Thanks
  4. i think it can border on trespassing if doing it without permission, but im sure if a couple of you go to the ranger and ask then usually they should be ok, but it differs with places really. Just dont go on your own.
  5. thats just showing off, ive been shown one of those systems on a demo day JD did a few years ago when they brought out the 6020, 7020 and 8020 series, i think i was 13 and i was sat in the captains seat of an 8520 with half tracks, starfire and a 6 furrow plough, what a set up that was weve mainly done turf work, we have a 6330 on contract hire from FG Rowlands and we have a 2.6m vertidrain on the back, works great, shame it can only run a 40k box. a 50 mile trip to lancaster took 3 hours
  6. I've had every generation so far. The 3gs is so much quicker and the camera is as good as you expect. If your gonna get any game, get angry birds! I've heard the rumour about the new one. I believe it could be june or July. Apple always seem to do it around then. I would buy a sturdy case with some holes in it, tie a piece of old throwline to it and clip it to my harness so pictures can be taken when up the tree. It's always good to post stuff on facebook with a picture looking out over an area!
  7. That's a very good addition and that will help me in looking at things from a different angle. I'm trying to look around the subject and not just at it. I think that's some of the beat information I could have. I think it will end up being a very thorough report methinks! How on earth can I fit all this into 1000 words! Thanks a lot Paul. Very helpful.
  8. As you all know, there are many different issues in and around our industry, and lucky me, im doing a report and a presentation on a chosen subject. Im not looking for the answers here, im pretty certain which topic i am choosing. here is a copy of the scenario I have been given: You work for a specialist arboricultural consultancy. There has been a great deal of discussion raised over a particular aspect of Health and Safety legislation that the consultancy regularly deals with. You are considered to be the foremost expert in the consultancy regarding that particular matter. You have been asked directly by your CEO, to produce a report that reflects on the controversial issue, and to produce a presentation that will be used to inform your work colleagues about this Health and Safety requirement. The presentation should be written from the point of view of how it will affect you personally. From this, i have decided that i will look into the training of employees and how the improper training has an impact on the immediate people, such as an improperly trained employee felling a tree and it damaging property, hurting a colleague or hurting/maiming themselves, and then either party trying to claim compensation. Its an issue which extends quite deeply into the role of training and CPD within the industry. After looking therough the AFAG guides section of the HSE website, i have found some references i can use and it also gives me some case studies. I am looking for the views of other people in the industry, as my view is not very experienced and seeking the views and opinions of people who do have their own businesses and have probably dealt with situations similar to this. like i said, im not going to copy and paste your views straight into my report, im looking for more information which would help me to achieve the higher marks by considering other options and also by looking around the issue at problem solving and also accident prevention. Thanks, any comments which help on this matter are greatly appreciated, and i will be referencing these posts in the assignment whereever possible!
  9. Im sure the object is to not cut through it in the first place?!
  10. i use the oregon version of the on the bar one, i find it ok, but the chain lifts to the side as you sharpen, and makes it awkward to get a good proper sharpen on it, you can turn the files easily, and i find it quicker than other ways. It doesnt give as accurate a sharpen as the bench mounted 240v grinder though. But that stihl bench mounted one is in the middle and looks fancy. My only squabble about it is that it needs to hold the chain still for it to sharpen well and give a good edge on it, the only ways i can do that is by tightening the side screws up to pin the chain up each time i do a cutter which would take ages or tighten the chain up real tight to pull it into the bar and make it stiffer.
  11. can you find out a price for a fan at all? if anything that is the piece i need most, along with the cover.
  12. Pn 23736a hand sharpener 39497 small screw 38654 big screw 38651 small screw opposite side Bench grinder Pn 106540 G003 fan cover Price for motor g002 no part no. For fan itself if you can make sense of that. That's what I noted down in my phone when looking through. There were no separate parts for any of the screws on the motor or for the fan itself. I would assume they come with the motor? If at all possible can you get a quote for the motor? Thanks
  13. heres the pictures, with a picture of the plate on the back too
  14. ok thanks jonesie. ill get some photos up tomorrow when im back in there.
  15. hi guys Had a bit of a mishap in the new container for all my gear, my dad was holding the chain grinder on the bench in its place where it will be fixed, but we had no bolts big enough to fit through the bench and the machine. AS i turned round to see if there were any bigger bolts anywhere, and he turned round aswell and let go of the grinder, with it already hanging over the edge. it decided the floor was a better place to be. The fan at the top has all smashed, bent one of the long bolts that run through down the side of the motor housing and smashed all the black covering for the fan. ive looked on the net but cant seem to find anywhere that sells spare parts. Does anybody know where or do they have any? Thanks. Its the Speed sharp 240v sharpener. i think its the same as the oregon ones.
  16. I have both the hiflex and stein. The combination of both is great for standing around in the cold. Stihl is waterproof to an extent. But love how the stein in lightweight and fully waterproof. Worked in the rain a tad this week. Been bone dry bar my gloves. Looks good with my stein helmet and hi viz stretch airs I would recommend the stein. I also have a regatta softshell £20 from tkmax. It's a great layer underneath the hiflex when it's cold. Bought a small instead of a medium. Is good for climbing as it's comfy and out the way
  17. so thats where i left it!
  18. is it the sirius? i dont mind buying some off your hands
  19. ive been told that stihl bars have a sealed bearing so there is no opportunity for dirt to get into the bearing, meaning there is no reason to grease, but husky bars have a different one so they need greasing.
  20. thanks for that. Best advice I could ask for! I've been discussing it with a few classmates and my dad and I'm choosing to go round a few estates where there seems to be a little more money around (and trees!). around some places I will be knocking on the doors and talking face to face with asany as possible. I've got photos of myself working on the leaflet so straight away the leaflet is more personal. I just don't know how many places to leaflet. I'll be using the few local chippys and stuff to get more people to see it hopefully. Plus with a 10% off offer on the leaflet if it's produced
  21. There's a guy I have worked with who has problems with his shoulder dislocating if he stretches too far. He has a modified version of these. His was an old fishing hook which a guy just cut the sharp end off and put a little round ball on the end. It extends to about 2m or so. It makes climbing a lot easier for him. For example if you get your rope over a good branch but you can't reach. Out comes the extendable arm and it's back to you in no time!
  22. what are your guys views on using lealets like this to attract some work? ive been putting together a small leaflet myself with information on work i can do, aiming for little domestic jobs for experience and to run my car and eating habits. I know there are people against this and i am looking for work in arb companies too, but my turn ahsnt come round for a place in those companies yet. so im looking to find some work myself. i know a few classmates with tickets and also know a few other people, so im not short of help if i need it. i just dont want to fall under the category of a leaflet pusher who knows how to start a saw and cut a piece of timber. and climb a tree with some bale twine and a rickety ladder.
  23. as long as the cup holder is ok, thats all that matters?!

  25. we had about 2 inches here in st helens. It hailstoned very heavily for about 10 minutes then changed to snow, leaving a pack of ice underneath it all. Then we had more snow overnight and all that packed hailstone then went soft, its almost all gone now, this was on saturday.
