  1. Some cup fungi growing at the base of a sycamore. These were taken on an iPhone 4 for whoever is interested
  2. A good rope to start with would be a 16 strand. Very simple ropes. Work well with a blakes hitch. And will accept other hitches. I use a Knut on mine and it works well
  3. The can influenced the damage! haha. It just died one day so we just towed it round the field for a bit! It was given a good mashing with a 3 ton digger as a send off so I was happy! It was given to me anyway and we had a good 4-5 months over the summer out of it.
  4. Learnt a lot of my car control in this beastie! 1.8 diesel so used red and literally battered it round the fields Oh yeah then we shot it!
  5. Christmas present. Take your road car to an airfield and use it like a race track! Cracking day it was! This is what it used to look like before it met a gatepost and I had to take off some stripes!
  6. both those prices are plus VAT! i would love one, but i dont even have a vehicle to drop in it to get it near its breaking strain!
  7. I've got a c1 myself mate. Good for city driving. You can get a lot of kit in them though! I've got a hilux. Insurance is through my dads company as it's essentially his vehicle but I've got use of it. I tried to insure it myself but no chance!
  8. Saw this over on honeybros Arborist Equipment - Tree Surgeon Supplies - Climbing Accessories
  9. You could make a noise. May not be English. But it may be loud enough! I have a whistle in my tool box. Keep a first aid with a very sharp rescue knife on my harness and 10 man first aid kit in the truck behind the seat. Along with a fire extinguisher plenty of paper towels and a spare hi viz vest. And a few choccy wrappers! I bought a cheap whistle from somewhere. Sends the dogs mad and is nice and audible!
  10. Hey whats wrong with red boots hehe I was choosing between the steins and meindls. I tried the steins on and couldn't get on with that hard insole. Left my foot aching after just trying them. I think there was about 30£ difference in price but I can't remember exactly.
  11. On now from 10pm to 11pm. Very funny stuff! Channel 4!
  12. Its a nordman fir, not a spruce Abies nordmanniana We sell thousands each year! We do have a couple in our garden which are a lot bigger than this and see these fungi 10ft away! So i would agree they are mycorrizal, as none of the other trees in the immediate area are showing any negative signs.
  13. Dean you big wuss I catch the ones that will fit into a glass. The really fast ones I jump over as they scurry towards me! I was poking one with the arm on my glasses once and it was getting all aggressive and biting them! Now the other half wants loads of conkers. Luckily we've got 4 conker bearing chessies that have given us quite a crop this year!
  14. could the first ones, be of the Mycena genus? Edit: the first ones, from what i can find online, could they be Mycena haematopus? the bleeding fairy helmet? i could be way out mind. this is only a suggestion from my limited knowledge!
  15. do the cuts in 4 stages, work position, visualise the cut, hold the saw up and offer it up to where you want to cut, then cut!
  16. Yes Apbell:
  17. That's not the best place to store a chainsaw dude! Haha
  18. Just to put something shiny in
  19. Ahh I was right on the ganoderma at least. Get a bit confused with australe and adspersum/applanatum. My little canon takes macro shots so I'll get a better shot of the red blighters for you. I'll have myself a little fung hunt! I believe your rubbing off on me a bit Tony!
  20. Couple of finds up at myerscoughs crow wood. I'm suggesting G. adspersum/applanatum and phelinus iginarus (sp?) With a few little shrooms on it too. These were all on beech logs Not sure on the little orange shroom. But it was near an oak and a sycamore.
  21. Hadleigh I'm getting lumps in my double braid. Not yet had a chance to redo a 16 strand. I'll be trying some blaze now though! I think I'm just not tapering enough. I'm taking out enough strands following the Samson instructions. What splice type is armour pruss? I've got a length to play with! Got to let my hands recover first though!
  22. bender: what type of splice did you do on the blaze?
  23. Cheers rich. I've conveniently got two loops inside my container which I've been using as a point with a sling through so I can clip onto it. Worked well. Just need to have another go and find something to yank it with! Will be having another go at 16 strand soon!
  24. I'd like to have a go at blaze. Got it lying here and wouldn't mind a shot at it. I had a go again today. Managed to get a poison ivy splice almost finessed. Struggling to finish the bury as my hands were blistered at that point! Re spliced a double esterlon that I did dodgy last time. Need to learn how to whip them now. Anybody got any tips for the poison ivy? I'm also thinking of having a go at Portland braid. Is that just a double braid splice?
