  1. i may be blind, but where can i buy the tickets/make a donation? also, how are the prizes given out and chosen? excuse my ignorance!
  2. i thought coral spot (nectria cinnabarina (sp?)) only colonised on dead wood/dead oak branches? I could be wrong, but thats what i was told.
  3. of course they are chainsaw proof, if you turn up wearing one of them you wont be let anywhere near a chainsaw! ive just invested in a HH dry thermal top, im not doing much work so im a bit reluctant to go and spend big money on loads of layers that probably wont get worn ten times in a month. TK Maxx has some good regatta windproof/water repellant jackets, ive bought one in a small instead of a medium and prefer it so much more to any other jacket, huge pockets with zips, warm, and doesnt intrude!
  4. very tempting, ive been wanting to climb for the past few weeks but because of weather and lack of a climbing buddy close by its been a struggle. but with the christmas break over soon ill be back at myerscough on the 11th, with a full day of aerial rescue then and possibly spiking the week after. spiking just hasngt seemed to be my thing, i dont know what it is, i just cant trust the spikes properly, but it all comes with confidence, go back 6 months and i couldnt climb with any great deal of confidence, now i am fine and i am like a monkey in the trees
  5. my resolution is to pass my cs39 and to get some more time spiking because ive got no confidence in it yet and need to! Congrats to the people who have quit smoking!
  6. Might try this out. There is another way of getting 50% off too. Leave the mrs at home!
  7. Yeah it would certainly be the side impact protection. I use my own set of kit when I climb at Myerscough, mainly because it's all mine and I know what work it's done, how it's been treated and stored. And I use one of the stein helmets. I struggle using one of the husky lids on the ground. I just love the comfort of the stein and with a mesh visor instead of the clear or smoked one it's a great combination
  8. i found that out too, 174 for me
  9. interesting, would certainly be something to consider if working in woodland maybe?
  10. get one of these:
  11. wedont have any innertubes lying around so thats why a bag was used, its only on grass with a few lumps and bumps, the christmas trees are all drilled into the ground so there are lots of small mounts of soil but its not too bad. Helmets take the fun out of it! The back axle is completely enclosed so no worry of that, it was just a loop tied around the tow ball. Made for some great boredom busting!
  12. What have you guys been doing to keep yourselves entertained in the snow? this is what i did today <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnDk2d2hyk4&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnDk2d2hyk4&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object> I don think this is going to work, can somebody sort it out for me please? im not sure how to embed vids! thanks!
  13. It looks like it would be a barstad to retrieve? It looks like both loops are the same size. It would make it very easy on the rope with there being two pulleys in it!
  14. new schedules come into play in new year, so he will most likely be learning the new one. My advice would be to go in open minded and take in as much as you can, ask too many questions, make sure you know what you are doing and your confidence will come quicker. if you start watching videos you will be thinking 'well if they do it that way then i will be ok' but remember people in those fancy videos tend to have massive amounts of experience!
  15. with helmets its 3 years from the first use, ive been told to write the month and year down on the first use, and then count three years from that. all my kit needs lolering soon. I think myerscough can do it for free
  16. the treemotion does have a good solution. The tree austria 2 harness (i think thats what its called) has a second set of rings aswell which are similar to the petzl but the rings stick out more and are more obviously a second set of rings. I will have to try out this method when i next climb, which could be in the new year. Well with the worn out harness, the rings may not necessarily be worn, but it could be some stitching or something causing it to be put out of use, the rings should last a lifetime i would reckon.
  17. Maybe wait till someone is getting rid of it and buy it for a cheap price and steal the parts? If they aren't worn out anyway!
  18. Yeah that's what I mean. But recalling what he said, that's why the QuickDraw and a maillon rapide seem like a good idea. I would assume that when going onto the lanyard that it would be possible just to check where thekrab was going to pull against to check it wasn't going to pinch the bridge fabric? I've not had a chance to try it yet. But when I donill have to see how well it works. Surely petzl would have looked into this matter of metal against fabric?
  19. if you look at the ratings on the label there, you can see on the brass rings that there is a trillion attached by a carabiner to one side and another carabiner going to the other side, so this would eliminate the need for a QuickDraw and the need for any other chunks of metal. Because it's designed to be an extra set anyway?!
  20. That probably would have been andy mcloughlin, he does assessments mainly, its probably dennis addy who will train you
  21. you will have to find me if you can whenyour down at myerscough. Who is it thats instructing you?
  22. i am at myerscough college doing arb there, if you are doing short courses then they do require you use your own tools. But if you are a student you can use and abuse all theirs. Harness wise, for beginners you cant go wrong with a Petzl Navaho Boss, get it with the optional full chest harness aswell. If you are climbing thereaswell, there are some good trees, use your own harness and their ropes!
  23. it seems a good base todo whatever you want, plenty room to turn it into a mobile home! but for 11k and the age of it, no thanks. Its got more colours than a badly decorated house...
  24. What a bar steward. It sucks being broken into. It's happened to me. Luckily what was stolen was tracked and with the aid of a copper chopper we got it back within hours!
  25. ahh, that label. i do still have that on. I was just messing with my ropes and stuff (hanging off the bannister!!) and i saw the label but didnt acknowledge it. At least i know which one! i came to a conclusion that my bannister is strong enough to hold a person, even though my dad thinks different! i have one, i have a metal ring also, depending how im climbing at the time. I switch between the two, ive usually climbed on a blakes but im dabbling with the VT a bit, the only thing annoying me is how temperamental it is, even just hanging around in the hall it was strugling to bite, and when it did, i moved up and the next time it was loose again. anybody combined a swivel with a backpack blower? id love to see that.
