  1. It looks like it would be a barstad to retrieve? It looks like both loops are the same size. It would make it very easy on the rope with there being two pulleys in it!
  2. new schedules come into play in new year, so he will most likely be learning the new one. My advice would be to go in open minded and take in as much as you can, ask too many questions, make sure you know what you are doing and your confidence will come quicker. if you start watching videos you will be thinking 'well if they do it that way then i will be ok' but remember people in those fancy videos tend to have massive amounts of experience!
  3. with helmets its 3 years from the first use, ive been told to write the month and year down on the first use, and then count three years from that. all my kit needs lolering soon. I think myerscough can do it for free
  4. the treemotion does have a good solution. The tree austria 2 harness (i think thats what its called) has a second set of rings aswell which are similar to the petzl but the rings stick out more and are more obviously a second set of rings. I will have to try out this method when i next climb, which could be in the new year. Well with the worn out harness, the rings may not necessarily be worn, but it could be some stitching or something causing it to be put out of use, the rings should last a lifetime i would reckon.
  5. Maybe wait till someone is getting rid of it and buy it for a cheap price and steal the parts? If they aren't worn out anyway!
  6. Yeah that's what I mean. But recalling what he said, that's why the QuickDraw and a maillon rapide seem like a good idea. I would assume that when going onto the lanyard that it would be possible just to check where thekrab was going to pull against to check it wasn't going to pinch the bridge fabric? I've not had a chance to try it yet. But when I donill have to see how well it works. Surely petzl would have looked into this matter of metal against fabric?
  7. if you look at the ratings on the label there, you can see on the brass rings that there is a trillion attached by a carabiner to one side and another carabiner going to the other side, so this would eliminate the need for a QuickDraw and the need for any other chunks of metal. Because it's designed to be an extra set anyway?!
  8. That probably would have been andy mcloughlin, he does assessments mainly, its probably dennis addy who will train you
  9. you will have to find me if you can whenyour down at myerscough. Who is it thats instructing you?
  10. i am at myerscough college doing arb there, if you are doing short courses then they do require you use your own tools. But if you are a student you can use and abuse all theirs. Harness wise, for beginners you cant go wrong with a Petzl Navaho Boss, get it with the optional full chest harness aswell. If you are climbing thereaswell, there are some good trees, use your own harness and their ropes!
  11. it seems a good base todo whatever you want, plenty room to turn it into a mobile home! but for 11k and the age of it, no thanks. Its got more colours than a badly decorated house...
  12. What a bar steward. It sucks being broken into. It's happened to me. Luckily what was stolen was tracked and with the aid of a copper chopper we got it back within hours!
  13. ahh, that label. i do still have that on. I was just messing with my ropes and stuff (hanging off the bannister!!) and i saw the label but didnt acknowledge it. At least i know which one! i came to a conclusion that my bannister is strong enough to hold a person, even though my dad thinks different! i have one, i have a metal ring also, depending how im climbing at the time. I switch between the two, ive usually climbed on a blakes but im dabbling with the VT a bit, the only thing annoying me is how temperamental it is, even just hanging around in the hall it was strugling to bite, and when it did, i moved up and the next time it was loose again. anybody combined a swivel with a backpack blower? id love to see that.
  14. try the book 'Physiology of Woody plants 2nd/3rd edition' i used it for an assignment and its got everything you will probably need. Another one is Up by roots, ive not read it but i do hear its very good
  15. conifers use tracheids to transport water, where broadleaves use xylem and phloem
  16. the worst thing about that video was that... he couldnt use his insole again OH THE HUMANITY!
  17. ive bought a couple of quickdraws, came to 7.50 with postage. A thought i had about it would be that you would have to pick it up to be able to clip in because the quickdraw would hang down no? also, i was looking at a maillon rapide instead because its half the price of a shackle! i have actually never noticed that label. i probably have, but i cant remember it. if it was stiched on then its still there, but i cant remember anything. if it was sticky then it came off a loooonnnggg time ago!
  18. oh yeah, St helens merseyside, ive got a car and i am willing to drive, not crazy far though
  19. toe what extent do you think you can drag these cheesy jokes out for?
  20. Hey guys im looking for some climbing experience, i was going to be working with an arborist this week and over the next few months but things have taken a bad turn and now none of that will happen. hmm. so now im just looking for work really, ive got 3 free weeks now apart from weekends and i just want some work, ive got a full set of climbing gear and my own ms260. im trained in cs39 so i can use a saw up there as long as theres a guy on the ground whos got the ticket. looking forward to opportunities, ill turn my hand to anything cheers!
  21. i would assume they are rated the same, as the bridge is attached to them! I hop ethey are anyway. for two shackles and two quickdraws, what would you say the cost is?
  22. Thanks for the answers and that amazing tip. I think I will be trying that out. So it's ok to run the carabiners onto those little shackles? I'm aware of the no metal to metal. That's why I was asking mainly, as I have a friend who uses the treemotion which has two sets of d's. And the idea of converting those rings on my sequoia seems a great idea. Another question, when would you use the extra set of rings? I'm guessing you could use them as normal on changeovers as a replacement for the other d rings? This I'm guessing would give an advantage to using two lanyards. One on each set?
  23. Hi guys ive been using the sequioa harness for a few months now, its a very comfy and good harness to use i think. But my query is with the side d attachments. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but i just cant come to a conclusion on it myself. are the brass coloured rings at either side of the bridge an extra set of d rings for a lanyard? so far ive been thinking no, because they arent the same type of construction compared to the proper side ds thanks
  24. If theres anybody up in the merseyside area, my family runs a business of selling chrismat trees, we grow our own fraser firs, ship in a couple thousand nordman firs, some norway spruce, some scots pine. We shift most of them too, the price has rocketed over the last couple of years, a 6ft nordman 5 years ago would have been less than £30 depending on the quality, now they are knocking £40-45. We charge £7.50/ft for those, and for anything over 10ft because of the cost we bought them in at we have to charge £14/ft! the pricing has gone silly over the last few years. if your in the area and looking for a tree i can do you a deal if you say you are from here!
  25. no i dont really, can honestly say ive never been. I live 2 minutes from the place but never been to it, never been interested in sports.
