  1. heres a pic of the pile of laburnum. average size is about 6" across and 4' long
  2. ive got some bergaus wet gear, matching pants and jacket, both breathable, good when the heavens open for business. If i just want a jacket ive got a regatta waterproof which i got from TK maxx for £25
  3. thats right, by bracing it you are admitting there is something wrong with the tree that requires it to be held together, so it wouldnt stand up too well against mr insurance if stuff went down the pan
  4. i would personally push to get tid of it, expalin the benefits of removing and replanting a better specimen. As with bracing, you know there is a problem, the bracing just prevents the worst from happening. It doesnt stop it and its not a permanent solution, as the tree could fail somewhere else!
  5. With regards to the spraying. I used to drive quad bikes down footpaths in all sorts of places. Busy paths empty alleyways with people walking directly behind me and passing by with pets with my boom on. I've had people stop me and kick off saying their dogs been ill but all I can say is it's pretty harmless and it wont kill your pets! We only used weedspraying signs stuck on the back of the bikes. All we needed. I'd agree with the disc slicing and then filling the stump. Would create better conditions for it to soak in. For rain fastness in 10-15 minutes. We use a sticking/wetting agent called headland guard pro. Good stuff. Needs very low amounts to be at the correct concentration.
  6. Not one to be playing up the tree on your lunch though!
  7. I think they were pruning spikes. Seemed like the back of the tree anyway!
  8. There's plenty wood here now ranging from 2" up to 10"! Good load in the back of my pickup. The bottom part of the stem has a split in the middle unfortunately as it seems as though the tree had honey fungus. There is a fair weight to it all too. Pics tomorrow!
  9. It's for ventilation! Honest!
  10. I thought that as I was putting it together. Plus you'd only be attached to 1 layer of fabric which I'm sure isn't good!
  11. the gold rings are in fact rated as side Ds, look at the label, the side ds have the same EN number as the gold rings, odd really! how about this for a mod, dont know whether i would actually trust it though because of where its connected to the bridge? what do you think? its nice with the maillons, they are really easy to get one handed, the shackles arent, they sit loose.
  12. Hey there :)

I was wondering, could you do a couple of splices for me?

a splice at either end of a 20m rope, and one on a 10m line? Both ropes will be new. Would you want anything for them?

After a tip also, are ocean poly and armor prus both double braid splices? if so how difficult do you rate them?

    Cheers!

    Rob

  13. i stumbled across that while ago. he should have tested it with his todger!
  14. isnt it like daisy chaining a crab, which you arent meant to do? surely something like a 8mm oval maillon in the middle of the pulley instead of the crab would be easier overall?
  15. The tree climbers knotbook is an essential one for the library. Has all the knots in it and pros and cons!
  16. I'd be interested in this also. Plus does anybody use the stein skywalker pulley? That's got 2 holes instead of the 3 of the HC. the pinto has one? Do you have a pic of the setup darren?
  17. if you can get the model number, or just google trewhella winch and see if you can find an image that matches yours then find info on that.
  18. I've bought some shackles to try and also a couple of delta maillon rapides to see if that's any different. May aswell give it a go!
  19. My bike runs on human fuel. It needs refuelling a lot though!
  20. will it not go on youtube? then you can just link it.
  21. hey rob

where abouts are you based in lancashire? if your 10 mins from parbold it could be a handy job that ive been to look at, its a 150m ish line of leylandii with 1 tree per metre. all about 30ft high, they all want taking down to 10ft and the customer wants all the sticks so we only have to take small brash away. i was thinking two climbers because its a cut and chuck on the floor job while another guy sneds up and possibly another guy chipping his brash. Its a hell of a job, ill post a couple pictures on here in a couple days when its daylight.

might be an idea if you want a few days work, i thought it could take 4-5 days!

  22. was that by any chance in parbold? seeing as you are basid in wigan, it seems like we may have both been to the same place!
  23. It was for a friend so it's one of those type of jobs. "I know a guy who can do it" Some of the plum branches were very dead. As I was putting the back cut in and it was being pulled it just snapped off. No hinge or holding wood left. Snapped clean across the grain!
  24. the quad i had was a kawasaki klf300C and only had brake lights which then doubled up as side lights. register it as an agricultural vehicle!
  25. i make bigger waves when i jump in the bath
