  1. Love my 540
  2. Mint! Very well done. Something I have yet to do in my 4/5 years climbing is crane work. I'm very jealous
  3. Boom! That's what I do myself. Unless the trunks a big gnarly thing. Then pantin comes out for a short while. Until I can use spikes and lanyard again, much, much faster if your sound on spikes
  4. Go for it. If your in good health and physically fit, your never to old. I'm 27 and been climbing for 4/5 years. But who's to say you won't do anything better me?
  5. Flip me! When I was working with a company up in Cheltenham about 2 years ago. He was getting £13 a tonne! As long as your chipper blades are sharp and it's producing good chip. Surely it up to the biomass companies to dry it out? Considering there the ones who get a bigger slice of the pie.
  6. That looks smart!! I just neatly put everything into the back of the truck and see what mess come out after
  7. I respect that. That's how it was back then. My boss has been in the game for 20-30 years and he hardly uses a second point. I accept that people are gonna stick to what they know, I know I do. I also accept that when people are a in a safe work position cutting well away from their main line, they may not feel the need to. We've all done it from time to time. It's when people are anchored in the top of a stem. Zip back down to work from bottom up, on spikes but choose not use a lanyard/flipline while cutting near their main line. That's when I have to scratch my head and think why?!
  8. Don't particularly want to over it again. As those above my position and part of investigation choose to ignore the facts and advice from there internal advisors and made some complete crap up. Disregarding completely what I saw. From the point he was in the tree to the point he was on floor.
  9. Simply because I've seen a colleague fall from height and break there back luckily, he's alive. But can he climb or physical work? No, no he can't
  10. Tried my buddy's old style sequoia and hated it. Much prefer my TM though that'll need replacing soon Like a few have said try a few on, also see if they'll let you hang in on. I found butterflies comfy until I started climbing. My voice shot up a few notes
  11. Pretty much as the title says. I'm not really one to judge other peoples way of climbing. As let's face it there's always a better climber out there. But seriously what is it with all these videos on YouTube where you see/hear young men/women not using a second point of attachment (I.e lanyard) when operating the saw. It's not hard and doesn't take up time to lanyard in before you make cut(s). These videos ain't even from MR and mrs Joe blogs either, there from what looks to be professionals with all the kit. Before I hear it all I fully we'll know there's some situations where it's gonna be no point/use using it. Like out on a long skinny limb with nothing around. Even though you could argue you should use that said limb. I'm on about piss easy situations where you should and if a situation were to happen you lanyard would stop you from crashing down to the ground.
  12. These look great and look so effortless to set up. Not that tieing cow hitchs is rocketing science. Where could I find Some more info about them? Cheers
  13. How long would the contract be for?
  14. Started SE. Currently on the books but starting to climb for other people/own jobs again on weekends as I missed the responsibility. It's a case of swings and roundabouts I'm afraid! Were do you see yourself in years to come? That's the question I asked myself. The answers different for everybody.
  15. Hi all. I'm looking for work on the 27th,28th and 29th of this month. Currently have 30/31/38/39 and clean full driving licence. Self-employed, own all PPE and climbing kit. Only a years full-time experience, but working 5/6 days for the whole year as a two/three man team sharing the duties from striaght up and down pole climbs to rigging complete trees down. Happy to ground, but also eger to climb and get more air time. If you can help with these dates, please contact me on [email protected]. (i dont come on here often anymore:blushing:) Thanks for your help Mike
  16. I try not to! and going with the 'cut and hold' thread. The first day i climbed for a guy i regularly work for. He wanted to get me used to it and i wanted to impress So i tried it and..... clipped my hand with the saw luckily the saw was running down and just took my skin off. But it could of been a whole lot worse. So obviously i've learnt my lesson and only do things i feel comfortable. I'd rather finish the job a little later clearing up than making sure every piece lands in the drop zone. Now i only use it one handed if im fully stretched out and its a straight drop. If i need to cut and hold, i'll crack out the silky. Afterall, thats what there for and its safer!!
  17. Friction cords do my head in lol which Diameters to use with which rope/ friction knot etc. I'm just sticking with Marlows 9mm cord for my 11mm blaze, any 10mm for my 13mm strop and Beeline 8mm for rescue (mainly because i hate using it lol).
  18. I wouldn't go for the Hi-Flex trousers. Not because there 'rubbish', 'fall apart', etc. But because there designed for climbers. Yes of course you can obviously use them on the ground cos i do, but i also climb. The reason i say not to go for them is because of the protection. They have 5 layers. 4 layers less than the typical 9 layers which you find in your everyday class1 trousers. I'd have a look at the new Husqrvarna T20 trousers. The helmet and gloves - Husqrvarnas are perfect I'd seriously consider getting boots rather than wellies though. Your feet will thank you and most pairs are waterproof anyway. I know Husqrvarna do complete PPE kits. Have a look at them. That save you some money and you'll have better kit than the unbranded, cheap stuff
  19. I tried one on a few months back when i went shopping for a new lid with another climber for him and i have to say we were impreesed..... at first!!! I have had a few problems with my petzl properly fitting when chip strap is off and not in use, etc. So i was very impressed when the Stein lid sat and stayed in place straight away. But my biggest problem with it is. A helmet is meant to help soften impact and help prevent serious injury. So when Chris slapped me on the head and i felt the whole impact, which bloody hurt! I was not impressed, at all!! I even brought my petzl into the shop to compare and there was no pain. Nothing on this world will make me use this lid! Yes it fits comfortably, but bloody hell does it hurt with small impacts.
  20. Suck it up and make it look like it ain't bothering you...... The ladies passing by love it lol Nah just layer up. Helly hansen base layers are pretty good. Also sealskinz gloves work wonders. Keep your hands warm and are also waterproof. So hands wont end up getting wet when touching the snow.
  21. Just the way i like it
  22. I used to use the hitchclimber with VT and a VT with micro pulley on my soft strop. But now i just use prussik loops with a micro pulley for one hand stuff. However saying that if i had/ when i have the money. I'll be moving onto mechanicals i.e. the spiderjack3 and positioner3. Cant be doing with friction hitches getting covered in poop and tightening up. Does my head in having to stop to sort it out.
