  1. i had one of the older models when they first came out, i bought it from the APF show in 2008. Only to find 9 months later that it was only rated for top impact and the straps werent the right style. I bought one of the stein helmets you see flashing up on the right hand side of the page here and its very comfy, i understand about the suspended cradle in the petzl, but having never used one for a great length, i cant compare the two, in a safety point of view i could probaly see the petzl as a little better but its all swings and roundabouts. People will comment on the clear/solid visor that the stein has, the problem i have with that visor is that when you get dirt on the helmet and you are closing and opening the visor, it ends up getting terribly scratched and marked. But there are mesh visors available, which i decided to buy, and never looked back. The mesh visor and earmuff combo are the same as the petzl i think, the only thing im missing off my helmet is the cover that sits on top of the visor to stop debris falling behind it from above.
  2. well if theres no claimants to the winning then im sure there are other people who will happily claim them? (me?)
  3. it has all started turning into ice up here in the north west, we get a day of sun, it melts and then what is sat as water then decides to freeze with a bitter frost overnight, and it turns horrible again.
  4. the chat wont load for me. seems like the server is a bit busy? will the results be posted anywhere else?
  5. Kaspersky I use avira premium security suite, has email protection, firewall, prevents attacks and has a good antivirus and you can set it super sensetive so it thinks a word document could be a virus. But its still pretty good at medium settings. its £25 for a years licence, steer away from windows live onecare, i had nothing but problems with that, for the £38 they want a year, all it did was complain that i never backed anything up, and hardly ever found a virus, it was just lazy. If you want to give it a try, then download the trial from their website Personal firewall and anti spam in anti virus Security Suite - Avira AntiVir the features are listed there (and here) AntiVir stops all types of viruses AntiAd/Spyware eliminates ad/spyware AntiPhishing proactive protection against phising AntiRootkit against hidden rootkit threats AntiDrive-by prevents against downloading viruses when surfing AntiBot prevents dangerous bot networks EmailScannerEnhanced email protection WebGuard protection against malicious websites RescueSystem create a bootable rescue CD BackupSystem configurable data backup solution AntiSpam filters out unwanted emails FireWall protection against hackers GameMode uninterrupted game play QuickRemoval eliminate viruses at the push of a button NEW! 6. the learning and skills council, im not sure of the procedure but im sure if you phoned them or emailed then you could find some way of maybe claiming some back
  7. i cant decide whether its a good or bad thing that i paid twice, its for a good cause and its increased my chances, but ive spent twice as much as i wanted to. So its a tough call!
  8. is there no way you can source some funding through the LSC? the company i did my cs30-34 tickets were able to claim about 60% of it back, for each course for 3 people, which is quite a substantial saving!
  9. put another order through for £15, and then checked my emails to see if that went through, and the old one had also come through in the time between last checking and placing the order, which was a matter of seconds. so now ive paid £25 all in all
  10. hmm, seem to have nothing come through, ill resubmit the order
  11. steve my payment said it went through but i left the page open and checked it a bit later and its said i have to redo the payment? just so you are aware, is there any way to check its come through? just so there are definately 10 tickets with my name on!
  12. i know, wouldnt mind some yellow/black XTC, looks fancy fancy
  13. shows how much i read, i read that post aswell. bought £10 worth. My good karma for this year
  14. i may be blind, but where can i buy the tickets/make a donation? also, how are the prizes given out and chosen? excuse my ignorance!
  15. i thought coral spot (nectria cinnabarina (sp?)) only colonised on dead wood/dead oak branches? I could be wrong, but thats what i was told.
  16. of course they are chainsaw proof, if you turn up wearing one of them you wont be let anywhere near a chainsaw! ive just invested in a HH dry thermal top, im not doing much work so im a bit reluctant to go and spend big money on loads of layers that probably wont get worn ten times in a month. TK Maxx has some good regatta windproof/water repellant jackets, ive bought one in a small instead of a medium and prefer it so much more to any other jacket, huge pockets with zips, warm, and doesnt intrude!
  17. very tempting, ive been wanting to climb for the past few weeks but because of weather and lack of a climbing buddy close by its been a struggle. but with the christmas break over soon ill be back at myerscough on the 11th, with a full day of aerial rescue then and possibly spiking the week after. spiking just hasngt seemed to be my thing, i dont know what it is, i just cant trust the spikes properly, but it all comes with confidence, go back 6 months and i couldnt climb with any great deal of confidence, now i am fine and i am like a monkey in the trees
  18. my resolution is to pass my cs39 and to get some more time spiking because ive got no confidence in it yet and need to! Congrats to the people who have quit smoking!
  19. Might try this out. There is another way of getting 50% off too. Leave the mrs at home!
  20. Yeah it would certainly be the side impact protection. I use my own set of kit when I climb at Myerscough, mainly because it's all mine and I know what work it's done, how it's been treated and stored. And I use one of the stein helmets. I struggle using one of the husky lids on the ground. I just love the comfort of the stein and with a mesh visor instead of the clear or smoked one it's a great combination
  21. i found that out too, 174 for me
  22. interesting, would certainly be something to consider if working in woodland maybe?
  23. get one of these:
  24. wedont have any innertubes lying around so thats why a bag was used, its only on grass with a few lumps and bumps, the christmas trees are all drilled into the ground so there are lots of small mounts of soil but its not too bad. Helmets take the fun out of it! The back axle is completely enclosed so no worry of that, it was just a loop tied around the tow ball. Made for some great boredom busting!
  25. What have you guys been doing to keep yourselves entertained in the snow? this is what i did today <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnDk2d2hyk4&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnDk2d2hyk4&hl=en_GB&fs=1&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object> I don think this is going to work, can somebody sort it out for me please? im not sure how to embed vids! thanks!
