  1. Here's it's neighbour. But look at the back left of the photo. Another nice oak. You can park close enough to touch them out your car window. I'll try and drag myself down there for a better pic
  2. Yeah what he said ^^ Google that. It gives you catchdale moss lane. Go a little bit east following the a580 and you will see houghtons lane. You will see a little woodland there. Two odd shapes of green next to each other. That's where we will be. From that postcode it's an hour to eds house in Huddersfield. Not a difficult drive at all. The oak in that pic is probably 70cm dbh. One of the taller trees there and best looking to climb
  3. Here's a taster. One of the bigger oaks. Only pic I've got!
  4. Yeah I'll check it's ok to get a fire going. Should be ok though. As there have been small ones there before. I thought it was the 12th as I have an assignment in for the 11th which I keep thinking is Friday but it's the Thursday. Arriving here anytime after 10.30 will be fine. There's a shop that is fairly close. Only other place is back at the house. I'll grab some bacon and sausages and buns for the day. Coming from the m6 you pass a mini tesco and I'm less than a mile from that so there can be a good place to stop for sustenance. I'll be taking a strimmer and a couple saws down if any bits need clearing but it's mainly bramble now. Most other stuff has died back. Anyting else we need?
  5. Nice one Ed. You can be our test dummy again Location is st helens. 10 minutes from jct 23 on the m6. Just off the a580 east lancs road.
  6. Me and robarb are having a bit of a climb down at the woods on our land. There's a couple of good sized oaks. As well as a few other trees, few sycamores, ash, alder, willow. If you have a 4x4 you can park next to the trees. Otherwise you can just park at the yard and bung stuff in my pickup to take it down. Thinking of setting a zipline up too if there's the interest. Date is Saturday 12th. Next week. Short notice but thought I'd see if anybody fancied it?
  7. I ran a 36" on Ukminchs 650. Slightly less power than a 660 but I thought it ran fine. Ringing up some old dry beech. Worked well for a couple days
  8. Ed make a box to sit on your bonnet that's watertight at the top and sides. Then make holes in your bonnet and the bottom of the box. Dry and warm!
  9. here we go
  10. This is just some photos of the old beech on campus. No work is being done on it. Although it would make a cracker of a stunt fell!
  11. lemme get my 260 with 15" bar out, ill have it down by about next bonfire night!
  12. they obviously forbid people climbing it now. Although one of my fellow students did at night. id love to have a jump around that crown, could probably get some good swings in!
  13. heres some of ours too!
  14. Well i had about 10 minutes to waste before a lecture, so i went and photod this old fella. Dropped a branch in summer 09, I had heard of it having merip too, which i confirmed for myself, found what appears to be ganoderma from what i could see, was very awkward to get a photograph of it, and some Porcelain Mushroom too, on the major lower lateral, i took a photo of the underneath, is that fibre buckling? seems to be rippled, and also on some other limbs. Dont think theres much life left in this old guy. Although these trees do surprise us! Apologies for bad shots, thought they turned out ok but viewing on the PC i didnt do too well!
  15. Sorry yeah. I keep seeing your avatar and it reminds of stevie Blair posing in his helmet so I keep thinking it's him. Ah well. Easy mistake!
  16. No I'm not. I drive to site. I dont drive to earn money. Driving is just part of the work that makes me money!
  17. it is shocking at the quality of driving with some people, not to beat down a stereotype, but i find executives in their german 2 Ltr saloons seem to care more about themselves and keeping their speed over 85 on the motorway, than being a bit polite and letting you out into the lane they are in. If you look at people who drive for a living, the standard is truly shocking, ive nearly been sideswiped by a wagon on the motorway because he decided he wanted to stay on the motorway as he was going up the slip road and nearly caused a pile up. Taxi drivers, when they have no passengers, can be ABISMAL. From driving tractors the past couple of years now, mainly fairly long journeys, been up to lancaster, to manchester a few times and down to crewe. People do completely daft overtaking and it seems to bring out the worst in people. i was driving on a B road and there was nowhere suitable to stop for a good 25 minutes, when i did finally find a layby, out of about 40 cars, i think 2 or 3 waved thanks, the rest just seemed irate and one wagon driver clapped sarcastically at me. but what can we do? theres not enough traffic police to catch the real numpties until they are caught out and the good people get caught up in it!
  18. steve, why the hammer? lorry youve done well with two minutes
  19. When you can't find everything you brought to site!
  20. Buy cheap and you buy twice springs to mind. I can see the industry being 'cleaned' in a way. The people who can't keep their heads up will go and the stronger and better one man bands and firms will continue. Leaving more work available for the smaller amount of firms still going. I've just set up. So I'm not getting much in. I see all these guys with big tree jobs most days and I have had one in a few months!
  21. i find they are very grippy compared to my blue ridge. much comfier too, im a 10 in most shoes, i bought a 9 so they are better on my feet as im a bit in the middle on some pairs. wearing thick socks by feet dont have the room to move and rub, not had a bad day in them yet.
  22. Just do that. Much cheaper! Those do look like a good idea. Even for unloading kit at the end of the day out of a pickup.
  23. He must have struggled to do that as his balls must have weighed a ton! I wonder how many trips it took him to get it all to the tip in his fiesta?
  24. Very pretty. I may purchase one if they come out at an affordable price!
  25. Oh dear. I have indeed! Aren't we going to look special haha
