wanted removing, will be monitoring this as they wanted two fair size branches coming off, will be popping back during the season and next year to see how she grows. Had to do a bit of rigging, it went right, but i was a bit naughty with it. Didnt think i needed to lower anything, but then realised i had to, used what i had in my kit, if i didnt lowe anything he would have had a destroyed pond, fence and garden furniture. I used my head for everything went perfect, although i would have preferred some proper rigging gear. I was careful not to overload everything!
  12. even that, scousers back in the day could have made it possible! a stolen car woul dhave just been littered everywhere, as per usual
  13. ive had that. carving a mushroom out of al old piece of beech, the piece which was being carved was approx 2ft across from about half way up the tree, about 8 inches in there is a solid piece of metal, which i believe to be shrapnel. The tree was taken from liverpool so theres a good chance!
  14. Hi there just been prcing up some kit but cant find where i can claim my AA member discount? your name is in the member benefits catalogue. Which says i can claim 15% off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Nice job on those hedges ed, i would have given up on the top bits, im not all that tall so it would be done up to where the cutters would reach! the facial expression there is PRICELESS!! made me lose my brew!
  16. i have found people sometimes, ive got to the top and been like oh look another person
  17. ive got one like this:
  18. Hama im on the onsite course so if you need any help you can just email me or message me on here [email protected] if you want to drop a line i can help with the lab notes and stuff. Im not the most academic myself, im only academic because im still young and have the mindfram for it really. I struggle to get the merits and distinctions as i tend to get distracted! But i just plod along and i am finding it a bit better at making time to work instead of hoping i get time. You will come round to it, from what i can see on here you do know your stuff, the work related stuff should be a breeze for you, there are guys on my course who have sat in an office for the past 20 years and when it comes to work side of things it bewilders them. i would say you have more of an advantage than some people on this course.
  19. I think we have as much. Worst day is Thursday. Start at 9.15 for an hour on soils. Then 10.15-11-15 on plant biology. 11.30-12.15 seminar. 1-3 lab practical. Arb principles 3-5. Very theory filled. Can never take it all in! I'm surprised that I am learning something though. How do the soils and plants modules work online? Are you given the results and then you write those up?
  20. There is that. We don't get much choice really. You have to do the work skills too then? We could choose a controversial issue too. I chose training and cpd. Worked out ok. Mine had to be in on the 10/3 though. Handing in my dendrology tomorrow! The dendrology leaf collection assignment is worth 25% of the total module marks. Which for the amount of effort put in is unacceptable and has been complained about!
  21. which assignment is that? Do the online students do a different work skills assignment to the full time?
  22. now ed, my shitroen would have done better! and thats got half worn wide low profile tyres on it you could buy a secondhand tracked APC, and fit a box on it, carry a lot of chip, kit and will never get stuck
  23. well most mid range trators of recent age (JD 6030 series and other equivalent) will have a 40k box, which is only 24/25mph, ive took one at that speed on a 50mile trip to lancaster, just keeping an eye on who was behind me and pulling over in laybys from time to time, get all sorts of 'salutes' as the drivers go past. WE also have a smaller kubota 2350 which is a compact tractor, it does about 8mph at full speed, and its road legal.
  24. Ive been looking on ebay, and looking at the black widow catapults, and was wondering how good this would be at launching a throwline? or some other small weighted bag with the string attached. I cant afford the big shot and cant justify it as of yet. My aim is good with the throwline, but sometimes it takes its time to get there and it gets fustrating sometimes! what would you think? one of these: BARNETT BLACK WIDOW SLINGSHOT CATAPULT + AMMO NEW LOT on eBay (end time 13-Apr-10 20:00:00 BST)
  25. There is also Rob Malcomson at myerscough in preston, unsure of his number though!
