  1. Well i had about 10 minutes to waste before a lecture, so i went and photod this old fella. Dropped a branch in summer 09, I had heard of it having merip too, which i confirmed for myself, found what appears to be ganoderma from what i could see, was very awkward to get a photograph of it, and some Porcelain Mushroom too, on the major lower lateral, i took a photo of the underneath, is that fibre buckling? seems to be rippled, and also on some other limbs. Dont think theres much life left in this old guy. Although these trees do surprise us! Apologies for bad shots, thought they turned out ok but viewing on the PC i didnt do too well!
  2. Sorry yeah. I keep seeing your avatar and it reminds of stevie Blair posing in his helmet so I keep thinking it's him. Ah well. Easy mistake!
  3. No I'm not. I drive to site. I dont drive to earn money. Driving is just part of the work that makes me money!
  4. it is shocking at the quality of driving with some people, not to beat down a stereotype, but i find executives in their german 2 Ltr saloons seem to care more about themselves and keeping their speed over 85 on the motorway, than being a bit polite and letting you out into the lane they are in. If you look at people who drive for a living, the standard is truly shocking, ive nearly been sideswiped by a wagon on the motorway because he decided he wanted to stay on the motorway as he was going up the slip road and nearly caused a pile up. Taxi drivers, when they have no passengers, can be ABISMAL. From driving tractors the past couple of years now, mainly fairly long journeys, been up to lancaster, to manchester a few times and down to crewe. People do completely daft overtaking and it seems to bring out the worst in people. i was driving on a B road and there was nowhere suitable to stop for a good 25 minutes, when i did finally find a layby, out of about 40 cars, i think 2 or 3 waved thanks, the rest just seemed irate and one wagon driver clapped sarcastically at me. but what can we do? theres not enough traffic police to catch the real numpties until they are caught out and the good people get caught up in it!
  5. steve, why the hammer? lorry youve done well with two minutes
  6. When you can't find everything you brought to site!
  7. Buy cheap and you buy twice springs to mind. I can see the industry being 'cleaned' in a way. The people who can't keep their heads up will go and the stronger and better one man bands and firms will continue. Leaving more work available for the smaller amount of firms still going. I've just set up. So I'm not getting much in. I see all these guys with big tree jobs most days and I have had one in a few months!
  8. i find they are very grippy compared to my blue ridge. much comfier too, im a 10 in most shoes, i bought a 9 so they are better on my feet as im a bit in the middle on some pairs. wearing thick socks by feet dont have the room to move and rub, not had a bad day in them yet.
  9. Just do that. Much cheaper! Those do look like a good idea. Even for unloading kit at the end of the day out of a pickup.
  10. He must have struggled to do that as his balls must have weighed a ton! I wonder how many trips it took him to get it all to the tip in his fiesta?
  11. Very pretty. I may purchase one if they come out at an affordable price!
  12. Oh dear. I have indeed! Aren't we going to look special haha
  13. Oh dear. Now we will match! Good choice though. I was stood ankle deep in water today in the pouring rain. My feet were the driest part of me!
  14. Hi eddie I've got a 24" bar and I'm over in Liverpool with means to travel. I have access to a timberwolf 12" pto300h. I've got no problem using a 24" bar on a 3ft tree.
  15. i thought theyd all been felled
  16. who decided to do that to the tranny? they seem like a candidate for sitting in the passesnger seat from now on!
  17. The advice i would give would be see if you can get one of these contractors to give you some trial work, see how you feel about climbing, in exchange for free labour. If you like it, you may be able to stay with them and they will train you on the job and you will get more into it. If you cant do that, start with cs30/21 and then go to cs38/39. thats the simplest way to be able to do it, but without some training and climbing time with other companies you will struggle to get off the ground.
  18. Surely with a gross of 3.5ton you'd only be able to carry your kit and be on the limit?
  19. This makes all yours look really tidy! We just havent had a chance to process it all!
  20. Iirc it's pseudomonas syringae pv prunsmorum that affects cherry
  21. My silky gomtaro 240mm is good for small stuff and was pretty much bang on £30 from honey bros. Didn't check anywhere else but you may get it elsewhere cheaper
  22. Something similar to the myhammer site? I joined that but it was so much hassle trying to get verified. They wouldn't accept my bank statement as proof of address as I'd blacked out all my important numbers. Even though they didn't need them! I've not hears of rated people. I don't really like those sites as anybody can quote! I was seeing people with builders certs and no relevant nptc qualifications quoting silly money for jobs!
  23. From what I've seen of them they would be done by a rather strong machine. What rope is it you want to splice?
  24. What do you mean by rated people?
  25. Deepest condolences littletree. Only time can help you deal with things like it. Is may not heal them. But you learn how to cope. I'm sure everyone will agree when I say we are all here for you as colleagues, friends and fellow arbtalkers
